I signed up for a 14 day free trial to give Everquest II a shot. I figured I could run the game on High easily, however I'm getting between 7-15 FPS. Is this normal?
Specs:
Nvidia GeForce GTS 250
AMD Phenom 9600 Quad Core
3 GB RAM
Windows 7 64 bit.

It can be. This game has memory leaks.
As well, if your graphics card isn't good enough, or you don't have enough ram, to handle the game, it will drag your connection down massively.
This game has always been a hog. Turn your graphics down to balanced and see what happens.
Personally I have a Geforce 260 and a Phenom 940 and I usually have around 35-45 fps. It only goes down further when I've been playing a long time and been passing between alot of zones.
The AMD Phenem 9600 at 2.3ghz is too slow to run eq2 on high settings.
there are lots of tips on how to manage your settings, but here is a real quick'n'dirty way to make game VERY playable and still look good.
go to options > performaance .. turn the game down to lowest possible setting.
go to Texture Resolution.. turn the top two settings to "maximum"
go to Model Detail...set high detail characters to max (10), other 3 slides should be about one third of the way from left to right.
That's it. game should run great and look great. There is other flashy stuff of course.. like particle effects, you can play with those if you want the game to look like a rainbow. Shadows totally kill performance in eq2, i wouldnt turn them on.
