This isnt Darkfall, i play alot solo without any problems.

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.

Exactly. This game is viable solo or clanned up. In Meduli, i have a few crafting buddies and we watch each other's back when we go out to mine or better yet, when we are using the grinder. A thief or grey flagged player thinks twice when he sees 3 players all pull out their swords and stare straight at him.

A clan isn't "necessary" to play. That statement was pretty ridiculous.

Just dont expect an MMOG in release quality and you wont be dissapointed. Game can currently be best described as en explorable 3D engine with alot of bugs and little content.

First troll post in this topic at last. I'm amazed that it took this long :O

Looks like I'll have to convince myself whetther the game is in a poor shape or not

Still patching after I took some time off playing Aion on and off. Full loot is going to bother me, just like Darkfall did. But I'll just have to wait and see.

Wait...Theif? Are you telling me that there is a functioning stealing system in Mortal similar to the old school UO's thieving system?

Can you give me some more details?

  • Agricola1Agricola1 Member UncommonPosts: 4,977

I never played UO but in MO someone will stand close to me and then I'll see a message saying XXXXXX is snooping in your pockets. If I se a message saying they've taken anything then I have to hit them first before they go grey then I can call the guard and he'll finish them off for me and loot my stuff back.

Seems after a theft they go grey but it's hidden and you have to hit them once before they become grey properly. There are alot of thieves in Mortal Online.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"

Very similar. First they have to snoop to look in your back pack (detectable, but doesn't flag them as criminal).  Then they have to make the attempt to steal.  When they make the attempt to steal they become flagged as a criminal.  At that point you can call the guards on them or attack them yourself.  Per Agricola's statement, I think it depends on the margin of success on stealing.  If the thier barely succeeds they are flagged criminal (global allowed) meaning anyone can attack them and the guards can be called on them.  If they succeed with a good margin they become hidden criminal (local allowed) meaning they can be attacked by their victim and the guards can be called on them.

All of that is based off of the flagging documentation. Practically speaking, it may not be working quite like that in game currently.

What's with the silly patcher? Why so many small packages?

Yeah.  It's a bit annoying.  You'll have to click start to install each and finish when they are done.  They're going to have a complete download for the release client.

Basically, you're downloading all of the hotfixes and patches done after the client version you initially downloaded.  It does serve point though.  It tests the patcher and installer.

I'm on the last one now. MO, here I come!

  • UhwopUhwop Member UncommonPosts: 1,791

Be sure to press H after you log in.  You can get all the pertinent information on how to play that way, if you haven't read or watched anything on MO's controls before hand.

And don't be afraid to talk to people!  The game relies heavily on player interaction.

There's only local chat at the moment.  Treat communicating like you would in real life, if you had no phones or ability to communicate over long distance.

Because thats how it is staying. Apart from guild chat. But you need to own a house and guild stone before you can invite people.

Treat in the game like you have just woke up from a heavey drinking session, and you cant remember a thing. And all of your possesions have been stolen :D Its time to start a fresh!

    P.S

This may not be the best weekend to try it out. The desync issues are pretty bad and the devs are off for the weekend. There is a GM however trying to keep the server going. Monday will get it sorted out.

    Very true.

They are considering, possibly, adding a way to form a clan without having to build a house and add a clan stone.

/yell was in for a bit, but was removed for some reason.

Hope they put it back in soon.  Game would benefit from it immensely.  Sure would be a lot easier when a guy goes on a rampage at a grinder!

Bronecar, you're very welcome.  Hope you enjoy the game.

Another heads up, pigs have evolved super speed, and teleporting abilities.  :)

It's supposed to be corrected on mondy.

Managed to get into the game. Somehow I no longer run. I can sprint, but otherwise it's just walking

  • UhwopUhwop Member UncommonPosts: 1,791

Movement speed is based on your dexterity.  The higher it is the faster you run, and the more stamina you'll have to sprint longer.  So you'll start out rather slow, and over time gradually get faster.

You can raise your dex by fighting.  It used to raise through gathering, don't know if it still does.  I haven't mined or lumbered in awhile.

    What background did you pick?

What's trolling about that post? It's dead on accurate. Don't expect a working game. Last time I logged in it took me 4 minutes of waiting for my character to take out his sword, that was after wrestling with their third attempt at making a working patcher (a patcher that brought my Crysis computer to its knees and I couldn't do ANYTHING else while patching), and trying to get in game without it crashing.

Better tip, don't expect beta quality, and you're good to go.

That was quite some time ago.  Not really sure what having a powerful system has to do with the patcher either.  You can run the patcher on a 10 year old computer as long as it's running XP or higher.

And it's trolling because it was excessively negative, nor did it have anything to do with the OP.  He was asking for tips on playing, not someones opinion on it's state.

That was actually not quite some time ago, they seemed to come out with a new patcher every couple days, each one worse than the last.

Ya ur'll run outta stam really quik as a noob purchase and read the agility book. Get the sprinting, jumping, and Endurance book as fast as u can. You dont have to wait until ur done reading them just read them stop n repeat, it'll unlock the skill and everything will go up as u go and do ur thing. Dex will go up quickly too if u have all these as they use dex as the primary. Eventually ur'll find urself gettin faster 100 primary skill points in agility is definatly worth it.

    * if skills r missin when u log in just relog just another annoying bug.
