Any point dusting of the mouse and gamepad ?

I've been playing mmo's for over 10years and have had alot of fun doing it. I have been looking over the last few months for a new game to play but have not bothered to install/buy a single one as they all looked kinda shite.

I was hoping somebody could recommend one, prehaps a indie or f2p title.

I'm a loner and still miss logging my necro in eq1 and spend hours soloing the sarnark castle learning how to break the camp, learning  spawn timers, playing around with cool mechanics like indirect root, fd, instant invis etc etc.

I'm not trying to make this I love EQ post just giving a little background info of what I like to do as a player.

Are there any games out there that still have some type of skill left for the solo player, the explorer,  the powerful necro that nobody wants in thier group ?

All the games I have been looking seem to be rinse, repeat.

P.S I am looking for a game not a topic on they dont make games like they used to like you seen in a 100 threads on the boards

Kind Regards,

Steve

A lot of the games out are solo centric if you ask me.  Pick up any and make a character and go out and explore.  Pretty much all of them can go out and kill without much help from others.  Go grab some free trials floating around the net and have at it.  It`s the only way you`ll really know.

I don`t really play my games solo all that much so I can`t be of much help...

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Fallen Earth, Darkfall or Eve. As far as free to play titles I think personaly D&D online is the best out there. Perfect World make some high quality F2P games but I have heard they get prity cash shop dependent at mid to later lvl's.  Also its worth noting that Aoc and War have endless trials availlable, so it may be worth having a look at them. You have nothing to loose. Hope that helped a bit. Good luck. :)

You will get 10 posts suggesting Darkfall, although it has nothing to do with the type of game you say you like.

Age of Conan might be worth a try, since you like to solo and explore, and you can pretty well in that game.

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

Well, so far I'm really liking Fallen Earth. It's indie, has plenty of exploration, and is somewhat solo friendly if you have the mind to do so. Great crafting system as well. No necromancers, though. Mutants, sure. Necros, no. There is a free ten day trial.

If you've yet to try Guild Wars, you may like it. It has the necromancer class, a mostly instanced world, and its sequel is coming out... sometime. Seems to have a large world that, on the map, is shrouded in darkness until you explore it. Free to play once you buy the game itself.

For a time, I enjoyed playing the f2p Perfect World and Atlantica Online, although those may not be to your liking.

Not sure how old you are, myself im pushing 40.  I grew up on the D&D gold box games and text based RPGs such as Zork which were turn based.

I recently checked out Atlantica Online, and I'll admit im extremely skeptic about non-sub games and never gave them much thought until recently.  Atlantica is very cool, and its turn based.  You pretty much control your own party, so its extremely solo-friendly

Check into it, you might like it.  Aside from that, another very casual and solo friendly game is Lord of the Rings Online.  Probably the best story driven PvE MMO on the market with awesome graphics.

haha a BST in FFXI takes a ton more skill and knowledge than your necro in EQ.FFXI is a game designed to be group played so even match mobs are still VERY tough to beat and many classes simply cannot do it.FFXI also has the sub class system witch opens up several possibilities for game play.Unlike Eq/Wow FFXI's food matters a lot ,it is designed for  in combat not out of combat. You will NEVER feel safe/easy mode soloing in FFXi no matter what class you are playing and unless you have flee, you are unlikely to outrun any certain death scenario, you need to maintain focus/smarts at all times.

Unlike Eq/Wow where players constantly crave the best gear or best spells to make their player better instead of skill making their player better,FFXI is much more about player knowledge/skill.Sure gear matters for charms in FFXI,but nothing is a sure thing, you need to be ready to handle all situations. The biggest drawback for FFXI however is the level cap quests, pretty darn hard if not impossible to solo them,so you would need help in that area.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
