Entropia Universe www.entropiauniverse.com is easily the most challenging Free To Play game on the market, and is more challenging in many ways than most pay to play games.

This is due to the real cash economy within Entropia Universe.  Everything ingame has a value that can be easily determined in USD.  Players can contribute money to the game at any time, or withdraw once their balances exceed 100 USD.   The game is very sandbox oriented, with some PvP, lots of PvE, extensive crafting, and opportunities for both group and solo play.

but with a real cash economy wouldn't it be just one huge cash shop when i end up having to spend large amounts of money to get anywhere in the game?

i'm not familier  with how the system work in that game

There is no cash shop per se ingame.

There are ways to play for free, and if youre both smart and/or lucky you can continue doing so.  Sweating is the most obvious absolutely free way to start to raise capital.  Every 1000 bottles of sweat can net you 5 Planet Entropia Dollars, or 50 cents USD.  Its designed to take a while, to tempt you into depositing.

You can also walk the globe and collect fruit, stones, and dung which are used as fertilizer and crating components.  These have world value on the open market as well, and can net a decent sum of cash if you are patient enough to do it.  Again, absolutely free.

Once you raise capital you can take the job of a trader, and eke out small bits of profit via buying items at low prices and then selling larger quantities to crafters for a markup.  Crafters do appreciate saving time on a resource hunt.

Or... you can gamble a bit and try to mine or hunt, hoping to strike a nice pull.  When you do its rewarding.  Between times getting that nice score it can really hurt sometimes.

Personally I suggest to try out Guild Wars. It's F2P you only need to buy the games at first. And you can get the trial here : http://www.guildwars.com/support/gwtrial.php . Couple reasons why I really like this game is the fact that it really needs skills to be able to move forward in the game and if you buy the Nightfall expansion, you can make your own party group (simular like DragonAge) and control which one does what, you don't need to wait for someone to quest and the story in guild wars is awesome! It's a bit confusing at first but invest time in this game and it's really worthy, I'm pretty sure you won't regret it.

    Check it out.
