I must be one of few people who have no issues with Steam...that being said I started the 6 gig download about 8 minutes ago and I'm at 45%.
Apparently I am one of those rare people as well.
I've never had a problem with Steam, ever, and I have used it for years. Took around the same amount of time for me to download as well, roughly 20-25 minutes to complete from start to finish.
It's also not about the download speed. X-fire, steam, SoE station, all these are crappy software, that you have to manually turn off at startup/services just to not have your computer slowed down at every restart. Some people like to have a clean registry with clean assortment of programs that have an actual use. Steam has no use, it's just a big ADV.

I find Steam to be very convenient myself, and my system is pristinely maintained with no slowdown whatsoever.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.
Every additional and useless software like steam, xfire, soe station, slows down your computer no matter what. It might be 0.1%, it might be 2%. It slows down your OS restart and startup, it slows down your everyday computer-use. The more programs like this, the more effect you'll notice. Steam alone might not mean much, but if every company out there decides to make you install first some silly software in order to play a certain game, your computer will become infested with plethora of useless programs.
Dont understand why people dont like Steam! I think its very convenient, I downloaded GA trial and it took me a couple of hours.
And if you dont have Steam does it mean you have never played HL2???
I did play Half Life 1 when it was released, and I don't remember any sort of Steam software at that time. I didn't like HL1, hence I did not even try HL2.

Nobody was debating you on this.
In fact I attempted to end our back and forth with my final remarks during my previous post. Why you feel the need to point out things that are common sense in order to perpetuate the discussion is beyond me, you are not informing me of anything I am not already aware of.

What we have here is a difference in opinion, plain and simple. I don't consider Steam to be a silly piece of software at all, and I've never been a big fan of "What If's" regarding what a certain company may or may not do in the future.

All the power to you though.
You were not aware of that slowdown just 5 minutes ago when you said:
"I find Steam to be very convenient myself, and my system is pristinely maintained with no slowdown whatsoever."
I guess there was something during those 5 minutes that turned "no slowdown whatsoever" into a common sense.
Here, this is typical. Useless software that basically does nothing, yet it starts up at your computer startup for no reason really, without even asking you during the installation. You have to manually turn it off.
Here, a few minutes after, I'm trying to uninstall it. It asked me if I want to close Steam application before uninstalling. I chosed yes - close it automatically, after which came this. So I gotta uninstall it through CCleaner.
After this, Steam and Global Agenda disappeared from the list in add/remove programs.
But still - when I go into the Steam folder in C:/programfiles it shows it takes up nearly 8 GB
A) installed Steam
Installed Global Agenda
C) Uninstall Steam - got an error
D) Steam and GA disappeared from add/remove list of programs
E) Steam remained with GA in the folder taking up8GB - with no chance to uninstall it whatsoever. I have to remove it manually from the hard disc and then run registry cleaner.
I do not like this new editor one bit, other than the improved look of the interface it seems to be creating a hell of alot more hassle than it is worth.
I really wish they would just revert back to the original editor, it might not have looked as pretty, but at least it served the intended purpose. This new version is unbelieveably frustrating at times.

REALITY CHECK
Even if you buy the game, is Steam actually the only way how to download/install and set up Global Agenda to play?

I thought to give this game a try, but when I had my key, I saw I MUST activate a steam account
No go for me

If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

Ty Recon, downloading the trial now
Uhh... what?
Nope, no HL2 for me, though I did like HL1
About other crappy software. I use xfire for screenshots and in-game web app (switching crashes most games), so I do somewhat need this.
Any other extra app is just not installed to keep my system at speed...
Steams amazing, cant lose the disks or the game.... ever (unless i get badly hacked)
Also, always has free demos and stuff and a great friend chat system
+if i go out of town or something and have internet access i can always download a game on my laptop of a buddies comp and play something
Uhh... what?

I am not a big fan of steam either. Does it uninstall cleanly? I might give GA a go if it does.

This is a fine piece of software I have to say.

I use revo uninstaller ....the freeware version. Seems pretty good.
The promotional code has expired so i guess no free trial for me
The promotion code is not valid or has expired. Please verify that you have entered the correct value.
Is the error it gives me when I try to sign up.. Is there any way to get past this? Or, Can anyone else lend me a key?
The amount of keys they hand out per day is a limited number.
Just sit tight and keep checking back, they will have a new batch up every day until April 1st as far as I know.
I use Steam all the time and never have an issue with it. If some can't load Steam then maybe it is time for a pc upgrade.
It's not that there is an issue with Steam its just that it sits there consuming disc space, ram, and cpu cycles. I just like to run 'lean'.
I can't seem to quote anyone properly now either.
