Every delay they make is a good decision as the game is nowhere near ready. They need all the additional development time they can get.
Do you honestly think one more month will make a huge difference? People have been saying that same line for MONTHS already. The changes simply aren't visible.
..anyhow, yes I was wrong to actually believe SV when they confirmed 2 weeks ago that they were releasing in March. My bad, I shall be sure not to believe them in the future and shall continue to greet all their statements with skepticism.
Hope and potential will keep this game alive for a short time, maybe people will start realizing the truth soon?
..anyhow, yes I was wrong to actually believe SV when they confirmed 2 weeks ago that they were releasing in March. My bad, I shall be sure not to believe them in the future and shall continue to greet all their statements with skepticism.
Which is why it gives me no joy to bring it up. The announcement was a projection, not a promise. Projections have to change as the facts on the ground change.

No.. it wasn't a projection. It was a statement:
We are very happy to announce that Mortal Online will launch in March 2010.
That was their statement 2 weeks or so ago. As I said.. I have learned to greet all their STATEMENTS with skepticism.

Anyone notice that the same people bashing the "March" release are the same ones bashing the newest delay?
i corrected it for you.
so what if they delay the game, it proves they are not out to get money, they can delay as much as they want.
the mortal online developers are trying to do something for the first time with a mmorpg.
of course they are going to bump into ploblems, but they will be the first ones on the market to achieve and be knowledged for their success having atlas and unreal engine 3.5 in a mmo.
Anyone notice that the same people defending the "March" release are the same ones applauding the newest delay?
I'm 100% for the delay, but just shows the minda set of some. ie SV can do no wrong.
You apparently have not been reading the same forums I have. Go to post #49 in this thread if you want to link back to the originals From 3/9/10

My response: When a release date is stated in vague terms (Q1 2010) it's just an estimate. As a project gets closer to completion (a couple weeks from finished), developers usually state a more specific date. They haven't announced a more specific date, so they are probably more than a couple weeks out from release. They are not lying, the estimated release is out of date and they haven't got a more specific estimate yet.
If you think it's buggy and unfinished, why do you insist that it is about to be released?
My statements were based on the supposition that if the developers felt the game needed more work they would postpone the release. Apparently the devs feel that they can iron out the important issues over the next 2 1/2 weeks (or don't have the resources to stay in development any longer) We'll see how well or badly they misjudged that in a few weeks.

I'd like to point out (again) that my mistake was actually believing what they said. Yes.. when a company says it is releasing in Q1... I said.. they were going to release in Q1. When that company CONFIRMED in mid March that they were releasing in March... I said they were releasing in March.
You were more skeptical and did not believe them. That turned out to be the right thing to do. As I said, I shall greet all of their statements with the highest level of skepticism from now on. This includes their NEW announced date of April. I also did not believe that they would string people on until the release date and then postpone it again. I was wrong there as well. OK it was 2 days before the release window expired.. but let's be honest here, they knew they weren't launching a long time before that. Heck even the announcement say they started moving their game to the new network solution a week prior so the decision was made even before that. Just to be clear though, so you don;t feel a need to quote me for a 3rd or 4th time: I was wrong to believe them... I was wrong to believe them when they confirmed and officially announced that it would be out in March (even though they did so in mid-March) and I was wrong to believe that they would have pro-actively informed the community of a delay instead of waiting until the last minute. Now, I hope that is clear.. as is the fact that I WILL NOT believe any other statements they make which begins with their new April date.

Wasn't that release date an official statement? I remember reading about this date in a mmorpg.com announcement too. There was no reason to not believe that date, honestly, since they stated before that because of money issues, they couldn't delay any more.

Yes.. there was an official announcement a mere 2 weeks ago on their front page announcing the launch (apparently while simultaneously or quickly there after begining to move to the new server infrastructure) As I said above though, I was wrong to believe them even after this confirmation and I shall not be tricked again. I shall view all their statements (including this new April date) with the highest level of skepticism.

@ slapshot & reijan Yes "the end of March" was an official announcement and good business practice would be to announce that when certain. The de-synch issues are enough of an issue that they probably should have waited until that was really tackled before giving a specific date. My intent was not to prove that you (slapshot) were wrong, but to point out that in that dialogue I expressed some reluctance about the decision to release "(or don't have the resources to stay in development any longer)" I don't recall anyone defending the March release by saying it was completely fixed up.
Since you will probably hold them to a release date in April, let me just point out they haven't specifically said they will release in April. Henrick did write "We believed we had the solution before end of March but we now see that this is not possible at the moment therefore we have to postpone the release for another month.", but in the same post he also wrote "We will announce a final release date at a later time."
It would be good if they could push back that date even more than one month, maybe 3 or more (if they can).
People said that 3 months would be enough in December too.
Yeah. The real problem is that the staff is inexperienced. It will take a lot of time until they gain enough experience to do such a big MMO. They should have started with something easier and smaller first, maybe a RPG or single-player game, to get some experience and funds, then maybe a themepark and then they might have been able to make Mortal Online a lot better than it is now. Let's be honest, this game won't become all great even in three months, but I hope they can at least fix the most glaring issues in three months (desync, client, bugs...). But who knows? They have been trying to fix desync for some time now...
?Originally posted by Gabby-air I like how the OP bashes the game for not being ready and at the same time bashes them for delaying it to improve it, good stuff. I think the updated client and netowrk should clear out a lot of the bugs and give them a better foundation and also give them more time to polish the game up, nice move on their part.
I don't think anyone complains about the game being held back as it's obviously not ready for prime-time. I think most folks think it's a silly game that SV is playing with all the small bumps instead of taking significant steps. Instead of another 4 weeks.. realize the reality of the state of the game and send it back to closed beta to fix it up and make it into a real game.. then come back to us in 6 months and let us see what has been accomplished. Edited to add: This is what I mean. Here is their delay message from December 16th: Release In order to deliver you the best product we can, we are pushing back the release of Mortal Online for one month. This is not a decision we take lightly but we feel that it is necessary to do so in order to polish all the core features. All the core features will be implemented and the additional time will also ensure that we can continue in thoroughly testing all the game features and eradicate all those nasty bugs.
Just be honest and push it back a reasonable amount of time to actually "eradicate all those nasty bugs" instead of repeated small delays...
why does this even matter it doesnt to be honest. its kinda like some one QQ that they got 6 dimes instead of 2 quarters and a dime..
What if I got $1000 and you got a shit ton of pennies dumped on you. Pretty sure you'd be QQing then.
If he had a $1000 worth of pennies dumped on him he'd be dead and youtube would have itself another hilarious video.
All of the programming experience in the world won't fix thier issues. The issues are more fundamental than mere technical ability.
The management has not epxerience and this kills thier ability to plans and execute. This is what will kill the project in tthe end. Each and every problem will be tackled, but an inability to get problems off the table seem to the biggest hurdle facing this project. It isn't merely a problem with fixing some net code.
So they fix the net code? Then what? What gets uncovered whhen thhe netcode gets fixed?
Inexperienced developers make these huge mistakes. An experiecned developer knows how to plan a schedule so that cirical items like netcode and middle-ware are wrung out at an early stage. Not 1 month before product launch.

Sounds great on paper, but in the real world even the so called EXPERTS make tons of mistakes.Look at Blizzard, they utilize test servers for wow and still screw up EVERY single update. You would think since it al lgets tested prior hand that would be impossible would you not?SOE is worse yet, their game is stil lfull of bugs from 5 years ago.The ONLY developer i have seen that does not release screw ups other than future exploits being revealed is Square Enix, your no getting anymore efficiency from any of these other devs.

Yes, Blizzard makes mistakes. Bosses in brand new dungeons will often do odd things, despawn, or be easily exploitable. At launch the game had issues like every MMO; some classes were blatantly overpowered, some abilities didn't do the correct amount of damage in certain circumstances, and occasionally mages could blink into the ground. Goofiness like that.
However, the game was still chock-full of content, and all that content worked for the most part. Some quests were bugged but it didn't prevent the game from being played. Some abilities were bugged or exploitable, but the game was still fun and playable despite these issues.
Mortal Online is virtually unplayable for a huge number of people, whether it's due to lack of fun stuff to do, the brick-wall of a learning curve, crashes, lag, inability to even install the game, hackers, bugs or missing features.
The difference here was that while WoW was a smooth, enjoyable ride puncutated by a few irritating bugs, Mortal Online is a complete mess punctuated by a few moments of fun.
