World of Warcraft and EQ2

Anyone else out there that has played these betas?  Which one did you like better?  Why?  I'm not asking for any specific reason.  I'm just wondering what other people think so far.  image Ginny from Halas image

Couldn't vote Guild Wars, it had PvP but it felt too... Deathmatchy for me.

    Couldn't vote EQ2, because there isn't PvP

I guess I'll vote for WoW, it has PvP that doesn't really feel that deathmatchy.

    WoW

The beta has pretty much gone flawless except for the lag jump once Open Beta started (although that's fixed and the game is now smoother than ever).

WoW.. without a doubt WoW is the best game.

I played the EQ2 beta and it was nothing but bugs, crashes, lag, and frustration.

I would rate WoW a 10 and EQ2 a -1 trillion.. its that bad. Every game on the history of the planet is better than EQ2, and I'm not even exaggerating.

It's rpetty simple.. if you want to work, go with EQ2, if you want to play, go with WoW.

Anybody who says EQ2 is better is a SOE/EQ fanboi. Anybody who has actually taken the time to see which was better with an open mind would choose WoW in a heartbeat.

    Trust me.

Thats strange.. Your computer must really suck, cause I've been playing for 2 weeks or something now and I havent had an ounce of problem out of the servers.... hmm

As I said before, those problems only occurred a few days after Open Beta started and they've now been all fixed. Go see for yourself.image

And you think that by now EQ2 hasnt been fixed? I still doubt that even at its earliest stages EQ2 wasnt as laggy as WoW was. And if Blizzard doesnt get their act together, and they get close to the million subscribers that everyone seems to think theyre going to have, then expect to have the same fun again at launch.

I managed about 3 hours of EQ2 retail before I decided it was too dumbed down, the quests were annoying and it "amazing" graphics were bland( yes, very nice, a technical wonder but still bland). no bugs, no lag. EQ2 felt like it was so so close to amazing but missed by just that little bit and became irritating.

Only got to play WoW for about an hour at a friends house. 0 bugs, 0 lag. Combat was just as dumbed down however it felt nicer than EQ2. Graphics are amazing, the game looks great. I felt far more like I had some impact on my character and how he developed over time. Some of the quests were entertaining (not as in depth as EQ2 quests but more fun to do). Yes, all in one hour of play :)

I pre ordered Limited Edition of both games, I decided well in advance I would play the game that grabbed me and that was WoW. Will it have long term appeal? I don't care, its fun now just like CoH was for a few months. EQ2 will sit on my shelf and maybe in a few months I will dust it off and give it another try. I would rather have lots of fun in a game for 2 or 3 months than have a moderate amount of fun for years. MMORPGS are comming out fast enough these days thats it only a matter of time before I find that game that I can have lots of fun for years in.

I got into WoW at the beginning of the last stress test and have enjoyed it since.  Not truly excellent in any one aspect, but it has all the small things and is well put together all around.  No gripes at all, which is a first for me and MMORPGs.  You can get alot out of the game without putting alot of time into it.  My Favorite pick.  I highly recommend it to new and casual players, though hardcore and experienced players find it simplistic.

Played Guildwars during the World Preview Event.  VERY well done game, I was impressed.  After playing into it a bit it quickly lots it's RPG appeal though.  It quickly started to feel like an FPS (first person shooter).  'Deathmatch' is a good term for it.  The exact middle between an MMORPG and an MMOFPS.  Very nice game and with no monthly fee it's pretty much commitment free.  Not my cup of tea though.

I have just started playing EQ2.  It's alot of hit & miss so far.  Graphics are the big thing I guess, as some things are truly detailed and beautiful, though others are not and look out of place.  Same for animation.  Lots of races to choose from, but only one starting place before leaving for one of two starting cities.  Tons of real speech, but if I hear "You have fared the sea well, but can you help on the island?" or "All refugees need to resupply!  Get your supplies here!" I am going to kill something.  Also very time consuming to listen to everyone.  The interface I don't like, EVERYTHING is a 'window' that can be moved and customized, but can clutter things up.  It also seems overly complicated with menus for everything.  The game itself seems pretty good, there's lots to get into if you put your time into it, but I don't care for it so far just because of specific things.

A bit more than a favorite pick I know, but there it is.

OFFTOPIC- I have yet to play an MMORPG and NOT experience 5-10 minutes lags at some time or another (with the exception of EVE, GW and EQ2, which I only played maybe 3-4 hours each, but got crashes on all but EVE).  Once had nearly 1/2 hour of lag on one game, I was just surprised the server recovered and didn't just crash!  WoW has definately had it's fair share of lag and crashes - had noticable laggyness twice(~40 min total, only once did a single lag last over 10 sec), server crashes 3 times(~4hours downtime total), game crashes 5 times(haven't had problems since replacing bad hard drive(maybe coincidence), it's been making not good nioses for a long while).  All of this occured shortly after open beta signups started (which they closed sign-ups within a day or two with over 500,000 accounts, per Bliz website).  Not great, but not bad either for having been on 2 weeks and am probably close to 100 hours of lag/crash free playtime on a non-released game already serving 1/2 million.  Lag is going to happen, especially at launch of popular ones, with any online game.  It's really not a factor unless it's consistantly and constantly game crippling over a period of time, usually it's very short lived.

Yes, because forums are 100% true. Oh and all 500,000 people that got the Open beta also posted there, saying how bad it was.

Yeah right, try like 30 people that had problems and decided to spaz out instead of stop playing on their 14.4k modems.
