I rolled a character, new to the game. I came out on the other side with an axe and sword. I guess I have no gathering skills b/c my axe cant harvest anything from trees, so I assume I need to purchase a gathering skill. But to do that, I need to kill some boards for their bones and hides, then sell them.
So i killed a couple boars, got hides, sold one set and kept another set in my inventory in town. Walked away from the keyboard, came back and my inventory is empty. So thievery is essentially open pvp in towns?
Aside from that, the complete lack of any information about how to do this or that, like processing a hide to make a shield has me wondering about how steep the learning curve is in this game against a back-drop of loss at any moment.

You can gather stuff from trees and rocks from the beginning. Equip the starter axe. Check out the "help" section. From the start on, you should have the gathering skills neccassary to harvest trees and rocks.
They still haven't fixed the skill system, he may need to relog a few times for the skills to show correctly.
I win!!! LOL@U
Walking away from the keyboard is generally high risk in a game like MO, might be best to avoid doing that to prevent unnecessary pain.

That is a given in MO. At the moment, I'm stuck in a tree. Anyone have a solution for that? It's actually quite funny watching my character struggle, so I haven't relogged yet...
ok. i already logged out. I'll log back in in a bit. But I didnt have a 'gathering' skill icon in my skill list anywhere.

These links might help you get started a bit more easily. It's not yet complete, but at least it gives some basic points. The skills "should" be there, but there is a bug that makes them not show up sometimes. Just relog until you see them (you will have to relog a lot in MO, at least I have to). Also, your items (starter weapon and such) might sometimes not show up. Needless to say, sometimes, it's pretty frustrating. But well, there are fun parts...somewhere...
Talk to people! There are usually alot of decent folks around that would love to explain and help you out.
HAHAHA... Lets be serious, why not have him ask on the MO forums.

A pvp based game, full of PKers, that has mature people that will actually help you....? Really?
the community in mortal online is great.
you really do feel that good vs bad feeling.
i love how players will defend towns from reds.
starter towns are starter towns, lol, just go to a town where players do not start, and you be fine.
but usally if a player attacks another player near a starter town, they do not last long.
also greys do not last long.
reds, come every now and again, but usually the anti reds come aswell
come and be a part of mortal online.
fight the fight brothers.
the game is rubbish, pick something more entertaining
like what, Star Trek online? *rolls eyes*
but seriously, the quicker you understand that there are no safe zones in MO (guarded towns are SAFE-ER, not safe) the quicker you will start getting fun out of it
Dont go afk while loged into a game like MO , end of story , move on .
I'll take Boriel's comment a bit farther....Don't log into a game like MO, move on, there are actual playable games out there that are enjoyable.
