If you could describe your dream game what would it be like??
My dream game would be a mix of Empire Earth and B.C. for xbox (canceled btw) and it would be an MMO. You start out as early homo-sapiens, in a pack of 5, 2 males 3 female, which would be NPC's. And as time progresses the npc's could (in a g rated way) give birth. The setting would be jurassic, with dinosaurs, volcanoes, islands, and all that. The player could become anyone in his pack. And his skills would involve making food (would be ness. to live), building huts, walls, primitive weapons and such. As time progresses and as the player progresses each of the characters would grow and age and their knowledge would increase allowing the construction of better and more advanced weapons, buildings, better health, and domestication. Im thinking permadeath would be a must, or some sort of alternative death system.
How could this fit into an mmo genre?
Simple, you have a huge loadless continent, with a ton of islands around it where the new players begin. Once a new player is able to build off the island he is prone to attack and can move onto the continent with more resources and food. The other human players could build up weapons and take over and ally and even absorb other players npc's or even the other player to make a sort of co-opertive gov't.
And as time progresses people advance, wars are waged, and so on and so forth. And to keep it fair it would be strongly recommended or impossible to join an older server
That would be my dream game

My dream MMO would be a MMORPG in a sort of sci-fi/horror/gothic setting loaded with anachronisms (such as the materialization of ancient lore in a typical Stephen King environ, a gun-slinging western town on the brink of destruction at the hands of axe-wielding vampires).
The sense of realism would be enhanced by permanent death and unpredictable outcomes: Towns could be raided by zombies, tombs could be raided by villagers or both could be under attack by aliens from another dimension.
There would be no restrictions on player actions: You could attack any player, any guard, or any object, although each society/eco-system that you existed in would try to sustain itself: so that if you were to commit an act of murder you would either be captured (in which case you would be put to death or fininancially penalized depending on your status) or put to death on the spot.
You could also steal, pillage and use guerilla tactics vs players of enemy guilds (ex. setting their building on fire, throwing a grenade through their window or simply have an assassin camp outside of their building at night and picking them off one by one).
You could also kill players of your own guild, but would be tried for homicide (as if you had killed a guard depending on the standing of the individual; you could even be a hero if you PK a PKer) if the person had a positive status.
The environments would be very interactive and very dangerous: You could scale trees and kill soloing travelers, but would also be at risk of being devoured by the flying, carnivorous, giant bats.
Also spells and such would require the solution of complex logical puzzles/riddles instead of doing menial activities to acquire.
....... etc. ?
"Oh, what sad times are these when passing ruffians can say 'ni' at will to old ladies. There is a pestilence upon this land. Nothing is sacred."

This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.
my dream mmorpg would be like, a cross between freelancer, starshatter, and wing commander.
where the space travel method in this mmo is sort of like freelancer.. you travel from one system to another, as you do an in-system warp from one place to another darkspace style. and then the flight system would be like starshatter using newton phsyics. and then the combat system is more like a wing-commander style. Where you have foward, back, left, and right armor, and a front, and back shield. Man, that would be a total dream mmo here..
or how about, an mmo where graphics are like EVE online, along with a flight engine which is a lot like homeplanet. man I would be there in a heartbeat if this mmo actually existed.
Games Played:DoAC, EQ, CoH, Lineage 2, Planetside, and Shadowbane.
Games Playing:None:(
Waiting For:WoW, EQII
My dream MMO is already being worked on .
Don't want to post the idea right now though.
My Dream MMORPG is already in beta.
Dark and Light.

Life is just a huge game.
Everything comes and go.
My dream MMORPG is Darkfall Online.
As Mel Gibson would say, it's all about, "FREEDOM!"
Kingdom of Eleador
SLA Industries (Paper and Pencil Role Playing game) online. Its a Sci Fi horror game where the players take on the role of "Operatives" mercenaries in the Pay of SLA Industries (which is both government and owning company of everything). The Ops take on missions in the pay of SLA (Slay) and idea is to live fast become horribly rich and famous, and most importantly; do what you're told.
You get a powerful character right from the start, you goal is to become rich and famous. Characters suffer permadeath when they die, none of this resurrection crap. Every bullet and blade can kill you if it hits you right. Shoot a newbie in the face or a 10 year war world vet and they both die just the same, SLA industries watches your every move, take a step out of line and Internal Affairs pays you a visit. (They only ever pay you one visit). Guns and ammunition are expensive and as knife fights make better TV Ops are "encouraged" to fight blade to blade rather than bullet to bullet.
It all takes place on a world wrecked by ecoloogocal disaster, a bit like a cross between Neocron, Bladerunner, the Crow, the Running Man, Brazil, 1984 and your worst horror movie.
If only....

Anarchy Online 2.....after nuclear devastation has rendered Shadowlands uninhabitable and the portals have been closed. Maybe the aliens did it. They're cool, they can stay...but that ghey phantasy world has GOT to go.
My colon can beat up your colon.
This is a condensed version (of course)
My dream mmo would be fantasy based (I'm sadly particular to the whole post-apocalyptic version). Classes in the game would have far far more skills than one character could ever hope to achieve. Each character would be able to fill many different roles dependant on the situation.
Magic is not restricted to a few classes. ALL classes have some form of magic tied to their specific form of combat (or support or crafting or whatever). Escaping bad situations should also be possible, no cheap tactic are used by npc's(I'm looking at you, WoW).
Quests would have multiple methods of completion and storylines/objectives could branch depending on choices. Included on some quests could be puzzles. Real puzzles, some physical, some riddles, sometimes they must be performed under some kind of pressure.
Highly customizeable combat. This includes being able to custom-tailor autoattack.
Player interaction with storyline. GM's select a player (or 30) to participate in world-changing events. Also GM ran events would occur quite often, even if they're very small.
NPC raids on villages (yes I know some games already have these).
Extreme visual customization of player crafted items. A suit of plate could have 8 different styles, with suboptions. This would create players that look truly different from one another.
Combination attacks between players a la crono trigger.
PvP arenas with a multitude of rulesets to use. Maybe even customizeable rulesets.
Tools for running player-created events like festivals, fairs, combat tourneys, etc. Dev-ran events should also be occuring.
No rare equipment other than the exceptionally crafted item, and even then strategy and skill should play more of a role. Even better, all items bar the starter equipment would be player crafted. (no exceptional T-21 with 3000 max damage for you SWG peeps)
Tons of things to do that only take a few minutes, and tons that take much longer.
those are a few of the features of my dream mmo. One of the biggest though is the creation of a live team (what I thought ac2's live team was going to be but I was soooooooooo wrong). This team is concerned ONLY with the creation and coordination of live events.
... oh yeah, their Customer Support should be fully trained to handle issues properly and complaints about CS should be taken very seriously.
I could go on further, but I'm sure everyone by now is dozing off, so I won't
I was thinkin bout this the other day
I dunno if this is "my dream mmorpg", but I think it would be an interesting change from the norm.
Basically, a mmorpg that takes place on about 10 acres of land. But, instead of being humans or aliens, the characters you play are insects. Crazy insects gods and godesses who know magic and wear armor. lol
the high end game should of course deal with raids on humans... It would probably have to start out with that little bastard kid with the magnifying glass.. Then his family and friends..
hahaha
oh yea
"Also spells and such would require the solution of complex logical puzzles/riddles instead of doing menial activities to acquire."
we must have both picked up on it from our collective unconciousness I was thinking about that same idea the other day..
AD&D 3rd Edition Online. I know it's already in the works, but I'm disappointed that there isn't controlled PvP available. My hopes for it is as follows:
Sexy graphics. By that I mean that they allow for characters to be racy/sexy without being vulgar in how they garb themselves with their armor and equipment selection. Ideally it'd be as customizable as CoH costumes are, including your weaponry's look.
Content: In general, most think of the word of content and immediately think of EQ or other games they're veterans of. While such content is important and should be part of a MMOG, I strongly dislike titles that push for zerg fests. EQ was horrible that way, and DAoC wasn't far off especially when they started to copy EQ. No MMOG should go beyond a full group when figuring how many participants a event should require (optional yes, and let the encounter instance up to the number of players present so that if you have 2 full groups present, it instances with a accordingly tougher challenge, but don't *require* it).
But that sort of content is same old same old. Even if done great, it's missing a lot of things. Dungeons should be dangerous with traps and locked chests and monsters should have keys or rune keys, rope ladders that you can retract to foil pursuing monsters, ect. Dungeons however, aren't everything. It should be part of the content, and they should be dynamic (i.e. respond to actions beyond the casting of a spell or whitling away hitpoints).
There should be a political system in place. Things like Guilds that can acquire not just a guildhall, but lands that theyre responsible for defending and developing by seeing to the wellfar of the Peasantry (or their oppression). Morality is a matter of choice rather than some urge to deflect the religious minority from pointing at the game company and avoiding accusations of being too adult (side rant: I personally feel that parents who complain about the adult content in a game and protection for their children should stop wanting someone else to do their job, dont' want your kid to be exposed to it? Simple, stop letting them use the family credit card). In fact all of the content should be adult (well, minus animated sex), including brothels, a theive's guild where things are done accordingly, ect.
I want to see content where the religion of a character matters, where their place in the heirarchy matters, just as belonging to a knightly order matters, or a mage's guild, ect. None of these things have been tackled by any company, but as computers evolve they *should* be.
There's more, but that's enough of a rant for now
Money and Sin are a lot alike, the more you got the more you want and you can never have too much.
Even peace may be purchased at too high a price, and the only time you are completely safe is when you lie in the grave.
my dream mmo...
one thing i would be able to do, climb the tower of babel (stare over the planet from space) and shoot an arrow into heaven
Well prob. Everquest2 with Good vs. Evil races PvP. Sony, are you guys nuts, perfect PvP setup!!! Anyway if Shadowbane had a "new" engine, it would prob. do. I loved the open PvP, GvG, NvN, seiging, & City building. When will Darkfall come out anyway looks great I want to play it?
A Battletech MMORPG.
You could controll and own starships, dropships, vehicles(all kinds) and battlemechs. You would be able to highly customise and modify any of these.
Space and ground fight would be included. Full time PvP by factions. Experience and skillbased PvP system, where you would still need your own skills to aim and shoot straigh Solaris 7 Arena events.
You could build factories, mech hangars other buildings on the planets.
You could gain controll over cities, territories, planets for your chosen house or clan.
This MMO would rock my world and thousands of Battletech fans.
p.s: If you don't know anyhting about Battletech and interested, try www.ClassicBattletech.com .

My dream MMO would have infinite character advancement (no level cap), a HUGE player world, and by huge I mean like if you set your character on auto run and you tried to run around the world and there was no blocks to your movement it would take like a month to go across the world, as well as no lag, great graphics, nearly infinite content, awesome gameplay, low monthly fees and no immature asses, of course it would take some sort of omnipowerful god to make that and make it work out.
"The most overlooked advantage to owning a computer is that if they foul up, there's no law against whacking them around a little." --Porterfield
My dream game would be a Shadowrun MMORPG.
The game's advancement would be based on you successfully completing runs and not on combat. Anyone who has read or played the pen and paper version knows that blasting your way into a shadowrun is just asking for trouble as there is always something bigger and nastier than you are.
It would have to have a fully functioning faction system where your faction affects your game.
My dream MMO? Bring back EnB, add the three new classes. Scrap the vrix war story crap. Add more systems and more quests that explain the backstory. Add guild amenities. Allow guild points to be spent on things like 5% increase to all guild members building skills, or whatever skill so that those points are worth something.
Instead of updating the story every month have GM/DEV run monthly events like sector invasions that the players have to fight off and can get cool rewards. Make some high lvl trade runs that are dangerous but rewarding. Yeah, that would be cool. It's not likely to happen but it would be cool. Oh, and bring back Westwood studios and shut down EA.
/end rant
I have seen the Arctic Circle... And it is round.
My dream MMO is one with no scammer, hacker, begger, asshole, elite and all the one I forgot that piss me off. Just people who wants to help and have fun.
