It means if you have to ask this is not the game for you.
I'm enjoying the game so far, I'm just asking a simple question. Apparently you're just too hardcore to answer, but I'd appreciate an answer and some sort of explanation of the death penatly if some human being isn't too busy.
Did I miss the deadline for newb questions or something? Last I checked the game hasn't even been released yet.
IIRC, yes this is permanent. I believe it is an option they have in just for Beta testing. If you actually walk (or float or whatever you do as a ghost) to the healer there is no stat loss. Teleporting to the healer (with stat loss) is in to make it easier to test but will not be an option after the game launches.

It teleports you to the nearest shrine, not the nearest healer. I know because I used it being completely lost at first (at least that stupid help menu is there now) and it just ported me to the middle of nowhere in front of a shine, and I still had to walk for the better part of forever to find a healer.
One of the many joys you can experience each time you get killed because a desynced ferret mauled you to death and then teleported away.

Most hardcore thing I've heard about this game yet!
water came out of my nose with desynced ferret mauled you to death .. oh my god I can't wait to play this game .. no really . its gonna be epic .. it sooo sandbox that you have to make up reasons to like it .. i'm gonna enjoy trying real hard to like this game .. cause honestly the concept has me enamored .. why do all the great concept games always end up sucking so hard?
Its not permanent. You can get the stats back the same way you got them.
We're getting into semantics here. It's permanent in the sense that you have to actively regain the skills just the same as if you never had them in the first place. This is in contrast to a limited time debuff/ resurrection sickness that you find in some games

How many delicate flowers have you met in Counterstrike?
I got a case of beer and a chainsaw waiting for me at home after work.
