I've been checking out the Xsyon forums daily, and have formed my own translation of the myriad threads and replies, and it goes, abridged, like this:
The hardcore PvP aspect of Darkfall (which I've played on and off for a year) is not the PvP of Xsyon. The word "carebear" is thrown around as a derogatory term, so I'll not use it, but...Xsyon seems to be a game aiming for appealing to more than just the "I wanna go kill people now!" crowd and the "I craft constantly and fight a little bit, but mainly craft my ass off" crowd. I've preordered and joined up with a tribe, and now I wait to play the game in hopes it turns out to be something spiffy.
We have a winner.
Pretty much what they are looking for to me too.
Also I think Xsyon will have a few things that PVPers will like, but again not like it will be Darkfall style of in your face we dont care because you are carebear style of PVP either.
This and this.
PvP is fine, but only as an equal part of the whole.
I agree - PvP needs to be a sensible part of the game world. In Darkfall, PvP had no real consequences within the context of the world (gear loss is trivial, flagging rules were weak), which in my mind, made it a poor game overall.
Glad to know you, DDT, are going along the same lines of thinking as I am. When I said that I've been keeping up with the forums, many of the posts (and videos!) I've been looking at were yours. Thanks for keeping us informed.

combat system is being tweaked/worked on devs have said... Their is active parry/block and dodging currently in you just attack to fast so its about spamming your mouse clicks.
Will be changed though
Sure, it will. Devs lie. Believe it when it happens.
As someone else said - great feature list. Last time I heard a feature list that caught my attention like this - it was Warhammer Online. We saw how that turned out.
I would LOVE it if this game turned out to be the real deal, but the odds are that it won't be close to what is being promised.

You have pre-ordered a game you haven't played? Have you no knowledge of what recent MMO releases have been like?

Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.
+1 .... on my radar, nuff said.
