Just came back to WAR

I actually just joined MMORPG to do a quick post about WAR, after I read some post here about the server population, how crowded and its future (after lurking around here for a long time).

I just resubbed to the game yesterday after being away for almost a year (3 x lvl40 toons). And got to say I've had a real blast! I was pleasantly surprised with how crowded it was, scenarios popped every few minutes and lots of ORVR going on. While I'm sure it will be less crowded in the higher tiers, I still think it's a very good indication of a comeback for WAR and that it's doing better.

I'm probably what you call a more mature gamer, but guessing that many like myself have had similiar experiances in the past year or more. I've tested and played everything pretty much everything else available after being initially disappointed with WAR. I tried out Aion but gave up due to the nasty community and mindless grind, not to mention the horrible art style (pink frilly dresses and armour just isn't my thing), only managed to get to late 30s. I also tested Fallen Earth and couldn't get past the bad graphics and clunky feeling, it does look very outdated. I tried AoC and just couldn't get into it (it felt very plain and empty). I tested RoM and couldn't even get past lvl1, graphics is just so bad. But more recently I just finished playing Allods and found myself realizing how boring the game was. The art style did really suit me, graphics are good, classes are great and game play is decently fun. But there is no real PVP and nothing to do after 40 more than daily quests and running the same dungeons over and over again (heroics). And the Allods community was one of the worst I've ever encountered.

This is when I started looking at WAR again and read some posts on here about server population. I also realized that actually compared to all the games that's been released in the past 12 months that I've tried, WAR isn't so bad!

Sure there was some bad technical problems but those seems to have been resolved. Some stupid aspects of ORVR but it seems many of them have been improved (don't know about the zerg's..). Yes, crafing sucks.. But if you compare to other new games, WAR is actually quite well thought out, graphics are very good (really recommend tweaking your grapic cards settings, it makes a massive difference - not the game graphic settings!) and it's got excellent lore like no other game. But most of all, it's got the best PVP currently available.

The short of it is, I highly recommend testing WAR out, both to new and old players!

It's well-populated in (the Empire/Chaos part of) tier one because of the unlimited trial. A LOT of those players will never go farther than that.

There are still lots of bugs, and end game still isn't fixed.

Sadly 'War sucks but the rest suck even more!" seems to be one of the best and prevailing arguments these days, and probably speaks more about todays MMO world than it does of WAR.

I always get the feeling that people "just registering to a forum to tell others how awesome a game is when they returned the day before" are usually working for the publishers for the game.

(still remembering all the SOE employees posting in multiple forums how awesome SWG had become after the NGE and that the servers were almost overcrowded with enthousiastic players)

But if not good for you hope you continue to enjoy the game.

As I keep saying, make a server without scenarios and I'll give it another go.

It's amazing that only trolls / naysayers no need any valid proof to support their "true" and "honest" OPINION...

Played when it came out, gave up after the first year. A game that was supposed to have main cities for each race, and then to cancel 4 of them is a great example of a major screw up. Couple that with all the bugs I dealt with, CC abilities out of control and nothing to do at 40, the game was mediocre at best.

Now they add unlimited free trial, fewer scenarios, "balanced" CC abilities, and still no new actual content. Game has no real potential in its current form. When Mythic chose to make it shared lands instead of a more DAoC world, they started the beginning of the end for this game.

IF you played the game for a year, then, I can suppose, you had fun with it for a year... interesting.

(I played WoW for almost 4 years, and I had fun with it. Maybe I should start bashing WoW now, following your standard...)

That's quite cynical and very unwelcoming.. That itself speaks a fair bit about the MMO community. I only shared my personal experience and not the ultimate truth.

Don't get me wrong, WAR is in no way perfect. But I feel it's definitely worth another try. I have in the past year tested more or less anything and everything that remotely appealed to me. Allods was probably what I liked the most and I might return to it if it's given some type of real PVP and the insane greed of its developers are settled to a more "normal" level.

What other game is there that can offer me good graphics (with no pink frilly bits), fairly balanced classes with real PVP (both open rvr and scenarios)?

Unfortunately I have to agree. It really is a matter of what game sucks the least.

A year is not a long time to put into an MMORPG. I played it (as a paying customer) that long. It's a testament to the lack of competition it has as a group-PvP game, not it's own quality.

There won't be any four-year veterans of this game.

Have to admit my first thought when I saw the one post count and the massive game promo with links in it was 'Gold seller!', but the links seem fine.

Still, you don't often see people register to make 'essay' type posts with their first post rather than participate in some sort of discussion, and more often than now they somehow end up being one post wonders or one week flies, something to of that sort.

It's almost the same with all those crazy "I just came back yesterday and it's fkin awesome! You guys are full of it!' type posts of people you never see again the next month or so. (that goes for most games btw, probably something to do with short attention spans image)

btw, don't necessarily mean you OP, just what seems to happen most of the time.

After they released Burning Crusade (or whatever) expansion I quit playing as I realised that moment that I hate raiding and pve, thankfully WAR is still here - waiting for the next RvR game and hopefully that is SWTOR.

Not necessarily you, but my first thought when I see a naysaying or accusing post that it was written by someone who's working for... a competitor company.

Fair enough? Probably not. I'd like to appologize for my unfair assumption.

I think it says a lot about not only the games, but about the players (and their perceptions).

Even though Warhammer has it's downfalls like End-game it has more UP than 90% of MMO's to date.  Everyone can just post "Go Play W.o.W" but even W.o.W has gotten old/sucky/boring after playing it for 3+ years.

P.s.s.   The biggest flaw of Warhammer (End Game) is getting totally re-done in a couple weeks.

End game to me consists of more than just the city siege. Let's put aside the fact that we have no clue what they are actually doing with the city siege so far, the fact that people end up in the city  easily 2-3 times a day has made the whole campaign system nothing more than trivial. everything in between the cities has become nothing more than a speedbump rather than anything interesting to fight over tactically.

I'd agree, for the most part.  They really need to redesign the entire T4 RvR system from the ground up, rather than modifying the existing architecture, with an eye toward actually making the RvR experience a lot more dynamic than it is.

If they simply turn the later stages of the City Siege into simplistic games of capture the flag, like they did with Stage 1, the experience really won't be any better.  It's supposed to be an attack on a capital city, but from the way it progresses, it sure as hell doesn't feel like one.

I don't think they have the steam left to make the kind of changes needed.

By the way, have they added any new instances or is it still only the same city instances?

Dude these guys dont care about pve. If i was mythic i would add in like 10-15 leveling dungeons and an entire raid progression system at endgame that players could do if they dont want to farm orvr.

And for god sakes please add new crafting professions. What happend to all the hype of us making weapons out of bones of our enemies?

Pisses me off that i fell for the pr hype.

Sorry, no crafting professions everything is covered already. Perhaps in the possible expansion.

Land of the Dead has pve with pvp twist as your instances can be invaded -> http://herald.warhammeronline.com/warherald/NewsArticle.war?id=800 bit old but still valid, don't know if there is a better guide somewhere, also there is Lost Vale - no one does city dungeons anymore - or at least people that don't like pve.

Personally I am thankful you are not Mythic. Sheesh, pve is such a chore.

I've played WAR on and off since it's release, and I do agree with the OP that there's a 'lively vibe' back in the game. :D

  • LorkLork Member Posts: 338

WAR sucked for me because 9 out of every 10 players did not know how to play their class or did not know what to do in ORvR or scenarios.
