Optimistic about Mortal Online? ... I'll try

Tenk575Tenk575 Member UncommonPosts: 116

It hasn't been easy. The progress being made seems to come in small doses. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. I prefer to think that they are making sure not to take step backwards when implicating new features/patches. However, the fact still remains that there is still so much that needs to be done. I was timid to hear that the game was going in an open beta phase, for the obvious reasons. When doing a 'personal' review of Mortal Online, I found two things. First, the game is in desperate need of attention for the things that most people would assume was dealt with in an alpha testing phase. Second, the feeling of potential is there. However, it makes things difficult when you see mobs climbing up the sides of trees in a roaming mode. Things like that can make that realism feeling go away rather quickly.

It isn't that Mortal Online is a BAD game, its just behind schedule. There shouldn't be any reason to rush the release of the game, unless funds are getting short. In which case, the future of the game is in hands beyond theirs. I doubt the game in its current state would attract a large enough crowd to pay the bills for SV. Although, I think I will stick around as long as I can, in hopes that SV will capture the goal they are setting out for.

I understand SV wants to move at their pace. However, that is sounding more and more like a cop out. We all know the game is behind schedule for where it should be in a phase like this. Although, that doesn't change the fact that the game is expected to be released rather soon. We all want to see the direction they can take this thing. I guess the only thing we can all hope for is they can afford to the keep the game running long enough to turn it into the quality game it can be.

All in all, the game looks and feels like a world at times. The feeling can be quickly altered when you see a pig walking up the side of a tree. It can also be altered by people blatantly speed hacking in populated areas. It also doesn't help when your stuck upside down. Be that as it may, the game still remains with its potential.

We all just need to understand by playing this game, were making more of an investment for the future than anything else. I hope they can get this thing turned around.

Good luck SV! You got a long road ahead of you if you want to release this bad boy. Its just not playable right now, and if you are truly MMO players...... you know that. Even more depressing is Mortal Onlines top advocates can only respond with,"We have heard it all before." There is no real defense against people complaints, its just.... we know.

PS: Every post negative post on the forums (there is a new one about every 2 hours or so) is merged with a stickied 'First Impressions' thread. There are currently 853 replies in that thread, most of which are a completely honest AND negative view of the game. It seems the only people who are defending the game are those with forum accounts that age over 1 year, they probably don't want to feel their time following this game was a waste.

More and more this game is starting to feel like a game called Dark and Light (in the production sense), some of you may know how that ended up.

No one ever doubts the potential of this game. everyone that has actaully managed to play the beta can agree all the right stuff is there and nobody is denying that. What everyone agrees on is that this game is a LONG way from finished.

the problem comes now when you ask the question " does SV have the money to finish this game?"

As of right now they dont. this is why they have been trying to relaese the game in the state it's in. they know it's not ready, they know it's not what they wanted it to be at launch, they know how everyone feels about their product, but they have no money left. they are forced to release it to get some money so they can contine working on the game.

Now, releasing a broken buggy game has been disastrous for many mmos. people don't like to be sold broken unfinished games, they will feel cheated and this leaves a bad taste in their mouths. this bad taste will linger long after the game has fixed all it's buggs and polished it's content.

I also hope that they can survive long enugh to at least make this game at least smooth and playable. by that i mean at least the combat has to be smooth and enjoyable, non of this crazy lag, disync, piggs dashing 100 meters in 1 second stuff. content can wait but only if the main feature of this game ( combat ) works flawlessly.  even if they only manage to realize 50% of what they are trying to accomplish this will be an awesome hard core mmo.

Its all there, on paper. However, almost none of it is actually in the game.

I think the PowerPoint presentation they published had potential.  This game no longer has any positive potential.  The only part that resembles UO is the Thievery and even that is hampered by the attrocious inventory and banking system.  That's just my opinion of course.

Still it's good that the OP is giving it a shot while it is free.  I think anyone even slightly interested should do so and make their own minds up.

Behind schedule?! i followed this game religously before beta.  I preordered thinking, again, it was the messiah of mmo's id been waiting for.

played beta block B and off and on till today.  It is not behind schedule. it is nothing that they said it would be. its absolute garbage.  the only good thing is the race mixer, and the thievery, which everyone is complaining to have removed.

the rest is trash, nothing of what they said would be there is there. and it wont be there on launch either. i already got tricked to preorder, sure as fuck aint subb'ing to this POS

You might want to check you account settings, Starvault set all accounts to renew by default!!!

I'm sure you don't want to give them any more money.

WHAT!!! image    Why would he NOT want to set the account to DO NOT RENEW?  It seems pretty obvious he doesnt want to give SV anymore money. imageimageimageimage    There's absolutely NO downside to doing it now. image

Except that SV don't seem to be informing their customers of this arrangement, so it doesn't matter how many free months they throw in, eventually he will start being charged money without realising it. A simple courtesy email from SV saying "we have set your subscription to renew" and instructions on how to change it should the customer want to would be nice. I'd even consider it basic professional courtesy.

    Thanks for the replies guys..

Losing more and more hope every day in MO.

  • The potential is there, I give them that. But right now, it's a lot of wasted potential.

I initially thought I would wait until it becomes more of the game they promised it would be, but if they really auto-charge everyone who pre-ordered, then I will stay away once and for all.
