Every site that has put out a review has given this game a bottom of the tank rating(FACT). Which I really could give a damn about. But the fact is that Star Vault was ready to release the game in March, at least thats what they told us. The staplepoint reason for delaying was due to the desynchronization issues. If not for that, based off of what they have told us, we would be playing this game without the beta tag on it.
Just about every review of this game, has for the most part neglected mention the desynchronization issues because they knew about that before hand. Now when one review pops up and says the game is, and I quote " A Mortal Waste Of Time" I would say if you want to say its a bad review based on lack of knowledge by the person issuing the review thats fine. However, when 15 other people reviewing the game from 15 other websites say similar things. I think you've really gotta stop and think about your arguing point. If a mechanic comes and tells me I need a new muffler--sure, I can say "Piss Off, You only want my money." But if a dozen tell me the same--I gotta presume I have muffler problems.
Star Vault publically announced that they would be releasing the game in March. That was mid month. Now you and I can logically assume that had they fixed desynchonization the game would be out. What that means is that everything else that is problematic--would certainly be in. What was reviewed was a release candidate of the game not the beta. That defense realistically no longer works when they tell us two weeks from the end of March that it will release this month.
Basically what it comes down to is that all these companies have reviewed the game. And by the criteria they review on, this game is very broken, unfinished and low quality--it has an amazing concept with a botched delivery. To the public, the weight of a reviewers opinion is worth ten times that of a person playing the game. No matter how much fanboys and all want to deny it, the general consensus is that this game is just not good.

Basically the same reason that Tasos was mad that Darkfall got a horrible review, because it was a horrible game at the time. I don't know how much it's improved, but MO is coming out in a WORSE state than Darkfall (because let's face it -- even without any bugs, there's simply nothing to do) so the fans of the game and the developers at some point too, will be saying that the reviews are BS because it costs them in their bottom line.
Either way, MO won't get any good reviews because the game simply isn't any good.
"Why do certain people get annoyed when there's a negative review of X?"
It's simple enough: It's because they're idiot fanboys who've been brainwashed into endlessly defending companies that would benefit from criticism. ALL companies try to do this, but the people who seem to fall for it the most are MMOs players.
It's sad, really.
Why would you get defensive about a game you like? Because you like it and want the game to grow and not be snuffed out. If people say bad things, people will think bad things and then bad things will happen. It's really that simple. The same goes for any game. Cept' WoW. They're immune.
I think people are just sick and tired of the same 3 haters coming here and doing this in every thread,
yeah we know about the desync and all the problems, there's an open beta to try it out yourself. We don't need to be reminded with 3 new threads that are just pseudo flame bait every day, do we?

Dunno. If folks are still playing Mortal Online perhaps a reminder of reality is the nicest thing someone can do for them... at least online. For nicer things contact your boyfriend, girlfriend, or the drunk fat chick at the end of the bar. ;-)

Having tried the game from Beta Block A and then roughly once a month since then I would go back into it and check it out. I can confidently say that this game has changed very little. To the point where it really at this point doesn't matter. On the PC gamer podcast like two weeks ago they said that there is a universal number of somewhere around 30,000 subscribers that an MMO must maintain in order to legitimatly sustain itself and continued developement. The fact that MO is nowhere near that is why I feel this game wont be around long.
Well since MO hasn't launched and technicaly has no subscribers I guess you're right, has SV released their projected numbers or something since you seem to be in the know. I'd appreciate it if you could link it where they state their projected numbers for launch.

Personally I care as much about a review as I do about how much you may like a game that I like. As it's all the same thing, someone elses opinion. I don't think its as you're saying though. Most of the time people just get sick of the constant bashing that goes on (for all games). The bashers tend to use bad reviews as ammunition for flame baiting. As if a bad review actually strengthens their stance.
I'm of the school of thought that "a good game needs no defense, and a bad game has no defense" -freddynonose
Which really just says if a game is fun for you there's no reason to defend it. Just enjoy it and ignore those who's opinions differ, as that has no bearing what so ever on your experience.
For every minute you are angry , you lose 60 seconds of happiness."-Emerson
IM speaking based off of the fact that the first Presales they stated they would be selling 10,000 copies. I know they were having a tough time for a while selling out all of those. Now I can state with 99% assurance that they didn't end up selling 20,000 more copies. I guess thats what I based what I had said off of.
That makes absolutely no sense. If they wanted their game to survive, they should've released a good game, it's that simple.
They associate that game with themselves and see it as a personal attack. Or something like that?
Professional video game reviews suck, especially when it comes to MMOs. Regardless of the state of MO, I would expect any fans of any game to defend against reviews, which are always inaccurate and shallow.
Cryptic is trying a Customer Development approach to MMO creation.
Doing a review on a mmo is like reviewing a movie after having seen the first 10 minutes. Sometimes you might get it right, but most of the time you wont. Besides, its not possible to put a number on 'taste'.
If you stand VERY still, and close your eyes, after a minute you can actually FEEL the universe revolving around PvP.
Well I see a fairly decent launch I can't say with any accuracy on what the sales would be but it will be above 10k for sure. This is a low budget sandbox that doesn't have the backing of a big studio or AAA publisher and no media machine pushing it. I don't think anyone is expecting a massive sales but it must be over 10k!

It's more than the same 3 lol, though some do tend to frequent the forums a lot more than they probably should. But in any case You of all people should be familiar with this kind of defensiveness. I mean SGW had it's fan defending it regardless of the facts for a long while and as time went on fewer and fewer defended it. Same things happening here lol.
Same claims just different details. The lies, scams, the shoddy product, the haters harping on the negatives, fans grasping at straws to defend it.
Tell me this doesn't resemble SGW lol.
All we need now to complete the reenactment is for the lawsuits to start pouring in. SV seems keen on making that part happen as well if this auto-renew business plays out like it sounds like it will.
Well I think there are some big differences between this an SWG, MO is in beta and yeah it's full of bugs and half finished features ... but it's beta so maybe wait until it launches to write a review slating it? I don't think anyone is saying the game is in good condition and since it's in a free OB everyone on this forum that gives a shit can try it out.
Lies? Scams? Please could you point out how SV has scammed people are you talking about people who got a special edition and felt it was sub par for the price paid? Well you can alwyas send it back right? I'm telling you this doesn't resemble SWG and you'll have to wait until after launch to get your blood along with the others howling for SV blood!
Don't hold your breath waiting for those lawsuits to start pouring in and this auto renew thing is just some BS that those same few haters have blown out of all proportion as they've got bored of beating the dead desync horse and feel they need to widen their scope of bashing. Bashing SV for money they might steal in the future maybe is pretty weak man, with SOE you had plenty of examples of money they'd taken under false pretences you didn't need to clutch at straws and become some type of MMORPG fortune teller. Also it's liablous and very good grounds for a lawsuit :P

Probably cause they're old Darkfall fans.
Darkfall fans were used to having the entire website against them (for no particular reason other than it was the game to hate at the time) telling them the game didn't exist, it was a hoax, a social experiment, ect ect, and then when it came out, so many were so surprised, they just started flaming it without playing it.
So they're used to getting unjustified hatred thrown at them. Now Mortal Online rolls along, a game that actually is deserving of just about all the criticism it gets, and old reflexes come back, they think they're just getting flamed for the hell of it and not cause its a bad game.
Simple... Because its an FFA PvP game & ,as such, it attracks that kind of crowd.
They like their PvP in games as well as in forums.
>>Well you can alwyas send it back right?
Many people have tried to get refunds, but either they are backed up with people wanting refunds or they don't give a shit, because refund requests are met with silence.
>>but it's beta so maybe wait until it launches to write a review slating it?
Minus possibly desync, the game right now is the game that will be released. Beta time and most certainly the "it's beta" excuse is over. Reviewing the game for how it is now is fine.
He who keeps his cool best wins.
Negative comments are bad for business.
ALL fanboys are like this, not just PvP fans.
Also another reason is because many of them probably believe they're defending the last hopes for the MMO industry, the only companies trying to do something different. But they are foolishly worshipping Starvault instead of much better indie companies trying to fix a dead genre, like Darkfall or Fallen Earth.
Me, i stopped defending MO. I believe we are enough to support MO at release and if not, i believe some DF players will add a huge boost to the MO sub number.
Im having fun in the game and i dont care for the lack of content and other stuff. By lack of content, do you guys mean lack of quests? Well without quest, i have more fun because i feel like i can do anything i want from the start. This is what a sandbox had always been intended to be. I interact with everyone i cross in game while traveling. With the chat bubble system, all players can see when i post something. they stop by and answer my question or simply socialize with me. I play solo and im still having fun. At launch, i will join a small mercenary type guild.
Most of you guys who hate MO today are the same person who would hate UO back in the days for sure. I never played UO, in faq, my 1st mmorpg was wow and still, i like MO more then any other mmorpg's out there.
I know desync lag is a big problem, but this is currently the only thing i have hope for to get fixed. Without that problem, the game is perfect to me. Other stuff to improve and add, i could wait for that aslong that the desync lag get fixed.
The real reason on why i like MO so much, grind is almost none existent or is either a choice. If you want to grind in MO, you simply become a crafter and your grind will be endless. If you dont want any grind, you join a large clan and they can make gears for you every time you die. Im planning to be a red pker too. So once i die as a red player, i may lose 10% stats, but i heard from the others that regaining our stats back dont take long. Its just a cooldown to prevent the red pkers from going back every time after they die.

Ahh that explains a LOT... See... I actually DID play UO (Why you would even compare it to a game you never played is beyond me)... from Beta on to Trammel. I played on Chess and Atlantic. To paraphrase the late Senator Lloyd Bentsen:
"I played the original UO, I knew UO, UO was a favorite game of mine. Mortal Online, you're no UO.... "
Not even close... except for Thievery.. nothing else is even close. Not to mention that the game in question is 13 years old...
