Just after the first few lines, NO! That is lame. Plus the communication system would just be ignored thanks to vent and 3rd party things. Aside from the fail attempt with carrier pigeons, tl;dr.

Not opposed to seeing how anything could work out but this game wouldn't be for me for sure.  The thing I think alot of gamers who seem to desire archaic ufnctions like you mention seem to not think of is my character in an mmo lives in his world it should be assumed he does so even when I'm not playing (which for alot of us is most of the time) so things like guild/global chat are things I don't think of in terms of while I'm playing but more so in terms of my avatars activities when I'm away, that's for me how I keep my immersion.  I've played a few games and had fun exploring but I've never found exploring because I need to find something for a task fun so I rather like being shown to what I need to find.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

I can see this game having at least a few people who will sell their "courier" service to those people who wish to send mail to a near by town but don't want to wait the 22 hour required time.  I figure all those people who currently enjoy those "take this message to that guy in the town across the river" taks to be all over it.

Would I play your game?  Sure.  Will people circumvent your chat restrictions with some kind of third party program like Ventrilo or Team Speak?  Damn skippy.  The issue with "gold sellers" being psionicists might not work so well because the OP stated you'd have to be high level to send one way messages.  Most gold sellers don't bother leveling their toons that high and if they do they'll more then likely find a class more suited towards fast killing that perhaps the psionicist isn't?

Everything else I tend to agree with.  The on scree tracing symbol thing was used in previous games like Black and White.  You could use "gestures" to cast stuff faster.  It worked just fine when I played so I see no reason why it couldn't in an MMO.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

That sounds like it would be pretty cool.  I would give it a try.

Realism is not the issue. The question is, who really needs a global chat ? Except goldsellers.

And I dont see why it would kill people to have to solve a quest to get a magic item so they can speak with their current guild.

I wouldnt want to join a guild where I have to log into a Teamspeak server at all times to be able to talk with other people, but maybe thats just me.

I would love that game to support voice chat for the current group or raid, by the way.

Global trade chat ... how about for LFG? Everyone use that in WOW before they put in the new dungeon finder tool.

To solve a quest before i can even talk to my guildmates? LOL ... you are confusing fun content and chores.

To give my 5 cents on this

Ive played mmos that had limited communicatons on /say / yell before.. not too much of a problem but with no global anything it kinda hard to find ppl unless of course everthing is centerized. I would much perfer town chat or region chat only opitional of course. Global is just a pain the ass but sometimes amusing when your bored  aka wow trade chat..

The  22 hour pigeon is questionable becuase if that guy is in the same town as you why would it take 22 hours??? maybe if i sent a horse to him? or a new set of heavy battle gear or such... should just have a time/ weight/ distance factor  for a real world feel.

Inn and bulletin boards sounds like a nice idea to me..  you can even take that idea that other guy put out  for hiring lower lvls for gathering / take this here work.  But you would have to increase the 100 limit if theres a large pop.

When it comes to the no /tell no /guildspeak till higher guild lvl..i would have to turn you down on that since i love to play with my family  and friends.. and ive seen no guild speak before so why even be in it if you can't speak to anyone.

Wouldn't mind the whole compass thing and no map while walking expect when you need to look at it...would  make ppl explore the world a bit more till websites just post there finding...but  only giving radar to a ranger? come on...but spells if everyone has a short radar span to find resources is better..

And drawing symbols to cast spells sounds cool but  wouldn't work to well if you not hardcore and use binds for everything when pvping or even pve. So overall i would think about playing this mmo. =)
