To renew my interest in WoW...

OssilOssil Member UncommonPosts: 14

I simply want a new, PvP(or RP-PvP if it keeps the kiddies away) server with NO character transfer offers, EVER.  I would love a fresh start on an even playing field, without an eventual influx of level 80 characters who have been raiding for ages and have unlimited wealth.  I would also love to see a one character limit on this realm which I feel would help community.  Also, Blizzard would need to impose their initial 6 month ban on the Death Knight class for the sake of the economy.  I guess I just want the game to feel like it did pre Burning Crusade.

...Or I want another developer to match Blizzard's responsiveness, tightness, feel, or whatever term you want to use regarding the movement of my character and use of abilities.  I keep bouncing from MMO to MMO looking for a game where avatars feel and react like they do in WoW.  I guess it's Blizzard's limitless budget and superior programming?

I probably will just  wait on Blizzard's new MMO to get my fix.  I REALLY want Blizzard to create a sandbox game, but that will never happen.

Blizz will open new servers when Cataclysm releases.  My guess is four new PvE servers.

The best way to start over is with a new game. You also seem interested in PvP. I suggest Guild Wars 2. It's set to release at the end of 2010. It's going to have World v World PvP and 4 unique races that haven't been introduced in any other games besides Guild Wars. It's great if you're looking for a fresh start.

Past: Can never go back to Wow.
    Present: Nothing interesting out.
    Future: Looking forward to GW2.

Is the Cataclysm content going to cover 1-85 or 1-60 and then 80-85?

If the latter, then I wouldn't really even bother, because you're just going to end up hitting BC and Wot:K content where nobody will be and it will be boring all over again.

If not, then you're interest will probably be refreshed.

I am uncertain if I should renew my sub with Cataclysm, because Blizz has been dissappointing me with WoW for a while now.

  • tryklontryklon Member UncommonPosts: 1,370

Well, lorewise it seems to me that Cata will cover 1-60 and 80-85, simply because, Outlands is another planet, so it wont be affected by the cataclysm ofcourse, and northrend will be spared since its to far north to actually feel any damage even if it looks near on the map, northrend is the cap of the world, the north pole)

How were you ever NOT burned out by WoW?

I was burned out by WoW by the 5th hour of my free trial, because its just a very simple kiddie version of a game that had already been played to death.

Im not burned out of WoW and ill tell you why.

First of all, theres no other game with the overall quality of gameplay, responsiveness, skill and combat that wow has.

Second, that allows me to find a group for whatever, whenever i can be online, since I work until later than usual.

Third, that has a great guild and friends like ive met on this game over the years. (not saying other games dont have good people, they just dont have "this" people I know and am used to play.

And fourth, theres is no other game in wich an entire family would play together like mine does, I play with a brother, a nephew, my girlfriend, her sister and her father.

Tryklon, don't bother.  Some people bash WoW so that they can pretend they are elite.

WoW has the most complex and responsive combat of any MMO, even the new ones.

WoW's mobs have the best AI out, runners, mobs that heal each other, spell casters.

MMOs are games and you're never going to impress anyone sitting in your mommas basement playing games.

    DF Ai > WoW Ai

WoW mobs just stand there and attack until low hp  while df mobs use movement and also aren't as dumb as getting

kited over a wall edge as a range/caster type.  Agree though if you only compare alt-tabbing mmos

    Pi*1337/100 = 42

I don't think they will release any new servers, subscriber numbers are beginning to drop off and i don't think Cataclysm will gain any 'new' subscribers - if someone hasn't played the game in the last 5 years, an expansion isn't going to persuade them to play it.

Back to the OP, i have just come back after a 6 month break and to renew my interest i decided to play a class i've never played before - priest!  Am quite liking it even though there is a distinct lack of people in the low lvl zones, dungeon finder is good - although still same problems as always, ppl go afk at start, ppl random quit but at least low lvl players are tanking!!

The good thing with the new expansion is that even if you dont buy it, Azeroth and Kalimdor continents will be changed. In my opinion the main reason of this expansion is sub retention. The expansion adds replayability. And sub retention these days are hard and Blizzard needs to secure its big portion of the cake as much as it can. I believe this expansion will be the most successful expansion ever.

If Cata was any other expansion, I'd agree with you.

One of Cata's main focuses is to revamp the early zones; otherwise known as "the bits people see while on a free trial". At the moment, WoW's low level content is as lacklustre (or even more so) as other MMOs that have better graphics and (terrible pun incoming) a better "wow factor".

WoW's best content at the moment is at a fairly late stage. They bring that quality down to the noob level, let people test it for free, and I'd be willing to bet that it'll draw in some subs.

I am a guild leader in WoW, I have been leading the same guild for 4 years. Today marks the day I throw in the towel. At least till cata comes out and even still. I am really tired of the small amount of content being released at such a slow rate. Just kind of tiring. I know this is an old hat... but seriously don't come back to WoW now, wait till the x-pack and test the waters then.

Right now it simply is a broken pvp system and one major instance worth doing for a shot at the best gear IC and for those of you who have really good players and/or copious amounts of time... Heroic IC.

I am not hating or flaming just stating the tired truth... sad but true and now I am looking for something else to light my fire.

On a related note, what do you guys think is #2 to WoW in terms of combat quality?

DAoC fans have been asking for an "Origins" server for a very long time now with no avail.  I'm sure SWG people have been asking for a server that does not run NGE or CU and they're left out in the cold as well.  I'm sure there are countless other games that I don't know about that have a portion of their player base asking for some kind of roll back or redo, hell even call it a Mulligan image but I don't think any of them have really gotten it without going to some kind of "private server".

Who knows...  Maybe Blizzard will be more inclined to listen but I highly doubt it.  Best of luck with your request.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

I got burned out just because I played it for so long and it was my only MMO. I have basically ever other mmo now. What I do now is sub for one month for a game and then cancel and resub to another. Sure it is the constant 15/month instead of doing a 6 month package but i do not grow tire. In the past six months I have been doing Fallen Earth, Darkfal, Lotro, and Warhammer. Going back and forth will keep the longevitiy. I haven't played WoW since October but I will go back when CATA hits and then cancel whatever MMO I am playing at the time. I also have a life too =) I am sure you do too, as do many others on here.

They wont open any new servers.  All the servers they have opened after 2006 have a low population.  They need more players on these low pop servers.

Actually Moon Guard is pretty consisently high population to locked in my experience.   A few of the others are listed on Warcraft Realms as fairly well populated.   And those that aren't exactly well-served by submitters, so some of them could be fairly well populated.

So yeah, there are some low-pop servers.   But all of them?  After 2006?  No, I know that's not the case for at least one, and possibly a couple of others from actual experience on them.  Maybe for all the PVP servers, if you want to say that.
