Solid. I have wanted to hate htis game for two years, just disgusted with the community. I stepped into Beta ready to hate it.. and surrendered within an hour... Such a solid build that give all the freedom possible to the players. With a few patches, then only World of Starcraft can beat it.

I almost dismissed this game entirely before having a chance to check it out in the first Stress Test . Open Beta just solidified my love for this game.
I want to give Blizzard props for one thing that really pleasantly surprised me. They severely increased the death penalty a week or so ago, totally in opposition to the stated design all along that death shouldn't be too severe. In fact, one of the pop ups during the tutorial encourages you to take risks, because there isn't a large penalty for dying.
I was more than a little ticked off, because I have seen so many other mmorpgs make such fun killing changes a week or two before release, really souring the community to the game. Well, Blizzard listened and lessened the penalties (though still tougher than before) and revisited some other unpopular changes.
This really turned sentiment around and I was just relieved to see one company buck the trend of abandoning game design that made the game more fun at the last minute.
I was sincerely impressed with the game. Being a huge fan of the Warcraft series, I have to say Blizzard has held within the bounds of the universe they created and made it rock. I was seriously worried about the final product. I was afraid it could sink the series, not being a genre Blizzard is familiar with. I was wrong to worry. While WoW brings nothing too new to the genre it is a solid addition

I wanted to like this game a lot since I love Warcraft in general. The game itself is pretty decent.. but hardly anything ground breaking.. Nothing new nothing interesting.. Same ol same ol. Done it all before not intersted in doing it all over again under a new name.
I found that on the right servers the people were very friendly and didn't act live 12 year olds. On some of them the other players would stand there and watch you die rather than help.

I can see the point to the criticism, there is nothing revolutionary here as far as the basic game mechanics. However, I have to say that they have taken lessons learned from other games and done an excellent job at learning from those past mistakes. The result is a fun, balanced game with little downtime and less fealing of grind.
Where this game excels for me, beyond any other title, is world design and the way the quests are designed. For me, no other game can match the mood and sense of place I get in the zones in this game. No other mmorpg has come close to the sense of story one gets from a solo RPG as WoW does.
Maximum Fun, Minimum Frustration, Beautiful World, Excellent Story, Challange with out Grind. Many companies have tried to put all the same genre common elements together into a fun cohesive whole, but for me none have succeeded at doing so as well as Blizzard did with WoW.
BTW, I'm no Blizzard Fanboi, played a demo of Warcraft once, but that is the extent of my exposure to Blizzard before WoW. I almost passed on WoW entirely because I wasn't wild about the cartoonish look some screenshots seemed to portray. The game is actually very beautiful in game in a way screen shots can't capture. I find the world much more immersive than EQII. EQII is a good game and my "back up" choice if for any reason I sour on WoW, but WoW won my purchase, where EQII thus far has not.
After ST I was questioning myself to get it or not. However, now that I've played through the OB and got even farther than I did in the ST, I'm most likely going to pick up a copy. WoW was really fun this time around with the raids and with new and interesting people to meet.
One other thing that I'm also happy about WoW is that I don't feel that I have to grind to hurry and get the highest level possible, or to have the uberest gear for my level. Everything seems pretty laid back with a "do it at your own pace" atmostphere.
I look forward to seeing those whom I met in the OB in retail!
Im no RPer at all but i found the RP servers to be sooooo much better then the PvE or PvP servers. I had a great time on the RP server, i plan to play there in retail. I just repect them in chat and stick to the RP in chat which isnt hard and it makes the game so much more enjoyable without all the dudes.
I absolutely LOVED IT!!! I have been an EQ player for about 2 years and I will not be renewing my account for EQ once it expires.
I love the fact that you can do a lot of things on your own and that the game isn't about lvl grinding like everquest is. The PVP issues still need to be worked out and blizzard hasn't really revealed much about that because there are some issues as far as that is concerning. (ganking, griefing, etc.) but that is the only minor problem i found with the game and I will be definitely be playing it next week when it goes live.

If pvp bothers you play on a normal server where you flag yourself for pvp, no griefing.
To state it simply, I canceled my EQ2 pre order and pre ordered WoW..
I had no intentions of playing this game but the first ST changed my mind, I even joined Fileplanet, so I could have the extra days of play during the FST ..
The atmosphere throughout the world is very good, to me this game is like going to Disney Land when I was a kid..

That is why i said it is just a "minor" problem. I actually enjoyed the pvp server even though I got ganked a few times myself. It just got frustrating the very few times I could not get any backup to take care of the "problem". Guess the point I want to make about pvp is there has to be some other point to it other than just killing toons 10-15 lvls below you for fun. I will most likely try out a PVE server in retail also to see if I like that better.
Even though it sucks to get ganked, it is a rush to have to keep your eyes peeled while doing a quest knowing that the enemy may be lurking.....
I really had a great time in EQII, and that game is no way a bad choice...but i know that i'll be going for WoW. I too was concerned about the cartoonish feel of WoW, especially when i saw the first screenshots from EQII, but the graphics in WoW are just so much better...a REALLY good example of how higher polygoncount doesnt mean better graphics. Hehe first time i logged into EQ i had a flashback to the 1996 multimedia CD-roms, and that horrible horrible 3d-rendered graphics. Ofcourse this time its realtime, but still ugly IMO.
But in WoW, i really feel immersed in a fantasy-universe. The design and the use of colours is just friggin wonderful!
At first I loved this game. I got a an ST account through fileplanet and I was having a blast. After awhile my undead warlock got kind of stale to play so I decided to try some other races/classes. Unfortunately that feeling didn't leave. I'm not here to say WoW is a bad game, because it's not. It just doesn't seem to do it for me. Unfortunately I can picture myself getting tired of this game rather quickly. You never know though, I may end up buying it anyways....
Ive seen a few MMO's in my time, but ive never seen a game so polished at retail. Its a credit to Blizzard just how few bugs in the game there are. I got 2 characters into the mid-teens in the OB, and i cant remember finding a bug. Everything negative that happened could be put down too 2 things.
1) the b.net kiddies that hopefully leave in retail
2) the sheer number of people hammering the server, causing problems with the Auction House in particular.
3) i played server 9, which based on the forum posts was probably one of the most populated and the most likely to have the above 2 problems and even considering this i was more than happy with the OB.
There isnt anything revolutionary in WOW though, i dont really think Blizzard set out to create something that would revolutionise the genre - just to consolidate the great idea's of many games before it into an extremely solid, enjoyable, and appealing world. If thats what they intended then they should consider it an A grade at least. The only possible downside is the graphics, and thats been mentioned several times before. Id only give the graphics a B grade. There are at least 3 games of the top of my head with better graphics.
Unfortunately it seems i left a preorder for the collections edition a bit late, im tossing whether is should buy the vanilla box, or maybe wait a week once all the madness to die off, and hopefully pick up a collectors edition when retailers have reordered it. Id almost guarantee the servers to crash at least a couple times a day for the first week, and off course the newbie zones will be camped horribly, youll spend a good deal of your play time that first week, just running from point A to point B trying to find spare mobs that arent camped to hell.
P.S Is there a limit on the number of collectors edtions available? rather is there a fairly low limit?
I have been searching for another MMORPG to play since early last year, ever since Funcom ruined my Old game (Anarchy Online)
I had no idea how MMORPG's are so different as far as the quality, I went from EnB, Shadowbane, DAOC, Planetside, AC2, EVE, KO, COH(major dissapointment), SOR, SWG, ect... None of these games could give me that feeling that Anarchy Online did. The feeling that you kinda were actually in the game instead of playing it. The feeling that there was so much more to do then just killing MOB's and grinding all day. I was giving up hope fast and I told myself if Blizzard cant do it noone can, so maybe I should just go back to Xbox and PS2 games and wait a few years for this Genre to get better.
Well WOW has done the impossible for me, as a matter of fact I would even put it over Ancarchy Online now as the Best MMORPG I have ever played..No other game has felt this complete to me, no other game has as much to offer as far as things to do. Its simply a amazing game period, It just feels right and looks so great... I still can remeber how my mouth droped the first time I entered IRONFORGE, that has to be the best made city I have ever seen in a MMORPG...But Blizzard didnt stop there they made a damn subway system for the damn thing.... Man to think this is only the beggining of WOW, patches and expansions will just add so much more to this already complete well rounded game.
Anyways I can careless how people dont like the game, I guess its that different strokes type of thing.. But for me its my new home, a home that I have been trying to find for over a year now...A home that is ever better then my last...

Definately a good game. I wasn't impressed at first, because when you start you just pop...ok, go kill stuff. But whatever, kept going and had a pretty good time. There are a lot of things that WoW has that EQ2 didn't do that I like. How dead player bodies float in the water was way cool to me. When you emote a laugh or type "lol" they actually laugh. That was a huge addition and I will miss it forever, unless I buy this game. And how the characters animate hand motions when you are talking to each other is very nice. And how my shaman swung his staff around in an almost ful circle to whack people in the head was priceless. THWACK!!
I won't talk about any of my negative opinions since I am a EQ2 "fanboi" and am breaking the rules by not staying out, but it was definately worth the huge mega 733T download to get into this game. I am positive that many many a player will get sucked right into this one.

To this games credit it has done the impossible. World of Warcraft has won over my friend who has been anti mmo for as long as I've known him. I was over at his place, lanning, when I poped on the blizzards websight and noticed that the OB had started. After a bit of convincing I got him to get an acount and before long he was hooked. ONly just the other day I poped over only to find him asleep at his keyboard with his hunter standing at the griffen roost in menithl harbor. LOL. Now, not only is he buying the collectors edition, but he's also buying a 6 month subscription.

OMG, that is exactly how I feel, man. It was like the void- that EQ had left in me for years, as I wandered through the MMO worlds searching- was suddenly just GONE! I didn't even get to all that high of a level, the highest level character I had was 14, and I couldn't stop having fun. No matter what I was doing, be it PVP raiding, xp-ing, crafting, goofing off with my friends, whatever.
I actually had one night where I was hanging out in Stormwind, doing some quests and figured I'd drop a line in the water and fish for a few minutes. My friend and I wound up just standing on a bridge above the canals for about 3 hours fishing and talking and it was still hella fun.
WoW ftw!!!
Otto!
I'm looking for some friends that I lost contact with over the years...

LOL ... I work with a guy (pretty good friends) who has never ever been willing to play a game that requires a monthly fee. He was a huge MUD fan for many years and has only been playing games such as Doom etc unwilling to break the mold and jump into the MMO world. I talked him into at least giving the open beta a shot, hell he had nothing to loose. Needless to say I talked to him yesterday and asked him so what do you think. He said, well I will be buying the game along with a 6 month subscription.
I have been extremely leary of purchasing WoW for awhile now, origanlly it was due to the "cartoonish" look I thought it had by screenshots I had seen, however now I would say the game is just plain "colorful" and beautiful than cartoonish. Back to what I was leary about, it all came down to PR for me. I have yet to find a game that I was pleased with PR, and WoW was the same up until I got into a few situations in the open beta. I had extremely good interactions with the GM's and renewed my faith in a companys PR. I still do not care for how they use words to describe time frames so loosly, I realize there can be unpredictables in these games, but as a paying customer you come to expect a defiinte answer. With that said however, I think the games solidity, gameplay and many other things I could list will outweigh the vaguness that Blizzard is known to use. I had decided to preorder it about a week and half ago now and look forward to playing.
There are still some extreme balance issues concering PvP in my opinion. Crowd control needs to work different than it currently does in PvP, this would lead to problems in the PvE aspect of the game however. THey maybe need to look at having seperate code for those two types of servers, I don't know what else they could do with this. I'll give a example of unskilled type of PvP due to crowd control skills available.
Yesterday I watched a lvl 21 warlock duel a lvl 21 paladin in goldshire. The warlock could almost contionusly fear the paladin sending him running while he casted on him, the only thing the paladin could do is heal himself and start running towards the warlock only to be feared once again, rinse and repeat. As I see things now strictly melee type characters such as warriors are extremely hampered in PvP due to crowd control such as fear, sleep, stuns and roots. To me the set up is mindless and unskilled PvP. I am placing some faith into Blizzard on this over time here to try and get this balanced better sometime soon.
Other than what I stated above this game is a great game, extremely friendly to the casual gamer and will attract many many people and should have a long time running. See you all in retail.
"I see things now strictly melee type characters such as warriors are extremely hampered in PvP due to crowd control such as fear, sleep, stuns and roots."
Those are solid strategies for all ranged attackers in most MMO games. Never let a melee player get close or basically your dead. In saying that though, it has been posted several times that Casters have an advantage atm, im sure they'll attempt a bit more balancing. Lets hope they get it pretty reasonable. Blizzard has often been accused of favouring magic users ive read, dunno how much truth in that there is.

EQ: Horlain (Firiona Vie)
DAOC: Kaizur (Guinevere)
