There are FOUR realms, and FOUR races in each realm. In essence, there are actually only FOUR races. ONE race for each realm. Undead, Human, Forest (Treeants), and Greenskin (Goblins). Each race though, can betray to the other realm, thus slightly changing their race. (Humans betraying to Forest becomes Elves. Goblins betraying to Undead become Imps.)
Some are decided races, some are debatable/changable. I put some in italics, which I would like your input on which is cooler in your opinion, such as would you rather play as a Zombie or a Vampire? In bold ending in ???'s is not a very concrete idea for a race.
Thank you for any input, opinion, or even on-topic discussion "I'd love to see [this] race in an MMORPG." or "I think [this] race is stupid, because of [this reason].
Please provide reasons for any criticsms or better ideas.
Thank you.
Italics- Which one would you like better?
Bold- Any better ideas for this race?

Splitting the playerbase has many problems. Also:
-What are the benefits of this system compared to a traditional race system?
-How will you use it?

The system for choosing a race sounds cool.
As for picking a favorite, for me it's going to be purely based on the in-game presentation of each race as well as their capabilities. Just handing me a list of race names isn't really sufficient (although vampires or devils sounds potentially interesting, mostly because the name alone infers some special capabilities.)
I do agree with Quirhid that 4-factions can have some issues, but depending on the game's featureset it might not be a big deal.

Although there will be 4-realm PvP battles/scenarios, I think a lot of plans are going to be going into 1v1 realm matches or perhaps 1v1 + 1 Extra.
By extra, I mean something similar to a PvP scenario like this:
Undead vs Humans, Extra (Goblins)
Undead- Kill Humans
Humans- Kill Undead
Goblins- Take Treasure, Loot, and Get away kills don't matter.
In essence, there can be two winners, or two losers- as the goblins win or loss in an entirely different victory set than the Undead/Humans, while those two only have one way of victory.
If Undead kills Humans AND fends off Goblins (thus keeping the treasure) they get a large bonus.
This way PvP scenarios or non-real-world PvP or Competitive instances can be anywhere between 1v1, 1v1v1, 1v1v1v1, 2v2, or 1v1 w/extra.
Plenty of Potential.
Plus the eventual idea to combine realms (Forest + Humans) vs (Undead + Goblins) or just only having 2 or 3 realms. Also, the possibility of allowing non-pvp to be cooperative and allowing all the realms to play together in the open world (or not) similar to Everquest, but to have PvP zones or Instances. I don't know, but lots of possibilities to try to limit the negatives of splitting populations to 4 realms.
Of course, yes the original idea is to have all 4 separate, 4 realms, and to allow them to fight each other EVERYWHERE, whether it's 1v1 at a time or 1v1v1v1.
Undead Realm
Primary Race: Skeletons

Vampire- "I vant to suck your blood!" Paralyze, Life-Drain (Damage/Heal)
Bat Form- Transform into Bat, Escape % Speed, % Stealth, Flying
Forest betray: Abomination (Treeant turned into mossy-abomination) or Spooky Treeant (barren, with a scary face)?
"SPOOK!" # Second Cast Time- Large AoE Fear Effect

"Fire From Hell" AoE Fire Damage

I think your choices of factions are a bit bland, but other than that it's decent enough.
Primary race for undead should be something cooler than skeletons though, I'd suggest Vampires instead. Probably wouldn't go with Treants either as a base race, but that's personal preference.
Oh, and I wouldn't have an even number of factions, I'd go with 5 or 7. This can lead to imbalances instead of a stalemate.
Factions bland? Are you joking?
Maybe Greenskin / Humans, but an entire faction devoted to Undead things and Forest things, and the ability to play as giant races (Troll, Giant, Treeant, Giant Mushroom) is a big deal in MMORPG's where the last time we were able to play a giant race was in Everquest 1 where the Ogre/Troll was "larger" than the others, but barely.
Treeants, I'm thinking of them being x2 the height of humans. Same for Trolls/Giants/Mushrooms.
Pixies, Imps, Goblins, and Dwarves- very small. Not large pixies like EQ2's Fae, or 3/4ths size dwarves like some big dwarves.
Actually, I hate dwarves. I think Hobbits would be a lot cooler than dwarves.
NORMAL GOBLINIZED UNDEAD NATURE
Human Orc Zombie Elf
Halfling Goblin Imp Pixie
Giant Troll Abomination Treeant
Vampire ?????? Skeleton ??????
Ummm I'm sorry to ask this but what game is this for?
Sorry, I can't divuldge any information on this. But if you're going to read it and post, we would like your answers to the questions asked.
No, I'm not kidding. You've picked factions that are rather conventional and often what I'd consider to be among the default for a fantasy game. Maybe you might add some character with details, but your base choices? Nothing I've not seen in spades before.
Size itself isn't a "big" issue, if anything it'll be an annoyace as often as not.
Nothing sucked more than having to manually dismount every time I wanted to enter a building playing as a tauren on a mammoth in WoW =
Uneven numbers of factions is definitely the way to go, four would just end up in a 2v2 situation much like a 1v1 game. 3 or even better 5 factions allows for smaller factions to team up to beat the larger ones, solving alot of population imbalance issues.
Undead I would say vampires over zombies and I am not sure anybody would want to play a spooky or mossy treant, spooky would be better though. Maybe a banshee or lich might be more fun.
Werewolves are in fashion along with vampires atm, so that would be a good choice for the human realm.
For the forest realm maybe some form of ghost, like a spirit Dryad slightly transparrent with leaves and vines wrapped around them.
Troll for the Greenskin faction, and some sort of ghoul, or flesh eating undead, thin with long clawlike hands, that has joined the Greenskins.
Just my thoughts though.
Warcraft 3 much?
