There have been no message on the official forums yet (although a message was posted last week saying that this announcement is just around the corner). Various websites like Amazon and Play.com have expansion launch dates set to 1th and 14th og May.  These dates are probably entirely correct, but probably based on some guideline (wherever that came from). So I would say expansion is out mid to end of May.

    The Ultimate Breakdown

  • haratuharatu Member UncommonPosts: 409

Based upon expansion content being introduced in last patch you can probably expect the expansion within the next 3 months. The current expansion content finishes in 32 days (from this post) so the expansion is unlikely to be within the next 32 days.

What happens when those 32 days are up? your guess is as good as mine.

The absolute best aspect of Funcom has always been PR and it's ability to successfully hype their games. If the new expansion was coming out in 3 months then I promise you that FC would already have begun driving their Hype-Train. I predict that the expansion will going Live sometime mid-September, providing no more problems arise.

I disagre with you. They have promissed that the expantion will be out in H1 somw thats before 30june.

There are exciting times ahead, with the 1.07 update, complete with the new PVP feature – ‘The Shrines of Bori’ – coming to the live servers (hopefully next week) and the expansion just around the corner, the world is about to get a lot bigger with expanding horizons and we are all anxiously preparing to see what you al

Yes, and we ALL know that FC is famous for keeping their promises.
I really hope that the expansion comes out in 3 months but I seriously doubt it. FC cannot afford to release an expansion that has anything missing or is bug-ridden. People will rip the company apart if they do because of the fiasco with the game launch of AOC. If the release date was coming soon then they would have said "Sometime this spring" or "Early Summer for a release" but instead they said "Just around the corner". That is PR speak for "It will be awhile yet for the release but try to stay excited about it"

According to CompuExpert, who is the exclusive North american distributor, ROTGS will be released on May 11th 2010.

This information was released yesterday (April 16th) and has not yet been confirmed by FunCom..

has any game site did a hands on preview yet? Has here been any closed beta? I know that at a game conferance a month or so ago Funcom did a "demonstration" but would not let journelists take to the keyboard themselves which seemd odd to me. I still recall the pre release siege "demonstration" that they did several months before the AoC release which turned out to be a load of manure. As far as I am concerned I would not hold my breath until gaming journalists get a real hands on preview. Up to then it is simply Funcom marketing vapor.

closed beta is out for aprox 2 or 3 months.

  • ShadewalkerShadewalker Member Posts: 299

Funcom have just announced the retail box arrangements and the closed beta is running so far as I'm aware (I got invited and was told how to access it but haven't done so). My best guesstimate would be that the expansion will be launched around the end of May or beginning of June, but I suspect a firm date will be announced pretty soon now.

I think twice that from some developer comments back late last year.

There will be some new media coming for the expansion soon.

I remember I read that someone got invited to the beta on another forum in October 2009, so the CB has been going on for at least 6 months already.  I hear 11th May from several sources but I remain sceptical until a gold announcement has been made.

  • JackdogJackdog Member UncommonPosts: 6,321

Going gold? The only reason to go gold is if they are pressing CD's.  If so who is the publisher? A quick check on Amazon, Game Stop, and Best Buy turned up zilch. Are you sure this isn't just going to be a digital download from FC?

Beta has been accessable by invite since early this year.

The game has had a pre-expansion quest line called 'The Silver Atrium". That closes mid May.

Summer holidays in northern hemisphere starts May/June.

Based upon these known facts then the expansion will probably be released (as stated above) late May to June.

Thanks for the link. That is interesting, but  still does not answer who the publisher is or why no retail outlets are accepting orders or even have the game listed if the expansion is less than a month away.

    edit:

Ok found a box version pre order at Play.com, release date is stated to be 11/05/2010. That would mean May 11 th correct?

so  are box versions just available for Europeans then ?

The following is just guesses based on previous read publically released info:

Retail Box versions will be available. For sure in Europe and 99% certain rest of world.

Current publisher for the retail box version is Deep Silver. A Division of KOCH Media, Deep Silver is a consortium of European developers.

Published titles under their belt include: Risen, Sacred 2, EverQuest II The Shadow Odyssey, Stalker,  Warhammer Blood Bowl, to name a few.

As per box print, includes 30 days game time, The original up to date AoC client, The expansion, some in game stuff

There may be a different rest of world publisher. There may not.

There will most likely be a digitial download version available from places like Direct2Drive and Steam in the future.

The only official release date that has been given is an aim for the first half of 2010.

There has not been a mass of publicity ala Age of Conan because Funcom openly admitted to have taken a different approach with Rise of the Godslayer to negate previous cause for concerns as brought up.

Expect lots more media to promote the expansion over the 2/3 months.

Play.com is only selling it for 18 quid, that is not much more than one months subscription.

Godslayer has been in development for 16 months already.

Looked into it a bit and Deep Silver uses Southpeak http://www.edge-online.com/news/deep-silver-strikes-us-distribution-deal  as a North American distributor. All of this tells us that the expansion is still several months away. As you pointed out since they will be doing a boxed version it will be first listed on major game outlets and there will be a heavy advertising campaign preceeding the release. Since it is mid April now so I would guess that late July or early August would be the earliest release if the management decided today that it was ready for release. 60 to 90 days as you pointed out to seal the deal with retail outlets and grar up advertising.

Since you pointed out that RoTG has been in production for 16 months I will say I think it is a good thing that they are taking thier time. A successful release it will do Funcom a world of when TSW releases, a poor one will reenforce the perception that FC releases buggy and ill thought out products. I will go out on a limb and say I will probably purchase the expansion a month or so after it's release if it recieves good press just to take a look see around the new areas.

Play.com had release date at 14mai and now it is 11mai. Amazon say 11mai to.  http://www.compuexpert.com/

That is Funcom distributor in North America has the text 11mai running in the video. Under is ref that say Funcom is working with the company.

    http://www.funcom.com/wsp/funcom/frontend.cgi?func=publish.show&func_id=1395&table=CONTENT&item=1004

The game will be finish long before 2-3months from now. 11mai can be a bit to hard, but still not impossible.  The game might be in the press allready and you get at patch to fix the last bugges when you logg on. The price is brilliant for all you Funcom haters. 18pounds(25-27 dollars) is not mutch including 30days playtime. This expantion has been under beta testing a werry long time allready aas we all know. Dont forget they had a 1hour live show of expantion with beta testers 7desember  over 4 months ago.

    http://www.xfire.com/cms/xf_tnss/

The first 5-10min is them prepearing the liveshow, sow chil for a few min.

when I do a search on Amazon.com it shows nothing for RoTG

    http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=rise+of+the+godslayer&x=0&y=0

same with Gamespot, Best Buy, and Walmart. If you could provide a link to any US retailer offering pre orders I would appreciate it.

Well the CompuExpert page lists RotGS expansion release as May 11th.

We'll see if boxes come out then for North America.

went over to the Compuexpert site and looks like they only secured the deal last week.

Three weeks till May 11th, my bet would be no. I could be wrong but I would say it would at least require more time than that to set everything up. Summer game releases never do well anyway, contrary to popular belief most gamer like to do other things in nice weather..
