I am conducting a small survey to see what people think of PLAYING AS different player races.
It's a simple and short survey, 33 races, rating each of them on a scale of 1 (hate) to 5 (love)

It's kinda of hard to give a fair evaluation based on a simple description, at least for some of those races. Not that I've ever ever ever been fond of rating things on a scale, but that's me, not you.
Plus a lot of it would depend on the specific mechanics involved. I'm not afraid to admit I'm not above power-gaming.

For myself,i can play ANY race,i am not concerned with cosmetic at all,i prefer to see what each race offers in a game.FFXI was done so well,i have no problem playing ANY race or ANY class.Other games i can kind of say the same thing for what they offer in that particular game.
I guess if i did have to force an answer,i would like a race that is put in proper perspective.Example it would feel silly if i was playing a smallish race and it had the most hit points,or a gigantic race and it had the weakest offense/weakest defense,there is that part of a game ,that i like to keep realistic.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Hell, playing a Centaur in a high-fantasy setting would be just awesome. If it was properly implemented that is... They'd need to re-do the whole mount mechanic then, because if you'd move just like another player it would be no fun.
Mount&blade-style anyone..? Of course I am a sucker for elves and dwarves though, that is depending on the settings. And properly done demons would be divine to play, though again they'd have to be "more powerful"

A Centaur would be fun. I would love to play a Thark or Phraint in a mmorpg.
When I saw human/octopus hybrid at the end, I immediately thought of something like a Mind Flayer or Cthulhu. HELLS YES PLEASE!
Gave all elves the lowest vote. Can't stand elves in any game, sick to death of them.

The only race I could say without a doubt that I would never play would be a damn nasty dwarf. Must be my love for dark elves showing.

Assuming these questions are aimed at a fantasy magic/swords type mmo?
There are some races that I wouldn't mind playing in a more apporpriate setting, but didn't feel they were good choices for a typical fantasy mmo.
Ignore him, he's just being silly.
Personally, I like the Kheldians from City of Heroes. You can become a floating squid or a giant lobster-man as well as being a humanoid.
So maybe you shoulda added shape shifters to the list?
Edit: Also robots, some people like to be robots.
centaurs were in in Shadowbane, one of the best races actually:)
Like the choices, except the Mushroom thing, not sure I could take it serious. I liked the idea of the undead as well as dragon and Demon choices.
Here are the results, surveymonkey gave 100 views and I can't see anyhthing past that even though there were 111 results.

I will now be switching to a better survey website, upload images to all the races (Character Design) and see if the results turn out differently when given vivid imagery. This will take awhile, but will be worth seeing the differentiation.
You might want to put them into visual form with a spreadsheet, and when you put up the survey again, include some text-based descriptions of the races. 2-3 sentences perhaps. Unless you added those after I looked at it, in which case, good show there!
Demons and werewolfs seems to be the most popular races. Those were my top choices aswell.. they seem to lack as races in MMO's though, maybe thats the reason so many wanna play them, or maybe its just because they are so fucking badass
The only MMO i know about that had close to a demon race was AoC with the HoX, Human race but could transform into a badass looking demon for a few minutes at a time. to bad it wasnt a permanent form
Werewolfes are coming in wow though, lucky them
But they are nice wereworlfes... on the aliiance side, how lame.
