Just got game: why can't i not be a villian?

so this game, the architect version, did not have a manual with it so i am lost...why can i not make a villian? i want to make one but when I log in I am giving no options for it. what gives?

You should have the option to be a villain or a hero when you create a new character, if not then Idk if the architect version lets you make villains since its just called city of heroes, which doesnt make sense tho, might wanna just call ncsoft or contact them or something, or maybe do more research on the Architect edition. To tell you the truth until Going rogue comes out I see no reason for making villains. The villain side of CoX is so unpopulated its hard to find other players last I played on the virtue server. Villain and Hero side have the same costume options though so if you just want to look dark and ominious, you can still be a hero.

 You can be both hero or villian in it. I am not given any choice. Now another thing....I logged in with my first toon, hero obviously, and I changed my resolution. I had to exit the game for it to work. I sign in, click on my hero, and I can't log in! th "log into paragon city" does not work...i cannot do anything at all...wtf?!

That's definitely odd behavior.  My first piece of advice would be to check the "start in safe mode" box that you should see on the launcher window that pops up.  At that point, you'll likely want to let it run through the file manfiest verifying all of the files.  Then see if you can 1.) create villains (which you should) and 2.) get into the game.

Really are on the wrong forum for tech support.

CoH gets CoV by default, has for years now.  Your install is clearly fucked.  On character creation you choose Hero Villain, then Mutant/Science etc, then Class, Primary, Secondary then body, then costume if memory serves.

If in doubt use the CoVupdater.exe instead of CoHupdater.exe in the prog folder.

Not directly related but there was also an ATi driver release for Win7/Vista with broken OpenGL support that borked CoX.

 Nvidia has struggled with their drivers as well although they have improved as of late.  Occasionally I still get a "display has stopped working" message.
