GameStation Legally Claims 7,500 Human... Souls!

ZoomOver the last few weeks, there have been reports that the UK's GameStation, a video game retailer, legally owns more than 7,500 souls thanks to a clause secretly added to its online terms and conditions. The company said that--during a sale at the beginning of April--88-percent of the customers neglected to read the entire clause, while the remaining 12-percent caught on to the scheme and opted out of the soul-selling deal.

Those who refused to sell their soul received a gift voucher.

The clause originally started as an April Fool's joke, however the company quickly noticed that consumers just weren't spending time reading the conditions. In reality, most consumers skip the entire book-length legal mumbo-jumbo and head straight for the product and application. This particular experiment shows that sometimes that could be a very bad thing.

"By placing an order via this Web site on the first day of the fourth month of the year 2010 Anno Domini, you agree to grant us a non transferable option to claim, for now and for ever more, your immortal soul," the clause originally read. "Should We wish to exercise this option, you agree to surrender your immortal soul, and any claim you may have on it, within 5 (five) working days of receiving written notification from gamesation.co.uk or one of its duly authorized minions. We reserve the right to serve such notice in 6 (six) foot high letters of fire, however we can accept no liability for any loss or damage caused by such an act."

GameStation said that it is currently sending out notices announcing that it has no intentions in cashing in on consumer souls, thus nullifying its legal ownership... or so it says. "
