EA is not making a Wheel of Time MMO, Red Eagle Games and Obsidian Entertainment in partnership are. The game is going to be distributed through the EA Partners Program, so they will be acting as distributor / publisher only.
How many times have we heard this? Vanguard. PotBS.
This thing is/was fucked before the first line of code gets written.
Elaborate. Do you believe the EA Partner's program is enough to "fuck" this game over? Because all I have stated are simple facts, whether me, you or anything else like it or not. Nor did I make any value judgements on whether the game would be good or not, because honestly no one, including you with your crystal ball, know yet.
Use your head, man.
I can guaran-damn-tee you, with my crystal ball (which I have looked to for confirmation), that this game is doomed already. Have you fully read the press release? They're developing it for ALL major consoles, PC, and cellphones. Anyone care to ballpark a development cycle for all that? An MMO. For all of those platforms. That is a SHIT-TON of operating costs that I sincerely doubt this studio can afford. But hey, guess who's there to back them up? Why, it's EA! EA buys the studio, runs the thing into the ground, and people come back to me and kiss my ass because I have a motherfuckin' crystal ball.

The end.
The studio is developing multiple video games on all platforms, including an MMO for the PC, not an MMO for all platforms. The studio is also part of a larger media operation which will develop the the TV shows and at least one movie with Universal Studios- I suppose EA is going to buy them up to. But you're right- developing games is hard work- which is why the new studio has contracted with Obsidian Entertainment (NWN2, KOTORII, Fallout New Vegas, and Alpha Protocol) to help them develop them. But partnering with EA through the EA Partners program (which is a distribution agreement, not a development one) is not the death knell of anything. Whether the games will be any good or not will rest squarely on Red Eagle, its partners, and its management team.
I have no problem with LOTRO, in fact I play it. The problem with Jordan's work is just what you said. Its not new. Its generic fantasy. The reluctant hero, a model of perfection. Just like the heroes of LOTR. Hey, that was cool all those years ago, but now fantasy as evolved. Culture has evolved. I enjoy reading about heroes who may not be true heroes. They don't always forgive. Sometimes they do morally improper things to get the job done. Sometimes you don't know who the real bad guy is(Fire and Ice and Black Company). That's real life.
Amazingly, what you just described is Rand al'Thor.

Come to think of it, that's right. As the books go on that is.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
These are just two that would be ten times better than TWOT series full of lore and vast amounts of history and conten with the books spanning 1000s of years

Just goes to show, opinions are varied. I found the 2 above book series mentioned, trite and boring compared to TWOT. Guess it's all about flavor anymore. We can't really argue about the flavor of tomatoes or other foods since it's a personal taste issue. Same goes with entertainment I suppose.
Although EA is doing all right on the DRM front, for the most part, I am not really interested in a MMO from them. They seem prone to yank servers at the slightest opportunity, and the way they shift battleford to F2P just seemed extremely messy.
parrotpholk-Because we all know the miracle patch fairy shows up the night before release and sprinkles magic dust on the server to make it allllll better.

I'll have to agree with Elocke here.
I read Magician and though it was ok for when I read it but really coudn't continue the series as It wasn't very enjoyable to me.
I did enjoy Faerie Tale which is another Feist book.
Though as I grew older my taste for fantasy books dwindled. After sophmore year the only two series that I found I could read were Jordan's books and Tad Williams' Memory, Sorrow and Thorn series.

Yeah it's all about what each person likes but like i said their are better authors than all three of them, meaning Robert as well.
If you really want to talk about Authors then i would mention Robin Hobb

All of these Authors leave Robert Jordan standing. Many people would not of heard of most of them but believe me,they are speacial and write real grown up Fantasy. So my point is their are better worlds to make RPG and mmorpg than Robert Jordan who losts his way around the 5th book.
You said it's all about what each person likes but then go on to say that Robert Jordan sucks for lack of a better term. You could say you don't enjoy his style, but to say he is dwarfed by all those writers, who I personally found to verbose and wordy and their writing styles didn't flow or move how I would like them to, is just opinion.
There is a reason they are doing the TWOT books into games, movies etc. Whether you like JOrdan or not, the books are huge bestsellers worldwide. Now, that doesn't mean those other "worlds" can't be optioned into games or movies, and I would gladly like to see them in other mediums and would back that up even though I don't like the author's per se. Basically because I want more Fantasy options(besides MMORPGS of course ;D) that are on par with Lord of the Rings movies and not the Eragon movie. See the quality difference there?
And Yes, I am being a total Robert Jordan Fanboi. I usually don't fanboi many products on these forums, but by golly, I found the TWOT books some of my favorite book series ever! I just relate so much to the character and I love all the little nuances that make up the whole picture that you start to see the more you read.

Nope i didn't say he sucked, did i? What i said is IMO his books are overated and really don't go anywhere after the 5th-6th 7th blah blah book, see my point, the books begfin to get tedious. Many people would agree with me,it's a well know fact that he lost his way some where along the way.

Again, i am sorry you took my meaning the wrong way and i am glad you liked TWOT series. One thing we can agree on is their is nothing like a great fantasy novel to suck you in and away from this world, even though their are many great mysterys here on earth.
