Just a girl searching for a good MMO!

I have played several MMO's over the past few years. I am just getting so bored with games after only a few levels.

I have played several MMO's over the past few years. I am just getting so bored with games after only a few levels.

I started with SWG, loved the fact that I it wasn't quest grinding and I could go off and do my own thing, when I got tired of PVP. I could have my own shop, craft things and just go exploring. Also loved it was a very social game; I met lots of people and was pretty well known on my server.

Then WOW came out, my whole guild all my friends left SWG for WOW (No surprise) so I followed as well. I hated every moment of WOW but stuck it out because all my friends played. I played WOW for almost 3 years straight from the day of release.... I got so sick and tired of that game. I got tired of level a character then raid, got bored with very few raids, and then I would level another. Soon I was the first person in my guild to have 5 level 60s (When the cap was 60) but it was just mindless, so people if they had a question on the game or quests, they didn't go to Thottbot anymore, they just asked me. I was the living thought bot. Sucked and I hated that there was no unique aspect to the game. It sucked. I went back a few times, after new Expansions, played a level or two, got bored stopped again. I now vowed I will never play the game again as long as I live.

So really, I am just in need of a game, which allows me to have a bit more freedom. I don’t' mind going out grinding for items or gold, and having to work for what I want in a game, similar to SWG. You couldn't just start the game and be a pro, it took time, took meeting people and gaining connections. I just hate quests; I hate being told where to go and what to do to get items. I hate killing 10 rats, then go back to the same rats and kill until a "so-called" item drops. There is nothing fun in that for me. I don't mind a mission here or there, but hate having to follow anything.

Games I have tried

SWG - So far was one of the best games I have played but will never be the same :(

WOW - Stupid and should just break forever!

RF Online - Lame

Vanguard Saga of Heroes - Lame

LOTRO - Fun but slowly got board, it’s the questing - Off and One a few times

Guild Wars - Only did a few day trial but again hate quests

DnD Online - Played Beta, didn't like, tried again since free, got bored

Aion - Fun, like to fly, but sick of questing

Perfect World - cheesy

AOC - loved the game, Fan of Robert E. Howards, played open beta and during release, beginning ruined the game with all the issues - Off and on a few times.

I was thinking of trying Mortal Online, but I don't know if I will like FPS. I am awful at them, I can't aim for crap and it gets me all confused.

So really, if anyone actually took the time to read this, any ideas or suggestions on a game you think I may like let me know. I love good graphics, but even if the graphics are not the greatest, don’t bother me much.

Just need some help finding a good game to play :)

your text comes up as black on black. Highlight it and make it white.

And to answer your question, since you liked Aion but hated questing, might I suggest Lineage 2.

At this point you really will need to join a good clan (and if you are a U.S. player I highly recommend Phoenix server) but it's a great game.

The only advice I would give is to (lol) actually do the starter area quests as they have changed them to give enourmous amounts of xp.

this is to boost players up a bit.

Otherwise it really isn't a quest game and in some ways you will be challenged to find quests if you were a quester.

Ryzom isnt a quest based game, though will have to do a few to get off the starting area.  but after that you'll never have to quest if dont want to. theres a 21 day trial so you should try it, you might end up liking it.

    +1.

That is exactly right, and we're not saying NO to save WoW, because it is already a lost cause. We are saying NO to dissuade the next group of greedy suits who decide to emulate Blizzard and Cryptic, etc.
We can prevent some of the future games from spewing this crap, but the sooner we start saying no, the better the results will be.
So - Stand up, pull up your pants, and walk away.

personaly i dont think you'll like MO. it's a full loot pvp mmo that is always in first person view. there is very little to do besides making weappons/armor and killing other players. there are no quests, no levels, no dungoens, no land control,  basicly no pve except building a house that just sitts there. pretty much what everyone does is steals stuff and kill other players. it is also extremely buggy at the moment almost in a pre-beta stage really. if you'r curious download the free beta now and try it wile it's free.

Not sure what to tell you besides it seems like you'r getting a bit burned out of mmos. hopefully FF14 will capture your attention when it comes out but untill then it seem like you'v tryed most of the good stuff already and are still looking for more.

Yeah this is the reason why I haven't tried MO yet. I know it will be super buggy, and seems Game Companies are becomming more and more like Politicians, Lots of Empty Promises they don't intend to keep!

Sadly aside from my Wii stuff, my better half can't stand video games let alone MMOs, so I can't give you an educated answer. I did however stumble upon THIS earlier today, but unfortunately it's not scheduled for release until the second half of 2010.

    HERE is their site.

Who knows how things will turn out, but maybe it'll at least give you something to look forward to.

I think you answered your own post a bit

AOC - loved the game, Fan of Robert E. Howards, played open beta and during release, beginning ruined the game with all the issues - Off and on a few times.

If you loved the game just didnt like the technical start on launch try it again. The game polish has changed a great deal and alot of content has been added to the upper lvls to fill in the "gaps" that were there before. The game itself is very stable and visually beautiful, DX10 games are hard to pass up right now. The cartoon aspect of WoW just wares you down and the beauty of games like AoC, LotRO, and Aion are a breath of fresh air.

After gaming for so many years the only thing that I have found to hold my attention in games is the Lore. If your a Howards fan then your already in a good mind set to love the AoC storyline. I would try it again and see what you think. Just stay away from the AoC forums the ranting from old players can bring the game down but there is a whole journey to the end that could be fun.

The other option is to just hold out for Final Fantasy you should be able to hit all the aspect that your looking for. Title known to be a grinder but with quest support. Complete crafting aspect to the game, skill based not level based game model. All wrapped up in a beautiful game design.

Unfortunately, there have only been a small handful of quality MMORPG's that fit your gaming persona and liking.. Those being the original Everquest, Dark age of Camelot, Ultima Online, SWG, and Vanguard.. Unfortunately, those games are either dead or on life support now...

MMORPG's nowadays are more of a reptetive neverending rollercoaster ride that gets boring simply because game companies nowadays only care about making as much $$$ as possible short term, and then fire most of the dev's when the game starts to lose subs.. Then a small team is left to just sit around babysitting the game watching it slowly die day after day until it's time for the company to pull the plug....

But If you have that mmorpg itch and really want some advice on a game to try, I'd recommend checking out Everquest 2.. I understand you don't like questing and I'm sure the Title may make you cringe, but the game really has many of the aspects and features you would probably enjoy..  Fame and fortune does not come easy.. It's a social interacting group oriented game that takes time and alot of effort to achieve your goals. There are a ton of dungeons, awesome content, and the community makes the game that much more fun,,, depending on what server you play on... I'd recommend Antonia Bayle since it's the official RP server and most of the people I met are good and nice gamers.

I played the game off and on for about 3 years which is the second longest I've ever played a MMORPG next to Everquest 1...  There is a free trial you can download to see if it grabs you and pulls you in.. If it does, then great, if not then well I apologize ahead of time. :)

You can always just hang out here with us... lamenting the past and cursing the future... game wise that is...

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

I wouldn't even try MO. It still needs a lot of work and I mean a lot.

I would recommend Darkfall if you are looking for something different. Maybe Lineage 2.

entropia universe is probavbly your best bet but the chalenge curve is pretty steep you got to learn to manage very fast

  • KenFisherKenFisher Member UncommonPosts: 5,035

I'd suggest looking into Ryzom.  I've heard it very different from the normal quest-grinder.

Probably second would be Fallen Earth (did I get that name right?).  Just the change in scenery might make it a bit more interesting.

At the moment, the MMO market seems to be glutted with "not quite finished" and/or "not very interesting".  Good luck finding something that is both. (not intended as sarcasm, I really hope you can find something good)

If you just want to socialize and build a house or something Wurm online is always a treat. Free to play or you can sunscribe to be able to gain more skills later on. I don´t play it anymore but I had some good times there. If you can handle the graphics it´s fun.

All statements I make is from my point of view unless stated otherwise.

I know how you are feeling, I been that way for several months now. I miss SWG, loved how it used to be.  I am sick of hack and slash quest grinding games, I have been playing StarTrek Online lately. I am not a trekkie at all, but I played the game in beta with a pre-order and it was ok, buggy, but since release its much better. It is a nice change from the hack and slash and quest grinding. You do missions, the missions are fun especially if its your first time. There is no real "crafting" system yet, its more like an "Upgrade" system. You enhance items you can already get by using Data Samples you loot and get from scanning anomolies.

I love that you can fly in space and fight, and also beam to planets for missions and do ground fighting. Its not really fps, its 3rd person like SWG style fighting. The character creation is great, many races to choose from and even make your own race.

Just my opinion, playing games is only half the fun... finding a good clan to play with is the other half of the fun.

Good luck finding that game that can draw you in like SWG did!

Darkfall has a lot of fun things in it. Has a grind, but it seems like you dont mind it.

The only thing is that you mentioned that you dont really like the fps style, but MO is fps and a piece of crap.

Ive tried MO and i enjoy darkfall a lot more.

Thanks everyone for some of the great ideas and thoughts. I am going to check out some of the games suggested. I just want a game that I can have fun in, do some PVP (like SWG, battles could last 15 - 20 mins on one buff session) where I can build a house/shop and craft items to sell, or beable to go to a social area and just meet people and chat. Basically I want something similar to old SWG. I don't mind grinding skills and the fact that you could change your professions in a matter of days. I also like good character creation.

One thing that got me started on MMO is my brother. I picked on him for SWG (Not really understanding MMO) and told him he was a dork because it was Starwars (hint: I am not a BIG sw fan, like the movies, but thats as far as I go) Then one day he told me to make a character. So I did, and my responce was "This is almost like The SIMS!" I was pretty excited. Then I went iinto the game and WOW I was taken away by the fact that other people were running around playing the same game I was.... that moment on I was hooked. And the fact that I still am really good friends with some of my old SWG friends, I made some pretty amazing life long friendships in that game that I still talk to a few times a month or more.

Blah, sure most of you don't really care about my story :) But again, Thanks for some of the great suggestions and Ideas. Maybe I will go and make my own Game Story, and Idea of a GREAT MMORPG and go to some game company and sell them it :D Then in a few years I will have my perfect game LOL

I quickly skimmed your whole post here and noticed no one mentioned Fallen Earth.  I havent played it myself in the past month or two, but seeing as how you keep raving about looking for a game similar to SWG i think youll find Fallen Earth's game play right up your alley.  Might be worth tacking that onto your list of games to try as well.

I think you'd like FFXI, no quests for leveling and constant grouping.

Its not really what you want, but I'm gonna suggest it anyways.

    EVE Online

If you can get past the infamous learning curve, you'll see that its a very social game full of possibilities.

Also, if you actually end up finding a game you described, let us know!

Try Entropia Universe.   If you liked the Sandbox nature of SWG, plus the ability to engage in or avoid PvP at your own choosing you may really dig EU.

Its a RMT game (Thats Real Money Transaction) but you shoudlnt let that deter you.  People play for free, pay very little, or pay alot.  Its a player decision.  The game is naturally slow, I woudlnt expect a modern fast paced level em up and raid game like WoW.   This is a more intricate game.

Some players will say this game is a scam.  Theyre right.  It is, if you are hoping to get money out of it.   But if you want to view it as a subscription optional game, and put in $15 a month whenever you choose to do so, its just another game.   Maybe even the sandbox game many folks are looking for --- but wont try.

Here's my Entropia story if youre curious:
