Seems like there'd be limited room for expansions to an extent.  Certainly they'd risk a "now you die even more" scenario which would probably mess up the fun.

Overall it sounds interesting, but I wouldn't be willing to pay much of a monthly fee for a game like this.

this is definitly something i would play, make it with a heavy horror type gameplay similar to say F.E.A.R where you get flashes of weird things on your screen when zombies or stuff appears in an area,  and add a crafting system where u could make different weapons to defend yourself just in case out of the environment like pipes crowbars with the ability to customize that piece of equipemnt before it breaks with nails for pieces of wood and such but id definitly play if it had a heavy sense of horror and fear good idea

I had thought many times about writing up mechanics for such an MMO involving a world gone awry and most of the population were zombies. Sort of a large scale Left 4 Dead. Constant surprise attacks and everything else to keep it fresh, keep you on the edge of your seat, and keep you jumping. =P

Interesting...I would check it out, a survival apocalypse style MMO would sound really good right about now, where survival is emphasized you have my vote.

One reason I enjoy playing EVE is that combat is normally fought with the goal of making sure you survive the fight while making your opponent die.  This make a person much more careful and work harder to win, and when the odds aren't looking good, running away is the best course of action.

So I'd be up for a game where survival would be the primary goal, and combat only used as a last resort when avoiding conflict was impossible.

For those who like advancment  it would be great if the more gametime you survive the stronger you get; more resistent to damage/infection; run a bit faster;sprint faster and longer; can hold breath longer; melee hits faster. This way the longer you survive the better you get and you improve your chances of survival.

To make it more challenging,to keep top physical performance one should consume food every certain amount of time played, this would make it important to gather/cultivate/salvage food.

Another possibility should be for players  to eat fellow players and zombies, it's an Easier food access but it would brand you a canibal + eating infected meat will slowly infect you so you need a steady access to drugs. (Which also needs to be gathered.)

There should be player made/mantained safe havens, but these could be overun if not kept hidden or cleansed.

The zombies can detect sound so they will be atracted by gunshots, cars etc etc. The more people gather in one place the greater the possibilities they would make sound thus atracting more zombies  increasing the chance to be overrun.

To make it interesting there need to be a goal. The goal could be finding one military installation being run by the remnants of the government. To get there should be a long way and difficult one (should be made so it would take a well skilled team months to get there.) The search for the base and the treck would have to be slow. Once there you have a permenant save haven and the next thing would be to gather x% of the server population at that spot. Once amount x is reached the game change in annhilation mode, the final quest to finish all zombies in the game world. Cleanse them all.

To make it interesting in the annihilation mode, when you fall you spawn back as a zombie. Dont know if that would work, but it would be an great enticement not to take lightly the lfe gotten despite the better killing equipment  fromt the military base.

Once that is finished the world resets.

    Just some ideas.

Here is my zombie-specific survival/advancement hybrid.

Say the game is not level but skill based. You have ‘skills’ like firearms, melee, traps. You also have stats like head, arms, legs, torso. Along with health and stamina, you would have a ‘resistance’ bar. In detail…

The people that are not yet zombies have a resistance to the zombie virus. You start out with a lot of resistance, but zombie contact causes infection. There may be medicines for it and since you have natural resistance, you will fight it off provided you don’t get a spike, a la being stupid enough to wander into a large mob of higher level i.e. more virulent zombies.

When you start the game you start at medium levels on all stats and skills.

‘Death’ creates stat loss and as noted lowers resistance. If you die a lot you go below and could be basically below zero.

There are a lot of details that I can’t wrap my head around now, like what would stop someone from just rerolling if they hit level -2. Maybe SOME stats are lost on death and not others. Like only physical stats, mental are retained.

"Never met a pack of humans that were any different. Look at the idiots that get elected every couple of years. You really consider those guys more mature than us? The only difference between us and them is, when they gank some noobs and take their stuff, the noobs actually die." - Madimorga

I get my fix of survival from real life. No thanks.

I do agree that character advancement orientated level based grinders are getting old.

I really would like to do that. It's just I got 0%experience  in game making nor a team behind me, if I could get the moneywize support + the people who can do the coding and artwork I would go for it.  I really would desire such a game to exist and be succesful enough to earn enough  to keep it going.

These days the things I like I put in the stories I write, who knows I might get one big seller out on paper and with the money endulge in one of my life wishes:  makeing a game like the one described in this thread.
