Question

NemorsaNemorsa Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 131

When I started this thread I thought I would have a lot of questions to ask. I'm coming back after awhile and before this never played that much, maybe for a month or two at most, I couldn't afford to sub for long. So although I am not new to the game, I am a newbie in some senses of the word. My question is with quests. In every MMO I play quests are my favorite thing to do, but in FF XI I could never seem to find anyone offering any. As far as I know there are no markers telling you if someone is a quest NPC or just a regular NPC so I was wondering, is there any way to find quests easily? I could alt+tab between game and a quest list, but that doesn't seem like too much fun, and without quests I see no point in playing a game, I'm not a fan of end game, I actually prefer getting there over being there.

P.S. I'm on Asura so if you are a complete newbie talk to me and we can group, or if you don't mind having someone who will mess up quite a bit.

Personally, I think it sort of defeats the point of FFXI.  Its from a time when you actually had to put the effort into finding things out in game, such as quests.  But if you absolutely need your hand held to quest: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Main_Page

Its a pretty solid list of info on FFXI.

Anyone else want to help without being an ass?

Don't think he was being an ass about it, he was just letting you know why you are having trouble finding quests.  It was the same in EQ1 years ago, you talked to every npc and took key words from their conversation, wrote down clues on pen + paper, and went to town.  Personally I miss this kind of questing in newer mmos, the discovery and mystery was nice.

Fix'd. But honestly, I don't want big !'s floating over NPC's heads. Quests in FFXI aren't what you get in WoW. They don't offer a step by step walkthrough in the Journal. They don't give exp rewards (well some do, but most don't). The first one's even give a reward that leaves you thinking why did I just waste time on this. But as you do quests in XI, you gain fame in that area. The quests NPC's give that offer the big rewards won't be given out unless you have a high fame rank.

    Playing - EVE, Wurm

Retired - Final Fantasy XI, Anarchy Online, Mabinogi

    Waiting - ArcheAge, Salem

I don't think there is a way to mark which npcs are quest givers. The best way to probably figure out who is and isn't is to use the FFXI wiki or other sites similar to that. The other way is to just talk to each NPC that you come across. It's an older MMO there won't be some things in it that are in the newer ones.
