Is this worth investing my time in?

barjedbarjed Member Posts: 3

Right now I am on some MMO crave and looking for a game to spend some time with. I am kinda torn between Aika and AoC. I am looking mainly into PvP, be it instanced or otherwise. While AoC is obviously of higher quality, being P2P and all, I really dig the Eastern style of MMOs (too bad Aion has disappointed me so very, very badly) and the RvR premise that Aika somewhat seems to have.

So - is it worth playing or should I stick to Conan? I already tried it a bit, read up on it a bit but still can't decide. Is the PvP worth it? Is it interesting? How about variety between players, both visual and other?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

I belive the game is for North America only at the moment. They are in the process of  puting an i.p block on Europeans. Somebody correct me if i'm wrong.

  • PhryPhry Member LegendaryPosts: 11,004

Apparently correct, though i understand there will be a 'Euro' version, for some reason game companys seem to like to keep North America seperate from the rest of the world.. whether its for their protection, or ours.. i have no idea ;D

I am pretty sure I signed up for something that was called Aika Global. Does that not include Europe?

  • Aika Global includes most parts of Europe (apart of those countries that have their own version).

What people meant was gpotato Aika. I guess you tried that, since the Global version isn't out (at least, haven't heard of it launching yet).

I would suggest you to try Aika though. The PvE is standard, but the PvP is a lot of fun. Best is to join a guild to completely enjoy the nation wars, castle sieges and invasions.

So ultimately it means there's no point, at least not until Aika Global is up, since I am european (Poland to be precise) and my account will at some point in the future end up banned?

  • tomincetomince Member Posts: 39

Regardless of the region, this game is more Asian Import crap.  The games are F2P because there isn't a single person in the world, that isn't insane or stupid, that would pay to play crap like this.

Your best bet is to wait for Global Aika. If you want to test it out a bit to see if you will like it, you can start playing gpotato Aika a bit, but I wouldn't invest too much time until Global Aika. They did say that they are working on an agreement until the 30th, which is in five days. Then, we will know if existing accounts will be banned or not.

Despite what anyone says, I would suggest that you try it though. The PvP is really worth playing for and there is a stronger focus on guilds and community than in many other games. If you find some trustworthy friend to do PvP and dungeon runs with, then it might be very enjoyable.

aoc is a lovely game, if your computer can run it at max. nothing like smashing some guy in the head and having his skull leave a 2 foot streak of blood on the floor. you really FEEL the impact, if you know what i mean.

however, pvp is currently busted in conan heavily in favor of casters - they do not have to execute combinations in melee range to do their dirty work, after all.  Casters were being reworked (read: nerfed) because they had too much ranged crowd control and effortless ranged damage for melee folks to be able to really have even footing in pvp. I don't know how that will all be sorted out.

players do look visually distinct from each other, but as it is low fantasy there won't be any people running around with gigantic flaming skulls of uberness on their armor. So the fine detail is there. skill wise, everyone has 2 distinct trees (hi wow, we didnt steal from you) and they do indeed have two distinct feels  in what they do and how they perform mechanically. there are no real "subpar" builds so you can pick up whatever strikes your fancy and play how you like and do well, which is nice.

AOC pve can be fun because the quests can get damn near raunchy.. like my lesbian love affair between me, a savage bear shaman and a noble woman who probably bathes a good deal more than I do.. that was unexpected, to be sure! and the quest to learn the best insult.. they were pretty damn outrageous, end result was quite funny. they definitely do not censor themselves in this game.

Everyone can't move to global, NA ip's will be banned from it.

I seriously doubt the graphics are going to be any different, for better or for worse.  It's the exact same game, just a different company handling the online service for it.

It's all about what you enjoy. I personally think the game is garbage but I have a friend who swears it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.

It's cheap and the client is small, hop in and see what you think.

Sig so that badges don't eat my posts.

First of all, if you have time to spend in an MMO, then your time is worth *jack*.

Otherwise, if a game is completely free to download and play, then it doesn't cost anything... so asking "what it's worth" makes no sense. If it's free, and your time is worth jack... then how can anything be "worth it"?

after about 10 minutes of having to listen to my gooey eyed cleric gosh and golly through every quest (voice overs on all the intro quests) and having to run past weird cat unicorn mounts that made constant mrow! sounds, it was just too anime for me. You get some weird kid who follows you around and sprouts various animal appendages out of her rump, to boot, so there is no escaping the gooey eyed anime. Also i dont see how the pvp can possibly be that much more amazing than any other f2p game when the skills are identical to most every other mmo out there for the various classes.

i want blood. i want guts. i want.. well.. spartacus as an mmo but not AOC. so this wasnt my cup of tea.

This game is only worth bothering with if you live in  north american region as they going to apply an ip ban on all those that dont it is a pretty good game too I played closed beta and got to lvl 40 in open beta before they decided to tell players about the ban and only after they had let non americans buy from the cash shop,(thk god i didnt),but any north american will like this game so try it .

  • shimanoshimano Member Posts: 12

Dont suppose in your ten minutes you got to lvl 30 or so to take part in a war were its race against race1000v1000 or in a castle siege were it can be 200 v 200so in your ten minutes play you think  you have enough info to give a review of the game.

Well I think this game is something worthwhile. Try it out and see for yourself. However if you're not from NA, don't waste time in creating/building your character now since they will be blocking users from NA soon. What I can suggest is that you wait for the global version if you really want to try it out. :) From what I have heard from others, Aika global might be out in a couple of months time.

its unlocked for actual gpotato user till t3fun released global version!outside of america will be ipblocked from america and america will be ipblocked from global version!yep its a bad idea!

  • drbaltazardrbaltazar Member UncommonPosts: 7,856

dont know now but pre-ipblock pvp was epic like the add say !right now ! beats me i guess gpotato hope player will come back now that ipblock is gona be both end !but i doubt it!this game was great because it was global made for epic pvp

now that its will be ipblock its just another subpar asian mmo!player have been sending message to all partys to come up with a solution so this game stay global everywhere !

    response:NOT GONA HAPPEN!

  • ArchendrusArchendrus Member Posts: 16

Yeah, gpotato kinda dropped the ball when they didn't secure exclusive global rights, but shit happens I guess.  The population did dip for a week or so, but it's actually gettin' pretty populated now, even on vanov! lol.  NA and Global versions of games can still do well, one example I can think of is 2Moons and Dekaron.

  • Player143Player143 Member Posts: 42

totally agree!! gpotato is hoping that players will come back or new players will join.

    good luck!

    can't wait for aika global!

  • freshtomatofreshtomato Member Posts: 17

let's hope there won't be anymore of like that in global.. i still can't get myself to play any other MMO right now. aika global ineed youu

so if your a botter have at it, you will love this game . if you want a clean ran game your in the wrong spot.
