Hey guys you probably get this all the time but I am stuck on what game to play! I'm new to posting on these forums so go easy on me
I'm looking to play one of the MMO's i own and cant decide what to go for, I'm just looking for some peoples opinions in what games they would choose. i want a game that has fun quests, fun pvp and looks pretty i like to raid and i like to pvp.
As the title says I mainly play WoW, Aion, AoC, and LOTRO. i do own other MMO's which I've hardly played but already ruled out. if you think I should consider them let me know otherwise. Owned MMO's
Aion
Age of Conan
EvE
Final Fantasy XI
Lord of the Rings Online
Runescape
Warhammer
World of Warcraft
But as i said my hearts set on either WoW, Aion, AoC, and LOTRO
WoW: I enjoy playing it, have hit 80 on a DPS/Tank Warrior and have achieved fairly good gear T9/10. But lately I've thought to myself "im hunting for better gear, for what? so i can hunt for more gear, and more gear?" I also cant last more then a few hours with an alt, i get bored of the questing system, as i have done it so many times.
Aion: I've got to admit i'm drawn to this the most, the graphics are awesome, the questing was fun "i got to level 17" the only thing that threw me off this game was a friend who said how grindy it got past 25. and the fact that i was working long night shifts at the time. i liked the quest system and tbh the whole game in general.
AoC: Now this game is sexy. i have the specs to run it at max in DX10 but i dont think the barbaric age is my thing. i like everything about it though, quests are fun, pvp is fun. theres just something i'm not quite sure of that doesn't manage to keep me hooked.
LOTRO: This game is cool, i love everything about it but..... the PvP lacks which i know it wasn't designed for. and for the pure blandness of the game armour. i mean maybe i'm just used to bulky shoulders on my orc warrior but it feels as if the armour on LOTRO is just body paint

If you want PvP, do not play LoTRO. If you want to raid, do not play LoTRO. On the upside, LoTRO has a very well designed, if not slightly generic world, that's fun to explore. At the end of the day though, the game always fails to hold my interest, so I can't recommend that for you.
If I were you, I'd stick with WoW or AION. Really WoW has everything you want in spades, but hey, you're 80 and you've reached a point where the game's just a grind for you now. While you might not want to delete your WoW toons or anything, I'd suggest taking some time off of WoW to play AION until you get bored. By that time, you may not be so burnt out on WoW. The thing is, what you describe with WoW is really the case with every MMORPG on the market. All MMORPGs (even sandbox games) are just carrott on a stick gear grinders when you break them down.
Yeah i see exactly what you mean mate, I think i've done anything that would have interested me on LOTRO and as you've said there isn't much else to it.
Yeah maybe i do just need a break from wow. i know a lot of mmorpg's are just carrots on a stick. but i'm after out of the games i have the game with the tastiest looking carrot on the end of that stick.
Thanks alot mate i think i may certainly re-sub to Aion tomorrow
Well, I'll give you my opinion, or thoughts.
I've tried Age of Conan a few times and never really got into it. I enjoyed the graphics, the world, the classes, all of the basics about the game except the combat system. I'm a fan and supporter of more involved combat, but the way Age of Conan handles it isn't something that grabbed me during my experience, at all. I preferred Spellborn's take on "action-MMO" combat.
I really like Turbine's games but Lord of the Rings Online never held my attention. I've reached my mid-30s and 40s on a new character each time I've subbed but eventually ended up letting my subscription run out. The game plays well and looks great, but the environment never grabbed me and pulled me into it.
I love Aion, I really do. I let my subscription run out last month, tho. I really want to see more content added. The leveling experience 1-50 was great. I personally have never understood the "grindy" claims -- or that the game had too much grind. After leveling multiple characters it's easy to see the game isn't very alt friendly, at least in terms of seeing additional starter area content. You're limited to the same linear path each time through, my main complain with Aion, and the lack of real content at the end-game.
World of Warcraft obviously offers everything an MMO player could want in a themepark MMO (which all the above are). Each person dislikes WOW for their own reason, but it's a complete package. The first two expansions really thinned everything out in terms of difficulty and changed the face of the game into something that any casual player can acquire gear and access content. This bothers some, but I still subscribe because I can entertain myself on WOW regardless. And when I can no longer find interest in logging in, I unsubscribe for a little while and head to Aion or FFXI again.
Any MMO at end-game is a gear grind. You grind gear, reputation, whatever to be able to access the next tier of content, thus acquiring the next tier of gear. That is the blueprint of any MMO's end-game currently. The worlds aren't infinite, there's only so much content, and when you get max level you eventually run out of new content. Any game's end-game halts at some point. Usually when I get burnt on the content grind on WOW I unsub for a few months. Usually by the time I resub there's some kind of new content.
Out of your choices I'd say WOW or Aion. Just know that with any of the games you listed, the end-game is a grind. Some just have more content to grind than others.
I appreciate your detailed response, i think you've now "put the icing on the cake now" so to speak. i will most certainly take a break from WoW from time to time and give Aion a good go in the mean time. ive also been looking at this "Aion Vision" where there apparently upgrading Aion immensely. so i think from tomorrow onwards (when my wow sub expires) i shall re-sub to Aion. Thanks alot guys appreciated
