Why hasn't anyone created a pure Adult MMORPG yet?

oakfootoakfoot Member UncommonPosts: 15

Since the creation of the arena MMORPG there have been bans on one kind of play or another, gore, tabaco or alchohol use and even language and all of them have been lifted and game compomaies continue to push for greater boundery's, so why hasn't anyone catered to the most primal need of mankind. Yeah I'm talking about an mmorpg based souly on sex and all it's vanilla to kink and filthy forms. I mean common, when was the last time your girlfriend told you you had advanced to the next level of spanking or hair pulling. Ok, I admite I'm more of a kink kinda guy so I would like to advance to the next level of whipping and maybe bondage.

So my question is how many peps would really be interested in seeing an mmorpg based on the oldest form of entertainment.

You should just grow up and get laid. Sexual content on games is for people who cant get laid. Sex IRL is better than any virtual reality sex game. So just go to a bar and get laid man. Seriously.

    lol'd!

But seriously, why do you need a video game to do these things?  They are so much more rewarding IRL.  I play games to take a break from this kinda shit.

    You're looking for Second Life.

Contrary to most people's belief, it's not a major part of Second Life......... but it does exist.... and every-single-thing you mentioned. Although, it may take you a little bit to really start seeing where most of it is. In Second Life, if you can think it, so obviuosly what you're talking about it is there.

Bonetown comes to mind. Not that I know anything about it *coughs* It was just in a Hey Ash skit over on GameTrailers.

"Sex sells" doesn't really apply to any sort of games though. No retailers will ever carry Adult rated games. Unlike film where there's a porn industry on the side of hollywood; there's no separate avenue for such things. Mainly because there's no market for it else there would be.

First off let me just say this: In school early in life we get a basic's crash course in sex Ed. After that a few responcable communities promote safe sex and even give out condums but even then the subject is pretty much left to the imaginations of people who would like to do any of it right but stumble throuth the vanilla parts most of there lives never really knowing much about it. As for going out and getting laid.....Been there done that, I'm 53 years old and have had more then most men will ever have. I've seen a few posts here talking about second life and granted its geared somewhat towards that it's not really there for that purpose. It's for interaction and the game is poorly done at that.

On the other hand, Have you taken a look at Runes of Magic? It's got a huge amout of kink in it that lets you fight the mobs in your underwear if you choose to do so. The female armour is extreemly sexual oriented and it ozzes sex.

Isn't it great to come home after a long day and sit down to a game where you can slaughter other people or animals and get a pat on the back for it, I'm pretty sure they don't teach murder in school as a basic skill yet everone seems to enjoy it.

Another question you might want to address here? Have you or one of your gaming Friends ever seen a sexual learning video or watched a Porn and walked away considdering attemtping it with your partner in jopes of trying something new your non-creative mind had not thought up yet.

I've been told that video games teach things like social skills, hand-eye cordination, crittical thinking and desision making, so Why can't it teach safe sex and sexual skills to the guys and gals that fumble it every time they try on a life long quest to get it right.

I'll chill on this with one last statment, I used to know a group of people in my guild while playing worl of warcraft that created a night-elf female just so they could relax and watch her do the stripper dance, which happens to be her default dance and her designers really did a good just on the animation.

There is one called Red Light Center, not sure if it is an actual mmorpg though.

There's also a genre called MMOEG, - erotic games.

So getting laid in game isn't the same as RL? Damn....

We're all Geniuses. Most of us just don't know it.

To answer the main 'thrust' of your post here is a list of MMO'S with 'adul't content.

That Cohan game that lists Breasts as a main feature.

Second life its free and full of adult stuff [including upgrades to your avitar to make it look like anything and upgrades to give you willys and hooters.

Neocron it has a red light district and a pole dancing club you can visite after some pve or pvp.

But really have you considered going to a Pawn site?

There are some that cost less than a mmo.

Another great example of Moore's Law. Give people access to that much space (developers and users alike) and they'll find uses for it that you can never imagine. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981

You don't get full access unless you subcribe for $10/mo or like $6/mo if you buy a year...... which is really one of the only reasons to subscribe. You also get a little bit of land, but hardly enough to do anything with, especially since you can rent a shop and that doesn't count towards owning land since you're only renting. Rent rates converted to USD are usually about $4 - $6/mo.

     "Full access"?

There's no region barriers or restrictions in Second Life. The subscription fee allows you to own land (not to be confused with renting land; 90% of everyone rents from land owners).

So you have subscription fees paid to Linden Labs that allows you to purchase land and do other things line cash out via Pay Pal, and you have 95% of everyone else that adds money one way, and if they have property they've rented it from land owners.

But if what you meant by "full access" is any kind of content restriction; it isn't subject to having a subscription. Every region is marked PG, Mature, or Adult. Mature and Adult can only be visited by age-veritifed accounts, which costs nothing to do.

Premium accounts have access to Adult regions. Free accounts have access to PG and Moderate, teens have access to PG only regardless of payment. A land owner, can lock their land down to Age Verfied members only, but very few do. Age Verfication is completely dependant on the SIM owner and is not required by Linden Labs.

But, of course you would have known that if you played or even had an account to see the subscription page.... not too sure why you decided you had to correct me when you're obviously not a resident. lol

    Edit:

    "Immediate access to adult-only areas"

"Immediate access to adult-only areas" is a side effect of having entered credit card information. It isn't the ONLY way though. You can age verify with the last 4 digits of your SSN, driver's license or passport even. It's really nothing ambiguous, little known or needs speculating about. Log into secondlife.com and Age Verification is the fourth link down on the left side bar. After that you can enable Mature and/or Adult listings in your viewer preferences, and not be barred from regions tagged as either.

It doesn't cost anythign. Signing up is free, age verifying is free. All a person has to do is create an account and give a form of ID; last four digits of SSN or driver's license is easiest.

    Ok?

Do you even know what you're arguing anymore? You don't play, I don't care...... and SL login just came back up. So...

I thought you were claiming that you needed a paid subscription in order to access Adult content in Second Life. So I was correcting you if you were. If you weren't asserting that though then carry on.

And actually I've been using Second Life for years now. I have a scripting business in it as a hobby.

I doubt we will see any Adult games for a while. Age of Conan is the closest some people can get. It would be a good thing to see but I doubt developers would take a chance because if they make it to "Adult" some countrys will ban it and they wont make as much money as they would if they made a non complete adult game.

    Time to kick some MMO!

  • HYPERI0NHYPERI0N Member Posts: 3,515

My first and last day in second life got me into many 'sex' shops and i even watched some couples having full on nudity gangbanging on the furniture shops beds?

So i would say the content can be considered Adult.

This isn't an adult site, dude.  Those pictures don't belong here.  People browse this sort of site while their families are in the room.

  • IlliusIllius Member UncommonPosts: 4,142

    IBTL.

Not like this post is going to count anyways.....  But yeah you might get a temp ban for those images.  I personally have no issues with it but some people will and you might get in shit.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Those screenies look pathetic compared to SL.

I can't believe you posted them though. With an 845 post count, you should have known better. I hope the mods don't delete or lock this thread because of one person being a moron, posting illicit pictures on a public site.

  • dubistblaudubistblau Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 274

i hope so too... that is very unnecessary. shouldn't have posted those in here. tsk tsk.. Mods are quite considerate not having this thread locked yet. sad.

I have been working on a truly adult-only MMORPG for about five years now. The main concept site is http://underworld.wecometoplay.com and a devblog of sorts (more like an online design theme reference) is http://underworldmmo.wordpress.com

The main reason, I think, there haven't really been any fully adult ones is simple.

If you are a major studio wanting to make an MMORPG, investors require that you make an attempt to maximize the amount of subscribers, due to the cost fo production (usually several million dollars and up).

If you are simply trying to focus on the adult market, then you can make a game with sex and simply ignore the other rpg elements of the game design. And there are several products like that  (which could, technically, include Second Life).

In order to work on my project, I have had to totally self fund it. Not only with several hundred thousand dollars so far (which is pennies to a big studio) but with thousands of hours of work so far (not counting the time it took to study, practise and learn the various elements of production).

I have roughly 3,000 more hours to go, and that is with extremely severe corner cutting in order to have a product out there. It can be a vicious cycle, dealign with investors, and watchign them bloat the development process or change teh content.

I am not trying to develop muindless porn, but somethign akin to Heavy Metal or Clive Barker. Something that I envision Joseph Campbell would appreciate ion etrms of it's accurate depictions of the adult worlds of mythology and fantasy.

After years of wondering where that adult virtual world was (and knowing it's creation was inevitable) I ahve simply forged ahead, despite calls of beign vaporware or a scammer. i am simply oen person focused on making a game liek that a reality. Soon I will be opening development up to donations, volunteering, and public scrutiny again, but simply setting oon an exact implementation given the time and financial budget remaining, has been difficult.

No matter what technology you choose as an independent developer, you have to sacrifice something. MMORPG engines are not inexpensive, at least not compared to an individual salary.

In any event, please support this project simply by commenting on the blog. A full fledged website is coming (and we previously had a social network where the project was designed from input of many people).

I for one, would like to see a Guro-based MMO just at least once. Current violence within the industry just isn't enough to satisfy me unfortunately.

Requiem is probably the closest we'll ever get to one sadly, but if it does ever happen i'd totally be on board for it.

  • baphomehbaphomeh Member Posts: 3

I'll add that to the list. I had focused on some of the decendents of that style such as seen in films such as Urossukidoji, but the complexity/time inbvolved is not significantly more for me to include that genre. While the resultiung content would be extremely adult, I already have enough content to be past that line, so why not.

Thank you for the specific word/term, I will add it to the devblog (while of course practising and developing animation sets and character actions/skills/techniques for it's use in game. Thanks for the suggestion.

I was worried at first that EPIC wouldn't approve a license to use UDK for a commercial product with that as a feature, but they said fine when I requested one for an adult only title, citing the film Urotsukidoji as a frame by frame description of what would be in the title. It was a hard choice to do that (uxsse a fps engine with limited mmorpg csababilities but high other ones (prays for sizense or kinetc sdk access threough udk) instead of using an open source or low cost mmorpg specifc engine. But I have an addiction to near photorealistic graphics.. a film buff really.

so the past five years should bear fruit in the next twelve months for at least some sort of virtual world to play around in with that subject included faithfully.
