Purchased FFXI off Gamestop for $11.. Waste of money.. Play Online won't accept my credit card because it keeps telling me my security code is wrong. It isn't i used the exact same card and info to purchase it off Gamestop.
Square Enix Support just wants to blame me and get me off the phone.. Not actually help. Don't waste your money.

INDEED!
Get the free trial instead before you go and buy it.
yes, that is the answer.. lol no
Would have saved you 11 bucks.
Well, teaches you for not thinking it through I guess.
Thinking what through? The fact that Play Online is broken? I've played FFXI before I don't need the trial.. I know what the games like.. WHEN YOU CAN ACTUALLY PLAY IT!.. I played for 5 years.. I've killed HNM's..
(mod edit)
Ah, the hostility...
You can test if your CC works even without buying the game. So yes, don't buy the game. Download the trial, see if your CC works, and then go and buy it.
Thank you for your invaluable suggestion, and good bye.
So just because your CC info doesn't work... No one should buy this game? What a joke. This post as a whole is an insult to the game and it's players.
So the game is bad because you are having credit card problems and flaming the forums is your solution?
lol, I duno...doesn't seem to productive as numerous people haven't had issues registering. Don't get me wrong the entire POL system is kinda retarded. Takes like 5 minutes to login because you have to go through numerous screens.
I would suggest as others have in the forums that you read a little more. Although the actual scheduled maintenance maybe today or tomorrow they still stop registration for a few days. This may be your issue. Should be in the fine print somewhere, although before you even attempt this game I would suggest you not even bother. The game has a very large grind and requires patience to wait for parties, NMs and just plan leveling. You will find it very hard to solo and will need to dedicate usually a minimum of 3 hours to leveling as it takes a while to find a party, get organized and start killing.
I would personally suggest you not bother with this game as I would hate to see the game get bashed because enough research on the game wasn't done, (unless you have, then by all means go for it). This is a niche game and is a lot of fun. It is just one of the largest time sinks online.
FF14 will be more up your ally and hopefully not have that crappy POL. I hope you have more success!

I'm obviously not the only one.. There is another post from another guy who is having the same issue.. keeps saying "Server Is Busy"
Yep so the servers are in maintenance, that would explain your problem, too bad you are too impatient to even wait a day.
Not the issue.. tried long before the servers were in maintenance.
I can't believe I'm in the position of defending Playonline and it's billing system(they suck), but wow! what an ass!
The problem you're experiencing is likely due to the fact that S/E had no idea how to set up a billing system when they made FFXI and made it so they have to process all charges at the same time at the end of the month, during which time they take the billing server down... Guess when now is?
Note that I've not played FFXI in years...
*Damn front page crawl*
If Maintenence time wasn't your issue, there's a workaround for the Secure CC info. Just use Firefox's NoScript Addon.

Please don't go on a rant over every little thing. A quick google search would lead you to this.
SE added on each game box and on the sites they offer for download that a Credit Card that supports Verified by Vista or MasterCard SecureCode is needed. Again, just reading a little would have helped.

Agreed.
To me it seems Hyanmen was being an asshole, so dunno what's your problem with OP.
How is adressing the op's concerns and offering suggestions being an a hole? LOL.
He is insulting everyone who tries to help him and cursing up a storm, that is our problem with him. There is simply no need to personally attack people in the fashion he has chosen.
I would just like to know where to get the free trial for FFXI, been looking on the website for a while now and cant find it .
Although it does say somewhere on there that the trial isnt available at this moment in time, cant quite remember where though. Was just wondering if maybe there was another way of getting the trial.
Also does anyone know the reasoning for it not being available?
All I'm going to say to this is OP said FFXI was a waste of money because they couldn't read the info about the CC requirements, Hyan said to download the free trial first to see if it would work, and OP started the whole "fanboi" argument.
To Renzol: You can't make trial accounts anymore, for some reason they closed it.

Im coming across the same problem. I would like to test run the game via a trial before I purchase it, but canot find a trial version. Anone got any suggestions for us?
Sadly their trial IS shut down for now, you can buy the game for only 11-15 bucks however, so I mean if you really h ate it you only wasted a small amount of money.
I'm not sure why they took away the free trials they only had them for around a year.
Sadly there are no "guest passes" or "veteran invites" or anything that other games have. So yeah your gunna have to find someone to let you play on their account or just go out on a limb and buy it.
Ah, ok. Well... 15 bucks gone isnt noticeable by any means. Guess Ill give it a try soon.
I love FFXI, and I still play it every now and then and continue to give SE my money on the months I dont play it. However to any new player I usually suggest waiting until FF14 and reading up on it. Not by any means am I saying FFXI is dying, just that to really get into the game would take a lot of time and many people are unsure how it will fair when FF14 arrives.
So personally I would suggest waiting until FF14 releases or finding some sort of free way. FFXI isn't for everyone and FF14 will hopefully reach out to mroe people while still maintaining the original feel of FFXI. Extra codes are hard to comeby as the PC version has been discontinued from Gamestop stores and the XB360 versions can not be traded in.
I would suggest waiting until 14, but if you are adamant on playing the game, just pay the $11.00 and download from steam or off Gamestop's website.

Ah ok that kinda sucks, was hoping to give it a try as i have never played it for some unknown reason. I mean i have played all the FF games before it ( and after ) but just never tried FFXI and feel i kinda missed out on it now with FFIV coming out soonish.
If you really want it cheap go to a local "Target" or "Wal-mart" or something, they sometimes mark down copies of games so you might get it for like 8-10 bucks instead of 15.
Thats what I did once for AoC.
It is a love it or hate it game for FF fans. I never played any FF before 11 and I enjoyed it anyways. There was a story and new features and tweaks updated regularly. The downfall is the grind is really large...like the math broke down to something like, the experience points accumulated to get from levels 1-60 is equivalent to the xp to go from level 70-75. Lotta pluses with the game and with the fact that FF14 is using roughly the same races with the same world setup, I would grab FFXI if you have a lot of time, otherwise wait until FF14.
