well their is a new anouncment over at FE fourms and website. The have a new distrubutor (IGS) AKA Atari. so now the game will be open to more peeps. This is enough to prove and show FE will not and is not going under as it takes money to get these companies to distribute ur game. KUdos to FE! BTW Respecs and other aspects of the game for 1.4 are going live on the test server today :-)
Just on the side of caution, the respec that is coming with patch 1.4 is a one time thing (for now). Veterans of the game are cautioned to first play the changes, get a good feeling of them, let the new patch stabilise and then maybe use the respec if necessary. There is no time limit on the respec, but this is a one time deal, so be careful.
sounds to me like they just fired all the 2d artists, musicians, fluffers and modelers they no longer need and are only keeping the maintenance team small art group and the main core programmer group...
pretty typical these days ...ask any one in austin...
How many purchases + subscribers are there for Fallen Earth? How many?
Does anyone have any solid numbers?
28 staff members, at an average of 50,000 a year, is costing about $1.4 million each year. Which is a bit over $100,000 a month, which, if the game is using $15 dollars, would require a good 7,000 players or so.
So, assuming servers are FREE, they'd be just scraping by with 7,000 subscribers. But we all know servers aren't free.
All of that cost isn't even including all the initial investments put into the game, how many years did they have MORE than 28 people in there? What are their current debts and repayments to be made on those debts?
Skeleton crews, after initial launches of a game, are a good way to go for a relatively indie company. Putting people on contracts for 3/6 month blocks is a cost effective way to hire people without being a dick and "firing them" later, because hey, they were always going to be fired later anyway, and they knew it. It was in the contract.
Anyway, good luck Icarus.
I am playing EVE and it's alright... level V skills are a bit much.
Well, not one week after the layoffs, a partnersip with distributor IGS and Atari was announced.
I don't know how much in terms of content updates they'll manage to produce with the current crew, but it seems that at least both Icarus and their distributors believe in the longelivity of the game. Otherwise, why bothering making such a deal, if the game is on its deathbed?

A concern of mine is what changes will be made to the game. What amount of creative control did Icarus sell?

If it means the game will be available in stores and have game cards, that would be a big plus.

If you read the announcement, it's clear that we're talking about a distribution partnership deal. Unless they announce that this deal is more than that, it's safe to assume that Icarus still holds the development control.
On another note, it's refreshing to see how many suggestions and theoricrafting is taken into account and implemented into the game by the developers.
