I thought about playing the new version of the game, after having played the old trial, but didn't do it yet. Dunno why. I guess that most of the changes where of a technical sort. The style of some monsters was nice, and... uhm... in general it was a bit generic. It's nothing for hardcore MMORPG players, but I guess for people who are not much into gaming it can be some relaxed fun, probably, maybe not. I don't care.
Derek Smart takes over promising to stop the game from being essentially a poor wow clone. He does this by copying other companies press releases.
I was debating giving this game a try, wont be bothering now, if they cant even come up with their own "press stories" why should I believe the games story is going to be in any way new or interesting.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH The president literally stole the words from Bioware's mouth!! WOW I can't believe those Alganon clowns actually used another companies same exact words on trying to promote and sell the game... UNBELIEVABLE...

I am actually having a great deal of fun with the game. It just has a different atmosphere and feel for me than most MMO's and that is what makes it fresh for me. No, I don't expect it to be my next longterm MMO, but it has been a nice diversion and absolutely worth 20 bucks. Would not be worth 20 bucks and a monthly sub, but I have easily gotten the intital investment from it. I agree it is not for the hardcore, at least not as their main game (I play a casual raiding style of about 30 hours/week in most games I truly like), but it has been relaxing fun worth what it costs for me. I am not a big fan of Derek Smart, and he almost turned me away from purchase with his arrogant, childish rants, but I decided not to let that ruin the fun I've been having in-game.
BUT WAIT, what if you dont even have to touch it to turn it to gold, if its already gold,

Well most of those are not word for word but there is a lot of them that start of like each other. But the one that does take the cake "hmm cake" is his press release. That one is almost word for word a clone.
Hmm maybe Mr Smrt wants to dream that his "14" games could one day be as good as Bioware's first game Shattered Steel. Or that Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuck have real PHD's and Mr Smrt's so called PHD is just a Diploma Mill Version. Anyhow the bugger does like to copy and paste a lot.
But back to Alganon. i still stand that is worth $20.00 bucks for the gameplay, not worth the money just for the sheer fact that Smrt thinks it is ok to treat customers like shite and that if you don't like his lack of professionalism then piss off and every single customer is what the INVESTORS need.
I hope everyone that got a T-shirt from the "amazing well thought out" GM event hangs onto it. You never know it might be a collectors item one day. The whole 75 players from all the servers that were on yesterday for the event. Plus or minus a few players that got one.
Face it. All Smrt is interested in is trying to be back in the Game Industry Limelight and what ever Tech and knowledge he can take over to his up and comming MMO. That is all. The faster he gets out or booted from the Alganon team the better chance the game has at cracking the 100+ player base.
mm!if i understand correctly ,you buy the game then it works as a f2p there after!could be a good way we ll have to wait and see!
yes F2P with Cash Shop after you purchase the game for 20$
I find it funny that the forum handle this Mr Smart chose for himself on their forums is BVRBandit.. Beaver Bandit.. come on! really? how serious can you tak someone like that.lol
The confusion comes when you go to buy it and the language states that the sale price is $19.99 and includes a free month of gameplay. They should really update the purchasing page to reflect the new price model, as it turned me away initially. Also, in this day and age it's absurd not to accept paypal. Just a minor gripe in an otherwise happy customer.
Ah, so sad. There's one commonly overlooked fact about Alganon that never seems to have made any impact: regardless of all the dirty laundry washing, global player talk, exaggerated claims and personality clashes going on, that game was made by a company that can be described as "Indie" by fair standards.
Sadly, the people responsible have failed to avoid the WoW trap, got themselves into a bad popularity twister and botched the marketing for good. I'm impressed that someone could make such a game with the kind of shoestring budget, fidgety middleware and slim staff that QOL had... heads up, indie devs, MMORPGs can still be made without being Blizzard!
That said, give the game a spin, it's not too bad.
I feel mainly sorry for the programmers who most likely had to work overtime with little compensation and least of all gratitude from boss or players.
Had a look at the forum, there are 4900 members registered there, this is about the same number as when Alganon launched. So all the trial players don't seem to bother to go there (I didn't, for one thing). So much for massive.
Although I have to admit, it isn't too bad made per se, aside from the clumsy animations, especially of ones own hero. Still, don't see anything here that makes me want to buy it. Sure, F2P, but then I can do RoM if I want a (good & free) WoW-clone.
You know what's sad? We(players) were promised a 'whole new starting zone, introducing you to the Gods.' You know what we got? An idiotic 'go talk to three people then get ported to the exact same starting areas as before.'
I'm sorry, maybe I had it built up in my head, but I was told I'd get 'all new starting areas.' I suppose that promise was granted... technically.
Let me clue you in a little mister smart (haha, yeah right) promising a whole new experience doesn't just involve a few new text boxes. It involves an almost complete revamp. But, considering you've never released a successful game in your life...
Oh, and I still can't get a respnse on the tech support forums as to why this game runs half as well as Global Agenda while looking twice as bad. Go figure.
Apologies for my grammar and spelling. I'm drunk, tired, and pissed off. Play the trial if you want, but this game, even at $20, is a ripoff.
question, when a game goes into having a re-launch, i was told that all servers are wiped of data (everyone has to start over), but does it also mean that players get their initial free month back too or would that have to start over but lose what month came with the game? or is it just somethign they like to tag but in fact the game really doesnt change at all, just has a big patch fix (or attempt at one)?
I am asking as i have seen 3 or 4 games have an official game re-launch in the past 2 yrs (1 of which i have) but have never gone back into it even after this so called re-launch.
If someone could clear this up, would be helpful at what they mean by having a game re-launch.
Actually, the BVR in Derek's BVRBandit tag refers to 'Beyond Visual Range', an airforce combat term where the enemy gets pounded from a source 'beyond visual range', usually with missiles and such. I think Derek mentioned it somewhere on the gamasutra.com site that he liked that term because people 'would never see him coming' before he was onto them :-D
I feel sorry for the Quest Online dev team that worked so hard to make this MMO work with the meagre resources they have, only to have people like Derek Smart screwing things up on the PR department. I'd almost feel inclined to try Alganon, but too little time :-/
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
