Hey guys,
Long-time forum lurker, but I finally felt the need to make an account and post.
I'm interested in FF11 as it seems to be the only group heavy game around anymore, but I was wondering what the population is like. I don't want to even bother unless I'm going to be able to find some groups early on.
I was interested in being a healer if that helps.
Let me know your thoughts on a server and if its even worth my while to give it a try since the game has been around quite a while and FF14 is around the corner.

Last time I played was a few months ago on the Ifrit server. I believe the population was around 1,200 to 1,500. However, I didn't last very long when I reactivated my account because it felt like a waste of time to me seeing that I'd just be switching to FFXIV.
However, if you have never played FFXI before it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot because you may just not care that FFXIV is coming out because you may still enjoy it.
I haven't played in about 4-5 years, but I was a White Mage (staple healer in ffxi back then) and finding groups could take 15 min back than, or even 3 hours. Regardless of the time it took to find a group, once you did, it was almost always fun and entertaining. I kept up with the updates after i left and apparently it is much funner and easier to find groups now compared to back than. This is stil by far my favorite MMO simply because it really is group heavy, and if that is really what you want, try visiting ffxi.allakhazam.com and post in the general section what you posted here. You are guarenteed to find people who will invite you into their linkshell and help you along the way
They just merged from like 30 servers to 15 a while back and server is actually more populated then ive ever seen it. Along with the new level sync they added year or two ago its much easier to find groups then before. Ofcourse sometimes it might take you some time to find one.
Just find yourself a nice social LS on a whatever server you end up on and you will be enjoying the game for a long time(or until xiv comes out)
Finding groups is so much easier now with Level Sync. Basically any higher level can sync down to the lowest players level in the group. A lot of people are also working on Maat's cap and leveling subs to get ready for the level increase, so you shouldn't have any issues finding groups. Also not sure what other servers are like, but on mine almost everyone has a second mage account to use to powerlevel groups.
They merged from 32 to 24 actually, and stop by my LS forums by clicking my signature and check us out, and join if you'd like. We are a social LS and do tons of parties and content together daily!

Gonna grab a bite and start checking things out.
There are several good ls's to go to if your new on fenrir but this is one I would pass on unless you plan on going to FFXIV. The members playing XI are few and even those are going to IV when it launches.
So EE if you plan on just hanging out in FFXI until IV launches, otherwise I would look for a different LS. Secondgen is a good one. Lots of active members, helpful and fun. Just ask around in game there's usually one running around somewhere lol.
