As most of you have seen, the some of the Elementalist's animations have been unveiled.
The spells seemed to all be very flashy and colorful. Do you guys expect all skills to be like this? I know in GW the skills are quite flashy but GW2 seems to run with it even more... Is it too much? Also are we expected weapons to have glows. ie: A fire weapon leaves a stream of fire as you cut through enemies. Maybe they will even consider leaving weapon effects on all the time, which could be a little annoying and cookie cutter. Lastly, what did you guys think of the animations of the Elementalist? I was impressed! Im not a fan of the spell-caster type classes other than monk, but holy crap!, I want to give it a shot now. It seems so bad ass to put it simply.
Anyhow what do you think?

I personally think, that games like EQ2's spell and combat effects are all over the top... So much that they clutter the screen totally..
Thats why i don't like graphical effects from weapon swings at all, keep the special effects to the spelleffects. and make them in such a way that they don't clutter the screen to much but do look cool...
The elementalist spell effects might just be just of this cattegrie, except the meteor shower.

I for one like it a lot.
And tbh I'm one of the players who thinks graphics are important, if the look isn't there I will not play.
This doesn't mean gameplay is less important, but the 2 should be in balance.
For those who do not like the spell/combat effects, you can allways turn them off, so no harm no foul either way.
I.
im pretty much think almost all skill will be stuning in color and efect thats is they want the combat be in gw 2 stunning and somting great visual so pp enjoy the fight ,but combat gonna be almost similar at gw 1 ,the game gonan be totally unique again .
They have expressly stated their desire for all abilities to be visually impressive and recognizable. This probably means that each class will have recognisable thematic aspects to their abilities, as well as each ability being strong enough visually to recognise at a glance. They want people to be able to quickly and intuitively work closely together in a large PvP combat environment. We may not always be friends or be talking to one another, but if they do it right, we can all know what is going on and be able to tell what we can do to play of another player's skills (ala the arrows through the fire wall bit).
If they do it right, this will be another revolutionary idea. I do not know of a game where the effects are recognisable and impressive without cluttering the screen, lowering fps, and generally peeving me off. They did an amazing job with the first one, and they left Blizzard so they could do whatever crazy thing hit their fancy. I believe I am liking their fancy.

WTF? No subscription fee?
Well then weapons shopuld have visuall effects on the target, like we saw in 300 or Spartacus, and not a dazzling light or stars emminating from a strike

What he means by this, is the following:

Hehe, I don't quite understand what you meant, care to expand on that?
I'm worried how will all this flashiness look like in a massive open PvP situation... Hope they know what they're doing. Going all out with gfx in an instanced game is one thing.. doing the same in one which is supposed to be capable of displaying 100+ players on screen all firing off their stuff at the same time is quite another.
I believe what he meant was as long as visual effects for weapon fights, in contrary to spell casting, are not over-exaggurated with flashy and sparcling effects it will be fine. With spellcasting we assume its magic so such visual effects are normal and expected but with melee and ranged weapons it would be unusual. Firey sword or ice arrows and similar things wouldn't bother me but as he said "dazzling light and stars emminating from a strike" would be too much for my taste. Well this is just my opinion, maybe Lord.Bachus has a different opinion...
