WOW! That customization is much more extensive than I would have expected. Awesome video.
I know... I loved GTA, Crackdown, even Lemmings lol, but I really thought that this was gonna be just a shallow shoot em up flash in the pan game that RTW would make some money off and just move on.
There are some almost genius elements to this game from what I have seen in terms of community creativity, and RTW actually seem passionate and dedictaed to the project...
I am almost a believer, can't wait to see more as we approach live.
It does have some flashes of genius to be sure, it is still just a shooter really.
... once you start putting gear on you start looking like others ...
You are just speculating Asheram. What makes you assume that the customization in APB is different from CoX and CO?
I guess you didnt read my previous posts and no I am not speculating
I read them, if you were in beta you would know how it works.
ok i guess i am not in the beta because you say so and i guess every starting character doesnt look the same after they all put on their backwards hat and low slung jeans hiding all the "character customizing" they did in the character creator
If you were in beta you would know from the last play test that's not the case. HH, FF or SS?
lol I dont need to prove anything to you and I already know the case every new mmo i have been in regardless of what you made your character to look like you end up looking like what you put on,the only difference here is you can use your own made logos compiled from a set of icons and predrawn pictures to overlap and get a somewhat individual look with the logos attached it still doesnt change the fact that the gear is the same a hat a bandana tshirt sweatshirt/hoodie low slung pants that cover what you created at the character creation screen just with a diff logo,
its a far cry from CO where you make your character and it stays the same as what you made and is a far stretch to find characters that look the same

Ive always been bored with how static the outfits in CO are. Frankly when you get a bunch of people together in CO, the resulting color explosion leaves my retinas singed for days.
Im a little bored with cartoons and comics, Id rather see some realism in games.

So you mean that in CO I can't make a guy with a red cowboy hat, red gunslinger coat, goggles and such, just like your signature picture? Where in APB I can make my own unique tatts, symbols and such, just like the vid shows and somebody can try to copy them but never make identical symbols. I can then apply these unique symbols on whatever I want, like a tattoo or a print on my jeans or even my car... I can also run around in my underwear if I choose to, do that in CO if you can.
I played CoX and CO, and it's not uncommon to see someone that looks similar, maybe just different color combination... that is if you see anyone at all. I saw plenty of 'bumble bee' heroes, gunslinger heroes (I even had one myself), beast type heroes and The Increadable Bulk just to name a few.
Chars staying the same in CO? Yes they do if you don't do any alterations that is possible to do in-game, just like APB.
lol yeah i Know... makes pretty much everything I have seen up to now look kinda poor... even CoH (accepting the genre of the two games allows CoH to offer more exotic options)
sry it doesnt even compare to COH/COV or CO especially after factoring in hats and clothes(after that point your just another face in the crowd with maybe a different logo) both of these games you can make a character to look like you want it to and dont have to worry about a hat or gear covering it up
I already said forgiving the genres that allow more exotic details as part of their lore, such as CoH. We are talking about the engine here, not the frikin ability to put your character into power armour.
Why did you ignore me saying that btw? You son't seem to have comprehended what i typed at all.
APB is most advanced character generation I have ever seen, bar none. I don't see how anyone even remotley objective could even debate it.
In the APB beta social zone wear I ran in to the most people at once all it was was an army of backwards hat wearing t-shirt low pants characters- none of said personal identity was present or to say it better it was buried in a hat/gear which is what happens in any other mmo(even tho this isnt an mmo)
Your confusing the oppurtunity to be creative with most peoples ability to be I would think.
I mean, look at the real world... you can literally wear any clothes you like and how many truly excercise that? ot many. Even the vast majority of 'alternative' types are fashion led sheeple.
WOW! That customization is much more extensive than I would have expected. Awesome video.

99% of games can be stripped down to say 'just a...' though right?
It's the flashes of genius that sets any game above the rest of it's genre.
How many games out there can be said to have any flashes at all? especially in the MMO world? in fact, i don't even remember when the word was even last used in this genre...
lol yeah i Know... makes pretty much everything I have seen up to now look kinda poor... even CoH (accepting the genre of the two games allows CoH to offer more exotic options)

APB might not be as flashy as robot heads and angel wings, but in terms of attention to detail, and the ability to look like a unique individual, APB is lightyears ahead of every other MMO I've seen, including CO and CoX, not to mention strong contenders like AoC and Aion. That's not even including the decal system, that lets players make basic images to use as tattoos or art to put on clothing and vehicles.
Big question is just whether the rest of the gameplay is good enough for players to really care how unique they look.
the gameplay is fun to be honest from what ive seen but it will need to be expanded on
Add this to the LastFM music tagging system and the seeming in deph player creation tools (music, models etc) and I think I will actually be watching this now.
Couldn't agree more! Really sick customization, never seen a better in my pretty long MMO experience.
It is a nice character customization, especially in the facial and body features. About the comparison with CO or CoH, I think they have different objective. The number of categories are less in APB because is basically normal humans, and the model of clothing is more homogeneous so they were able to go deeper with some nice feature like the tatoo and marking moving.
Good job to the APB, I most likely won't play it because GTA style games has never been on my list, but those who like it, it looks promising.
Yes character creator rocks, however as far as customization is concerned it can use more clothing options especially for female characters. But its a new game so i am hoping that a lot will be added at release.

and not only by the devs... the player created clothing etc that will I think boost that pool of otions.
i think many underestimate the role of player created content in this game tbh.

agreed, but thats true of any MMO title i guess. well, apart from the 'fun' part
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
I love player created content, more MMO's should do it in the way Second Life does, it can enrichen and prolong a MMO.
When implemented in a smart way ofc, to prevent too much crap flooding the system.
Agreed.
I think it's amazing as well as they are letting player created content be sold for RTW, which can then be used to buy game time.
"An additional benefit to this evolutionary model is the ability for you to convert your own customisations and rewards to tradable products to give to friends or clan-mates or to place on the Marketplace to earn more RTW points (convertible to game time) or in-game cash."
lol whatever you say, none of my COX chars or CO chars has robot heads or angel wings even tho those 2 things are possible and after you create your look it stays your look was one of my favorite parts of CO is checking out the characters that other people made nothing of which comes close to "your own personal identity" as you say.
In the APB beta social zone wear I ran in to the most people at once all it was was an army of backwards hat wearing t-shirt low pants characters- none of said personal identity was present or to say it better it was buried in a hat/gear which is what happens in any other mmo(even tho this isnt an mmo)
You have to consider you're comparing a game based on Comic Book Super Heroes to a game based on life (realism). Of course people are going to wear what they would normally wear in such a game. Which for a lot of people that's Jeans and a T-shirt. So of course you're going to see tons of that around. How different can a T-shirt look outside of the label/logo?
You'll see a a lot of similar outfits I'm sure, as it's for the most part every-day clothing.
You're basically arguing apples against oranges.
no wasnt comparing the game was comparing making your character look like what you want it to and stay that way not get covered up with hats/helm and gear true you can make your character a little taller and fatter and make some tattoos etc in apb but it gets covered up in the end like very other mmo when you start putting on gear
Oh wow killer123 thats a nice scar you have and awesome how your cheekbones are a few centimeters different than slayers are and did you gain weight?
Actually, you can run around with just your underwear on, or wear one or two or three pieces of clothing. It's all optional, and you can change your look anytime you want to. I bet CoX and CO don't have that feature.
Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.

funny the only thing i see in the post that i am replying to says it makes everything else look poor.....even COH with COH just being a different genre with the ability to make exotic characters so I think I comprehended your post just fine.
And hey I am glad you like APB and it is your right to your opinion about it as it is my right about my opinions but everyone seems to want to respond to me that my opinion is wrong and theres is right .
And seeing that I got a warning from the mods about the NDA on a game that is "SELLING COPIES" of it on its website I wont say any more about APB heaven forbid they dont get anymore blind purchases from people thinking that it is like GTA.
Not sure if this was covered b/c i just dont feel reading thru the mass quoting in the thread. When you first zone into districts players have placeholder graphics, the backwards cap, baggy jeans and a t-shirt, i think its white and some army/olive green. Once everything is loaded in their real outfits/characters will be shown.
The amount of customization surpasses CO plus the fact that you can change everything whenever you want, multiple outfits, adding/subtracting tattoos and other changes to your actual character and not just the clothing. Not sure if ill actually get the game but i do find it hilarious the things that people have come up with for their characters/vehicles
I can see it now. Once you enter an area of hi population or a group of 5 or more run into an area, the LAGG FEST BEGINS! Haha, having to download all of the special graphic updates to see what those people look like is going to kill the game.
That was one of the major problems with SWG. They had all of this reall cool customization ( about 1/10th of what is offered here ) and the lagg when you entered a highly populated zone was incredible.
Good luck with this. I hope they pull it off.
Say hello, To the things you've left behind. They are more a part of your life now that you can't touch them.

i have almost no graphic lag at all when i play. i havent patched and played w/ the new update yet but ppl are saying that load times are a lot shorter etc etc, which was the only issue i had. You can drive around through crowds of people w/ their custom chars and outfits and have no problem w/ lag.

Then awesome! CO and CoH have lots of custom stuff and not much lagg that is noticeable when in large areas. Still. Lots of customization there. So more power to em if they got it right.
Still started to laugh when watching that trailer on character creation and the first thing they show is Boob Enlargement. I thought AWESOME CHARACTER GEnERATION! hehe.
After watching it a bit I got the point others were making tho. It is really interesting on what you can do in game. Still first impressions of the video are STILL Making me laugh.

haha yea, thats what draws people in! Im not sure ill play it on release or not, but i love the customization system they have. Thats always been one of my favorite parts of mmos, the ability to make my char however i want, retarded or not. I decided to try an enforcer so i gave him the normal cop outfit, cop hat, aviator glasses etc...then colored his boxer briefs hot pink and put lucky charms style hearts and stars and crap etc on them and named him officer candypants just to be stupid. You can literally do almost anything.
On the forums someone made a damn close copy of Faith from mirror's edge, looks great

Lol yes. I was sitting with my GF and she was like 'oh right, here we go again... ' :P
I think thats what gets people with this vid... it starts off looking pretty ordinary, then kinda goes nuts
