That's what comes to mind when I think about the true Age of Conan;
A horrible acting performance by Arnold Shwarzenneneger yes but truly a MASSIVE PLOT and an excellent though poorly constructed tome.
Can my character be named and look exactly like Arnold?

Horrible acting? Were you expecting sean connery to play the barbarian? I thought he made a pretty convincing brute.
Pointless poll. Age of Conan is based and licensed on the Conan stories by Robert E howard, not on the movie Conan the Barbarian. The film was the writer's director's and Arnold Swartzenneger's personal interpretation of Howard's creation. So there is no reason anyone in the game Age of Conan should resemble Shwarzenneger in any way. Well unless they add "Govenor of California" as a playable class.

So did Connery, in the film Zardoz.

Screw Arnold, its all about Jason Momoa as Conan now:
First images of Momoa in Conan garb...
More info and pictures from the set here!
The accent alone would screw up the whole thing. Don't we have enough british dominated fantasy movies?
Screw that wannabe Arnold!
I grew up watching Arnold flicks and Conan was freaking awesome!
That new guy looks terrible.
This is why I usually hate remakes.
You can't replace Arnold!
Playing: Rift, LotRO
Waiting on: GW2, BP
Never will beat Arnold. Him and sly are the action movie gods !
True. And it is also true that Arnolds second movie (Conan the destroyer") was better and closer to Howards work but it is still like saying that LOTRO is based on Peter Jacksons 3 movies....
And Howard do have other characters in his world than just Conan, but if you want to make an Austrian looking barbarian, go ahead. It is kinda like making an elf char named Legolas or something similar with different spelling but it is your choice.
And it id Governator of California BTW...
Well, Arnold is actually a master swordsman, really he is. He spent several year training for the first Conan movie and replacing him with someone that doesn't know which end of the blade to hold just wont work.
But saying you can't replace Arnold is wrong, you just can't replace him with this guy. But at least they didn't use Kevin Sorbo (you know, Hercules).
You need a young guy with good physic who also is a excellent fencer. There should be a few of these around.
Anyone else wonders why Conan always have Black hair in pictures and comics BTW? Howard describe him as blonde in the first book at least.
Never really thought about Conans hair color. I know in graphic novels/comics its black and in the movies its a light brown.
I guess Arnold would have looked bad with blond hair.
Playing: Rift, LotRO

Yeah that guy doesn't really look like Conan to me. Something too "pretty boy" about his face. Maybe his acting can take it the rest of the way.

He was last in Stargate: Atlantis and did a damn fine job during that show. He's also cast in the Game of Thrones TV series being filmed for HBO currently. I think he looks just fine to me, but those images don't do him or Conan justice yet as they are too blurry and are not actiony set shots either.
Just looked it up, Arnold was 35 when he filmed the first Conan movie, and Momoa is currently 30, so not a huge age difference...only Arnold had larger muscules which is irrelivant when you look at certain artwork for Conan, so Momoa can fit the part. Lets see how he looks when we actually see the first image or trailer to fully decide if he can pull it off....hehe
"During his reign as king of Aquilonia, Conan was "... a tall man, mightily shouldered and deep of chest, with a massive corded neck and heavily muscled limbs. He was clad in silk and velvet, with the royal lions of Aquilonia worked in gold upon his rich jupon, and the crown of Aquilonia shone on his square-cut black mane; but the great sword at his side seemed more natural to him than the regal accoutrements. His brow was low and broad, his eyes a volcanic blue that smoldered as if with some inner fire. His dark, scarred, almost sinister face was that of a fighting-man, and his velvet garments could not conceal the hard, dangerous lines of his limbs"

Well, I'm not questioning his ability to act, I'm questioning him being cast.
I've looked at some other pictures and other than being a muscular guy his face doesn't fit Conan in my opinion. So it will have to be up to the writing and his acting to help get some of us across that barrier. So sure I guess we'll see.

So he was goth and just dyed his hair black.
To my mind the Mamoa chap looks far too pretty to be Conan.

Not too good a picture, the barbarian fighting Crixus and Spartacus in the middle of the shot, save for the blond hair the guy who played that part summed up for me the true visage of a barbarian.
Those of you who have seen that episode of Spartacus - Blood and Sand would likely agree,
Doesn't he fit the stygian description a bit better than conan's race? Don't see any blue eyes on this islander ...for those who are into the latest fad of re-writing popular literature.
But saying you can't replace Arnold is wrong, you just can't replace him with this guy. But at least they didn't use Kevin Sorbo (you know, Hercules).

So he was goth and just dyed his hair black.
He was Cimmerian which REH likened to Celts in some letters he wrote, most Celts pre-Viking Invasions had dark hair apparently. In the books REH indicated they were Atlantean, so who knows what this fictional race looked like aside from the above and similar quotes.
so maybe they got confused in casting and the casting director said, "lets see...herher....hrmmmm...we need an Atlantean or someone that can pass as Atlantean..." The talent agent, being sober and knowing that Atlantis was a fictional or at least forgotten continent replied "Jason Mamoa is Atlantean," being in some sense accurate since he was on Stargate - Atlantis.
Black hair and blue eyes seems like what we can hang a hat on. Otherwise, I just hope the acting and action is good. He was a badass as Ronin.

Looks like the brooding king to me http://thecimmerian.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/Jason-Momoa.jpg
The following statement is false
The previous statement is true
He looks more like Jack Sparrow's moody little brother to me, but what the heck I say give the guy a shot. It might actually be a good thing if he doesn't fit people's preconceived notion of Conan.
"Gypsies, tramps, and thieves, we were called by the Admin of the site . . . "
Stupid poll/topic Honestly I just hate this guys opinion of the movie and the acting. Arnold played the 'brute" character out like I would of expected.
A man or "gamer" should look for what is, and not for what he thinks should be.
Absolutely. What the world is now is an american actor with a fat Bronx accent to play anything related to medieval times and older.
If it ain't dead you're not pressing 2 hard enough.
