Cartoon, I like realistic graphics, but my computer does not.

It is my opinion, that your opinion is incorrect.

I'm tired of the cartoony crap.

I think Aion had a good blend. SWTOr should've went with that route.

well, by the responses so far, it does look like most (2 out of 3) people prefer a more realistic approach to graphics/avatars. Pity they didn't run a poll like this before deciding on the cartoony graphics (although I guess they decided it not for artistic reasons, but so it could run in more computers)

I don't think you've exactly worded that correctly.

Two out of three people agree that graphics are important or nice, but most if not all say that graphics < gameplay.

As for it running on all computers, I know they said thats what they wanted, as many as possible, but to be honest, the graphic quality actually looks quite good. Style aside some of it is top notch. The environments look brilliant for starters. You've just got to get used to the player models, then you'll really start to enjoy what you see.

No I said it correctly. 65% of the people voting so far prefer the more realistic approach instead of the cartoony approach, but obviously the cartoony approach runs in more machines (ask WoW).  And you (along with 35% of the people according to the poll) prefer the cartoony graphics, but 65% don't, and that's the clear majority.

Funny thing is, I don't mind. I like whatever works in the environment.

Also, if you play KoTOR or KoTOR 2 now, there are similarities between the style. The only true difference is the player models don't have the 'flare' to them as the new ones do. I don't mean they had no flare, but these are supposed to look unique so everything is sort of 'enhanced'.

So yeah, its not a huge step from the kotor graphics.

Considering I haven't played WoW or any other cartoony mmo for more than a few months I'm not going to have a fit and say I'm tired of it. But if you look at KOTOR and then at SWTOR it seems to feel just right. its not like Star wars was never cartoonized in its long popular history.

I honestly wish I could pray intelligence in to people who think AoC, EQII, or Vanguard has realistic lookin graphics.

my sentiment exactly, I've wondered for the longest why people feel some pixels look more realistic than others.....

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

And the Aion cite baffles me even more. When did the real world ever look like an anime? This is close as you're going to get:

    realistic video game.

That's a screen cap from Aion. Yet another game where Hitler was the primary antagonist.. It's getting old.

so you're ok if avatars are just bouncing dots, I mean, who cares right?

Get over it or don't play.

Lol there is a huge difference in say how WoW or TOR look and something like Lotro, FFXI, or AoC. Basically the difference being Cartoon and more realistic.

I would not say all MMOs have cartoony graphics at all. Just because it is not real life or it being a fantasy type game or whatever does not mean it has cartoony graphics.

In my opinion, for TOR the cartoony stuff is meant to reel in the adults as well as the younger audience of gamers. It as all about the money do not kid yourself.  On top of trying to cater to people who have ancient computers.

Take Dragon Age:Origins, okay, the game itself might not be that exciting, but the graphics are really good, so why can't TOR have the same type of graphics, its the same company, so they already own the graphical engine or whatever, and considering the amount of money they've ploughed into this game (apparently!) so why are the graphics inferior to a game they've already released? if they did im pretty sure more people would be inclined to at least try the game..

Lol I find that very funny. Especially because you took a shot at people when you are completely wrong.  All three of those games are meant to have realistic graphics and do for their repspective times of release. Just because the game has elements and creatures and such that do not exist in real life does not mean the game cannot look realistic.

Characters, towns, creatures are all created to make them look real, not like they are from a cartoon that an 8 year old would watch like some MMOs graphics (WoW, TOR, WAR).

They sure as hell do not. AoC tried to look like the Dark Horse comic book and Frazetta paintings. Both super styilized and hardly realistic. That's more atune to Saturday Morning style drawing and proporitons. Some texture and lighting affects inspired by film making, realistic it is not.

How many elves you've seen running around? Did they look like EQIIs? Those fairy starting zones looked just like New Jersey didn't they? And if I've ever met a human woman with the spine adjustment like those in Vangaurd I'd promptly suggest she go to a chiropractor and get fixed.

They're not realistic graphics in the slightest sense of the word realistic. The only video game mentioned the whole time in this discussion that ever had the idea of using real proportions and movement dynamics has been Dragon Age, and it's not a MMO.

Lol like i said before just because something does not exist in real life does not mean it can not be meant to be depicted in a realistic way. It is a waste arguing with people like yourself. You only agree with what you think so it does not matter.

  • eburneburn Member Posts: 740

    Offer a legit counter argument.

I'm saying you're daft if you think there's any MMO that looks realistic. What makes WoW cartoony are the same things that makes EQ2 cartoony.

If you're decieved by your opinion, you're completely entitled to it. But, in art direction terms, realistic proportions and lighting has only been done by a handful of MMOs. Earliest example AO with the latest example being Crimecraft. This includes texturing, lighting, and modeling. Proportions and design do matter. EQII.. Man I bet their own artists will tell you they took a high fantasy route with the art direction and they did so successfully. If anyone think that's more realistic looking than the stylized artwork shown for TOR.. It's hard arguing with people who have no sense of anything really.

"It's brown and bloom, it's REAL!" Oi. You people are why bad games exist.

I like the graphics but just hate the player character models.

  • RedRaptor22RedRaptor22 Member Posts: 44

Aside from the feet, faces and out of scale lightsaber hilts I really don't see anything very cartoony compared to most other mmos, I think the designs look ten times more realistic than the clonewars series, especially when fully armored "which I will be" so the faces won't be an issue.

Even the sith pictures with the brathers and masks look way more realistic than the clonewars since you can't see the exagerated nose and mouth structure, the world and items dont look overly cartoony to me either, again....not as bad as clonewars looks.

     What he said.

No mmo looks realistic. It's all art and style. Kind of cool that they've got a unique look if you ask me. Yes it is unique, compare a picture of this to a picture of world of warcraft and you'll see how silly you've been comparing them.
