Love AoC or hate it the simple fact is that AoC still has a mass of players that still enjoy it and keep the Funcom Devs employed and the updates coming.
It's somewhere between 100k-125k if I took a stab at it right now.
and how did you arrive at that figure? I would guess it is less than half of your numbers. I doubt if AoC has seen more than 75K since the fall of 2008. I followed the Xfire number from launch until underwent had a dramatic and unexplainable increase of over 50% in December of 2008.
Anyway it goes, does not look like there is alot of interest in the gaming world over the expansion.

I'm playing the game right now, it's so much fun I feel sorry for people who don't have the computer specs to try it. Over the last week there have been a huge influx of new and resubbed players. Everywhere you go in the game you are seeing people asking for group and saying they resubbed after two years off. It's general high spirits in the game right now and I think a lot of it has to do with the free added areas and content that made 1-80 much smoother and the expansion pack is rumored to be gigantic and a lot of fun. I'm having a great time and see a big future for age of conan. In another year when the average computer specs are a little higher this is going to be a tough game to beat no doubt about it.
There is obviously tons of interest in the expansion from current subscribers and a ton of resubbed and new sub players pouring in lately so you do the math.

Keep dreaming and gloating and hoping, while others like me will actually play and be having fun, enjoying the expansion (and no, I saw no need in trying the beta either)
But keep on hating and hoping AoC and the expansion will fail, if that's what floats your boat.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
This pre-launch NDA policy of Funcom is a paradigm of the company's continuous failure to develop a stable and functional MMO. No proper feedback and public access to tier 4 equals broken endgame and post-launch vicious cycle of patches. There's absolutely nothing that can be gained by holding the NDA days before launch. But what really surprises me is the total lack of everything following this distribution of free beta keys - who is actually playing the game? Is this open beta now? Where's the sneak peak?
Are you telling me it's perfectly justified that I know nothing about the actual state of the expansion days before launch, even though I preordered the game and got charged already? As a customer I'm not entitled to see ONE SCREENSHOT of the Tier 4 raid? Of this is so, then why am I entitled to all those things as a Blizzard customer (SC2 beta, WotLK beta, Cataclysm alpha, to name a few). Why was I able to view the actual tier 7 WotLK raids from players months before the game got launched and I can't see a single screenshot of tier 4 RotGS raid?
... and another hater trying to camouflage it by seemingly "reasonable" arguments.
'Why is Aoc not like WoW'? 'Why isn't Funcom doing things like Activision Blizzard'? 'Why aren't Funcom handling their expansion release like Activision Blizzard does'? 'Why, why, WHY' ?!?!?
I suggest you wait for a few weeks and cool off from your constant anti-AoC rage in the meantime, you could use the break.
The truth is, that you actually do have a point with saying the NDA is very strict compared to other MMO's and that FC is keeping its cards very close to the chest. And it's common sense to not dive into the hype too deep (any hype of any MMO actually), but to wait and see a few weeks after launch if they've learnt their lesson from the AoC launch.
But that's not what this is about, is it? What will you do when after a few weeks it seems the expansion is stabler and far less buggy than AoC launch was and the majority of the people are actually enjoying themselves in the expansion, having fun? Will you start thinking that apparently FC has learnt their lesson this time and risen to the occasion and that the expansion seems to be a good thing for the game and the player population? And will you post stuff like that?
Very probably not. You'll probably continue trying to find other arguments to keep talking AoC into the ground, keeping the anti-AoC flames burning in your posts and unwilling to hear that there could be anything good about AoC.

Oh I am sure AoC and it's expansion will be just as huge a success as Anarchy Online and it's expansions were. Like the original post said, 3000 free keys and only 2000 taken, that really says it all

My point is wholly valid and you are just being presumptuous and rude, not to mention this whole "hater" policy seems to stem from you, in fact.

Yes, I was getting annoyed with singleminded doomsayers who love to see everything regarding AoC in a negative light and who revel in posting anti-AoC posts. If I swept you unjustified with them, then my apologies, I only read your posts in this thread and reacted upon those.
The NDA, it makes me frown too and warning people not to go blindly into the hype is one thing, but here's the other thing: if it makes you wary to the point of careful and suspicious about the expansion, then the best thing to do is wait for a few weeks and gather impressions of people who're playing it about the points you're interested in, before obtaining the expansion.

6000 downloads now Jack, not even adding into the PRE-exisiting amount with it.

And...you are wrong yet again. You will be surprised how many people downloaded the beta. So thats three strikes now Jack. What is next?

Well excuse me! My carefully crafted and collated WEBSTATS prove otherwise, it is the truth, this tells me all I need to know about the expansion for AoC. ha! (sarcasm)
Hardly a basis for measurement of success. DL amount is not indicative of greatness etc.
The figures could be up to 10k downloads, for all I care. What I do care and am suspicious of is the total absence of ANY reaction from these supposed beta downloaders. Indifference an inherent trait of anyone who plays AoC before release?
actually pre launch there were many concerned players that felt like the game isn't ready.
As for no feedback. There is no big forum that would not be controlled by funcom. Everywhere you go and post about the game the thread will be closed in matter of minutes due to NDA.
Also, the lack of news is actually more of a good thing than a bad thing. Because people will much more often come and cry about how game was fucked up than to say that it is awesome (only fanboys do that more or less)
Oh and I am STILL not playing beta. 2 days download PLUS 3 hours update. Hell, probably majority just started to play today. A big failure for FC since they could just use the old rdbdata in some sort of update instead of forcing everyone to download 18 gigs of data
