I think WOW would be the best. It's very straightforward, good for solo or duo play, has a big colorful world, and is pretty fun. There are also a lot of different things you can do, so it appeals to many different tastes. Also, it requires low system specs to run and still is very beautfiul/artistic at times, but this is purely subjective.
LOTRO also is a good game but I think is boring compared to WOW. I would only try LOTRO if she can't stand WOW graphics. WOW is much more fluid in animation and combat and feels more alive to me.
An "Intro" to MMOs? You need an MMO-Lite. Perhaps something like Runescape or Puzzle Pirates. Then gently ease into a full-blown subscription MMO after a few weeks or months.
agreed.
Have her try Free Realms. Its mmo-lite. and actually kind of fun. It offers a variety of different things to do, most of which are easy and fun.
lol why would you go to free realms a childs mmo over Battle of the Immortals they both are free i see but.............
Maybe it is a "child's game" I'm not sure if that was there target or not. Either way, I am an adult and i like to play it sometimes. Its fun. My wife likes to play it as well. She likes the way it looks, and she likes that it isn't some huge timesink. Just something she can get on and play for a little while and get that feeling of accomplishment. My wife usually HATES games
My girlfriend is a gamer, the MMO's she has liked have been WOW, Guild-Wars and AOC. Most of all was AOC, as she preferred it's female models over the rest, as well as the base races all being human.

Just trying to help.
I apologize I wasnt trying to be offensive to you it was just the genre of free realms but your post shows me that is not a factor
if you and your wife hasnt tried Battle of the Immortals you should I am pretty confident your wife at least would like it
I am sorry tho i meant no offense i reacted off my apologies
All the answers are pretty good, But I ould have to agree on either WOW or LOTRO for a first timer. Also go for the free trials, you could try a few different ones then.
Find out how she is with pvp? Because lotro is not pvp orientated my GF loves it. It has nice communitys who talk and socialise more than max lvl frenzy pvp folk
I tried getting my wife to play EQ2, WoW, Lotr and Aoc. She liked Aoc the best and actually got higher level then I did in it. We don't really play anything right now but she still mentions it ever now and again.
I'd say have her try a few free trials and see what she likes before you buy or resub to something.
Any suggestions for a game my wife could play as an introduction to MMO's? She tells me she wants to try one out. Not sure as to why, but what the hell, if it means more game time for me, I'll play along.
Again, suggestions? - THANKS -
Guild Wars if she like fast paced quazi-mmorpg action w/o hastle of little kids making boob jokes... since it's instanced. But seriously, a lot of women play it, but not sure of the stats.
Second Life. Social&gaming sandbox with a 50% population of women from 1.5 million players each month(unique). The only true "mature" community since under 18 is against TOS; kids have their own version of sl. Can play for free, just tons of freebies, though good to get at least a little currency at some point.
My GF and I both play MMORPGs and about 7 months ago started playing a game called Darkfall. At first she was afraid of the PVP aspect of the game and that it is FFA with full loot. After about a month of playing with me (I had xp from playing on EU server before NA was released) she immediately fell in love with the game. She ended her WOW subscription along with any other game on the side and now plays Darkfall 100% because it is a sandbox game and there is always something to do and no end game. She dies less than I do even though I am the one who is known for being the PVPer and plays the game more than I do. We started out the game PVPing almost everynight (even though that people claim that you need to become 'viable' first we always had a lot of success) but lately have really been enjoying the PVE the most because we go to the 'hotspots' if we want to spice things up or out to the safe spot if we are not feeling like we are on the ball. So many choices on what to do really, we never run out of things to do!
The last few times that we have played we got engaged in batlles that lasted over 20 minutes of the biggest rush that we have ever gotten from a video game. I really cannot explain how awesome this game is with all of the bad reviews and whiners in the forums but I definitely know that I speak for the both of us by recommending that you check it out and if you do, we would love to roll with you. You do not need to worry about levels like other games as you can play with friends regardless of their level (thing that sucks about most MMORPGs is that if one person plays more than the other than the level difference will hurt because you are forced down a path).
You are welcome to come into our vent and chat some time! Send me a PM in these forums as I check them while I am at work often. We are around 30 and play with a couple of other couples as well (tongue twister lol). We pretty much run solo and take on the world! PVP is easy to avoid if you want to and easy to find if you want to. The PVE, controls, 'realisic' feel of the game, no limits and no instances and no invisible walls, and everything else are all very fun. I can go on and on and on about how much more this game has to offer than others (check my previous posts in other threads lol) but you can check it out for yourself here:
Also, we just started making a website for sharing what we are doing in Agon for friends/family/gamers. Starting to fraps stuff more and going to liven up our game by holding event and contests and stuff. We only play with a very tight group of people but I know that if I told her that another girl was interested she would encourage me to tell about us and how much fun we have.
Hope you find what you are looking for!

I started my wife out on UO then we went to eq2 and she is now a hardcore raider in eq2 and she loves it.
