Warning DO NOT waste your time or money on this game. It is very boring and very poorly done. You can not explore planets and meet diffrent cultures, You can not explore earth and planets in the sol system, Very lame pvp the worse I have ever seen in my 15 years of playing mmos. I am a trekie and this is a insult to the star trek name. The klingon side got the shaft from cryptic you can only do pvp and explore missions only and half of the mission dont even work. The ships or even worse they or not even close to having all the ships and federation members run around with cloaking armour and klingon weapons. The game is just totaly done wrong they should have hired bioware to do the game cryptic is a poor company that make star wars galaxies a much better and well done game

You're preaching to the converted here. I'm surprised the game is still causing comment.
I'm seeing so much hate for STO. Do you (and other's who feel the same) think there is NOTHING that could ever be done to fix this game?
Im glad I stopped pre-ordering games after Warhammer. Its too bad you can EXPECT sub par MMOs these days.
No. It's flawed from design. For me Star Ship is where you can fly in 360 degrees and fly directly up/down and in STO the space is represented by a box. There is no exploration and diplomancy all you is fight pretty much.

Oh yeah, I stopped pre-ordering and usually wait a few months after release before even trying it. I haven't tried STO yet, but something is disturbing me about all the hate it's getting.
I haven't played STO so I don't understand. It would take a lot for me to feel like a game is a total waste and there would be no way to save it. This is probabaly one of our only chances for a Star Trek MMO. Just seems like a lot of butt hurt instead of good honest reviews.
Sometimes the community feels so shallow and people will start saying it sucks because other's do. I would like to know a little more about why it sucks if people have the time to share.
Could this not be fixed. I've seen some flawed designs but this doesn't sound like one of them.
I would want explorations and some type of diplomatic discourse, I feel that is an essential part of star trek. The shows have taken a variety of approaches, Star Trek is a large IP. It would take time to nail that into a playable experience.
The game is just badly-made, horribly implemented and flawed from the ground up. It's even worse than Hellgate was, and that's saying something. How anyone could look at Star Trek and come up with a concept like this for a game is a mystery.
More one post account bashing STO? yeah ok.... also fed ships can not cloak in the game. Half of the missions don't even work? except for couple of fleet actions which were broken for a long time i had no problem completing any mission in the game.
Of course it could be fixed. I also could be the next prime minister of England. Imo both are just as likely to happen.
In its way it is a good game (please note: still wouldn't trust a game made by the same company again). It needs more doing to it than currently is being done. Rather than try and rope all their users into getting their friends to buy and stick with a mediocre game, making it a decent mmo, rather than a mediocre one would be a better option.
Instead of having about 3 missions, repeated but for locale, they could try having different ones. You fly in, shoot some ships, fly out again. Listening to their customers, instead of having no way of contacting anybody, bar a badly run tickets system is another option.
Cryptic have plenty of options, but they're after the ones that will get them money the quickest, not ones which will entice ppl to go back to playing, which is what they need.
There have been plenty of people describing exactly what they feel is wrong with the game.
Also, describing the complaints of others who have bought and played the game as sounding "butthurt" when you, by your own admission, haven't spent a dime on nor a minute in the game yourself, seems pretty absurd to me. If you feel it would take a lot for the game to disappoint you that much, and all these other people are just "butthurt", then why not take the plunge yourself, buy a copy and come to your own conclusions?

Very few times have I heard the expression 'flawed from the ground up' and it actually be correct. Are you saying that there is no way that they could fix it? What are some examples?
A very suspicous post, makes a remark about the game then disappears into the woodwork never to be heard of again, typical of these types of rants, no substance just anger.
It's a trend, game releases then after the honeymoon period we have the die hard fans of the films/series reject the game, very much as they did with SWG, had a friend who had never played an MMO wait along with me for SWG to release, Starwars was his passion, he lasted all of a week within the game, "It isn't Starwars" was his answer and promptly quit, he's also a WAR 40k nut and I'm not bothering to tell him they are making an MMO.
True fans of the IP in general don't make good customers of the game, it invaribly won't be what they invisioned for the game and as such will be disappointed, yet MMO gamers understand that it's almost impossible to replicate what you see on the screen to what you will eventually play.
However I've given STO a try, it's nothing vastly different than whats on offer, it's a pleasant experience but it hasn't drawn me in like other games have, then again I've never been a big fan of space combat, though I did enjoy the ground missions and liked the over all look and feel of the game.
So OP not gonna tell me since when feds can cloak in STO?
LOL, I could completely understand that. What you don't understand is that the opinion of people like who have not played it is being altered by all the hate. I have read very few posts that even gave good logical reasons why they didn't like it.
Seems more like sheep rather than good reviews.
Wait a second, yes if this was done before or on release.
Why as MMO gamers should we WAIT for a game to be fixed into playability ? What has happened to these guys who are so blind about Cryptic and STO ? I love Star Trek, but i am not going to ignore the overwhelming negative response the GAMERs who played this trash heap and have repeatedly warned anyone they can to " STAY THE HELL AWAY "
Have we as MMO consumers really just accepted the kind of treatment Cryptic perpetrates to its customers as just the "norm" now ?
SOE ruins SWG and writes off its loyal player base as replacable. While its taken them years to get passed this negative stigma, to this day many SWG vets still despise SOE for this.
Funcom is still derided for failing to live up to there pre release hype for Age of Conan, they release a new expansion soon, but even though AOC is doing alot better then release, people still do not forget . Heck people still remember Anarchy Onlines dismal release ... MONTH.
SO what am i getting at here?
When is enough ? When do we stop taking the crap these corporate asshats keep shoveling us ? Indie devs are few and far between when its comes to MMOs. We have to stand up for our rights as free consumers, start demanding that games we purchase are actually the game we were promised... on release, not 5 or 6 months down the road.
So yeah getting back on topic, STO is a complete embarrassment to the Star Trek universe, the only thing it has in common with Star Trek is the name and the copied ship models. I do not remember a single Star Trek episode where the lead captain goes out of there way to engage in all out homicidal assault on every ship and sentient life form. Star Trek was never never never about mindless destruction, Cryptic has turned a vessel of exploration diplomacy and occasional action into a terribad space combat shooter.
Anyhow, send in the clowns, i am sure there will be some Lifetime subbers who will come in now and persoanlly attack me for denigrating there beloved game, (really there just attempting to justify there illogical purchase).
My friend you have given light to the subject.
It seems that lately the trend has gotten worse. People are not expressing themselves honestly but have become lazy and lash out if nothing creative comes to mind. What they don't understand is they could make a difference if only they put a little time and thought into their rants.
Thank you for your post.
Its funny that no one is even realising that all the information in OP's post is wrong and misleading. i asked him to explain himself but i guess he don't want to because i caught his bull shit. I don't mind if players want to critcise the game, its their right. But atleast do it properly without resorting to lying. You lose all credibility that way.
Just proves how many actually played the game here rofl!!
Well I al got to say is sto did to Star Trek, what the Abrahms movie did to the franchise. That my friends was to taint the name and destroy 35 years worth of lore.
I agree with the op, STO is an insult to the True Trekie, as was the Abrahms movie. All I can say is shame on cryptic for turning out such a worthless game. However when I say that we also have to point at the dozens of other RPG Star Trek games that turned into steaming piles of you know what.
It is such a same with a decent IP that nobody seams to get it right.
I keep watching and waiting to see how this game went but I can see that it is never going to get any better, and watching crypitic anouce that vet rewards and oh your time goes backward even if you were not playing. I call that desperation.
Let the game die, and hope somebody can pick it up and re-do it better.
ONE huge problem that STO has is the engine it was built on.. The Craptic engine is pure arcade style instancing. To greatly improve this game to the standards that most expected and wanted would require a "REFIT".. This means scrapping the current engine and coming up with a new one.. However, we all know that isn't going to happen.. Cryptic used the CO engine to cut corners ( $$$$ ).. For them to come up with a complete new engine tailored for STO would have taken years extra that they can't afford, and at this point it's dead in the water..
I believe 99% of us here would agree that Cryptic will use the exact same engine again for their next MMO.. ZZZZzzz oh well..
I feel no pity for greedy developers. I would hate to lose an excellent IP but greed can not be patched. I understand that they want to make money, but $10 a month is still more than zero.
Thank you for posting a thought out response.
There are people happily playing the game.

Because that's the nature of MMO games. A game is never finished and people quickly forget that is how it was done in the beginning. Now we expect completely finished games and we still never get them. Do you know how large a MMO universe is, it would be impossible to suggest that we get a complete world in the time they have to develop them. Not only that but I wouldn't want to play a game like that because it is the players that actually shape the MMO. Nonetheless, that should not be an excuss for giving players something that is not enjoyable or worth the money to play it.
You can't be that short sighted to no see that there is no large corporate asshat trying to feed you shit. They want your money. There is a huge gap in communication between the players and developers. Misunderstandings from both ends can lead to failure.
STO being a complete embarrassment to the Star Trek universe is your opinion. You do have a good point following up that comment but it's merely a shadow in your ability to communicate clearly your disappointment.
Completely wrong. The problem isn't that the fans (except for a few) are too demanding, it's that the companies making these games are never satisfied with pleasing just the fans of the IP. They want the big score. A piece of the general MMO market. A game can't appeal to both - making the game mainstream will cost it much of the style and flavour of the IP. Which costs you the fans.
STO used the IP as a marketing tool to sell boxes. The game was never designed for Trek fans. That was their biggest mistake.

Really? I've read plenty, and I've read a number of reviews on gaming sites that labeled the game as mediocre at best.
The principal reasons (which at least I would call "good logical" ones) are from memory; (i) the boxed/instanced nature of space, (ii) the lack of entertaining gameplay built around the themes of diplomacy and exploration that make the IP so good in the first place, (iii) the failure to have certain things at lauch such as PvE content for Klingons, and (iv) the missions quickly become repetitive.
The hate for Cryptic is associated with STO because many people - me included - feel they agreed to make this game on terms that inevitably meant a shallow game. I'm really referring to the development time they agreed to. This combined with their marketing strategies suggests, to be blunt, that they are in for the quick dollars and have no ambitions to make an MMO that "respects" the IP.
I sincerely hope they fail to make a profit because us gamers will lose out if the Cryptic "strategy" is seen to work. We will just get more and more poor quality MMOs a la STO.
Hope that helps.
