Don't mess with GnG buddy, it gave me more fun then anything cryptic have tossed out lol.

Actually, this was the first MT game I ever played tbh... it was the first arcader I remember playign clearly (there prolly wre ones before that i didnt see) that let you put another 10p in to keep playing if you died... You could actually pay to win, if you had the money. I spent a fortune on that machine, but then i was very young, very addicted, and very naive I guess.

Seems like the basic requirement for MT to work hasnt changed much tbh.

    Hmm...and I thought I was sore at Cryptic.  Not...even....close.

You never know they could actually surprise us.  I'd rather give ppl another chance before I go off at them.

Your right we are we have been assimilated into the collective and all come to the conclusion that we really dislike cryptic and do not want them to destroy another IP.

Haha, well I know that at least in your case you played at least one of the games.  What worries me is the folks who say things like "by all accounts their games have been terrible", or who bash Champions based on STO.   If I go into an MMO having heard so many bad things, then I will probably give up before giving the game a chance (MMOs have a steep learning curve, especially the complex open build system with Champions).

The thing that makes me puke the most is that if this continues all the small developers like Cryptic will be forced out of producing MMOs, and I will quit the genre because nothing pukes me out more than WoW and ToR type games that play it safe using game design from 30 years ago so that they can appeal to a mass audience.  Is that what you guys want?   WoW and ToR?  Because I promise that is what you are asking for, whether you know it or not.   You should think about what all this torch-burning is going to get you in the end:  mainstream games designed for TV-watching Facebook-using MTV-listening idiots.

Cryptic is a small developer, and at least with Champions they did several innovative things, like the open build system.   I am so tired of classes, and so ToR makes me puke with their WoW classes.   I want innovation, and to have that we need small developers.   You guys are helping to make sure that only the largest and most watered down mainstream games get produced in the future.  You aren't accomplishing anything good at all.

and yet HI-REZ can do a different game with being indie? gtfo this is not about indie, this a bout shity games and a plan to copy paste ame. re skin them and trying to get suckers in, in order to $$$ your next game.sto is what 6 monthes old and they are working on yet another mmo? shit CO is a year old? how about putting some content into those games b4 you rush on rush to make another fail mmorpg.

    I 3930k -- Rampage IV Extreme -- G.skill RipjawsZ 32 GB -- Corsair Force Series 3 120gb -- G.skill Phoenix Pro 60gb -- WD 1 TB Black -- Corsair H 100 -- Thermaltake Level 10 Gt Snow Edition -- Corsair AX1200 -- Asus 560 Ti Sli -- Microsoft Sidewinder X4 -- Logitech G5 -- DELL UltraSharp 2007FP -- Samsung Syncmaster Sa700 -- Logitech Z2300 -- Logitech G35 -- Logitech G600 White -- coming soon : Dell U2711.

Apparently not content with releasing two MMOs in the past seven months alone, Cryptic Games already has a new game in the works. While the studio isn't too keen on revealing too much yet, MMO fans will be treated to an announcement this summer.

Speaking to MMORPG.com, Cryptic design director Bill Roper said that this new game will be a pleasant surprise.

"I can't speak to the specifics of what we're doing, but it's true that we have another game in the works," he said. "We won't be making an announcement until late summer, and we're still a ways off from launch.

"I can say that this is a game and a franchise we're very excited about. I think people are going to pleased and a bit surprised with what we're doing in terms of the game, how we make it, and even how we sell and support it."

There have been rumors before that Cryptic is doing an MMO based on the Forgotten Realms franchise. I guess we'll find out if that's true or not by late summer.

Such a pity, I want a forgoten realms mmo but not made by cryptic, most mmo players by now know how is are the cryptic mmos.

You will be able to run instanced missions that will have your blood pumping as if you were sleeping!! OMG!!!!! That sounds so BAD ASS. I hope you guys are ready for this last part. You buy the game, but then you actually have to buy being able to make a characters, buy each level, buy each race, and BUY EACH MISSION using their very own cash shop!!!!!

    Who's excited???????? I KNOW I AM!!! OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you absolutely sure your sources are credible?! Cause hot damn this sounds like the game I have been waiting for all my life.

I hope it's a Call of Duty MMO. That way it will actually make sense for them to release a new game every 3 months /fail

First let me say I do not subscribe to STO or CO, neither are my cup of tea, BUT I will give a D&D title by Cryptic a chance.

Too many people are crying about how horrible the game is going to be in their hands simply because STO didn't pan out the way they liked, and CO is CoH dumbed down. We ALWAYS find a reason to hate on something when it isn't the way we envisioned. To that I say create your own masterpiece then, at least that way it WILL be the way you envision....Maybe, just maybe, that's what Cryptic is going to do, give us a base world (Faerun, Krynn or whatever), but also give us the toolset to create our own stories/quests/adventures/campaign/modules (whatever you want to call them) within the base world IE: Ryzom.

And maybe, rather than paying a subscription fee, you buy the box, and pay for upgrades for your own adventures, IE: Monster Manuals that add more critters/NPC's, Relics and Artifacts Manuals that add more magic items/weapons/armor, Prestige Class Manuals to add more character customization options... Just a thought.

If there is a gaming god DO NOT LET THESE PEOPLE LOOSE WITH ANY MORE GOOD IP's.

I have been forced into using caps.... that is how talentless and scam filled I find Cryptic, as I said elsewhere on the forums I will lose a little bit of my gaming soul if they get to make NWN 3.

What I hate about Cryptic is not the games they make, its not even the added on "Cash shop" I can understand corperate greed in one of the few remaining growth industries.

what I hate is that they like so many other game companies stifle innovation, the Cryptic "Engine" is the work horse and then they just add a few skins rename a few abilities and release it as a game.  That is what I hate, they then do this B.S business model where they are "live developing" the game or something.  Some pleb on these forums links it in his signature as a defence of Cryptics malpractise.  As if releasing games with next to no content and hardly any of the "on the box promises" fulfilled is acceptable because "they are putting our money towards developing it".

That is why I will never buy anything from Cryptic, I would rather give my money to Blizzard, atleast they delivered Finished products.

Wow you can really feel the love for cryptic in this thread.

  • WSIMikeWSIMike Member Posts: 5,564

I'd heard before that they were rumored to be working on the NwN franchise.

Unless they pull of some kind of miracle... well... given how I love Neverwinter Nights... I'm not even getting my hopes up with the Cryptic name on it.

It's like they're becoming the Uwe Boll of video games.... Give 'em a good IP and they ruin it.

Doesnt really matter what IP it is with Cryptic making it.

Will be another half arsed rushed out the door game and they will try and sell as many boxes as they can with the lifetime sub scam offers.

No Thanks. No matter what they wont get my money.

    Yes and no.

People are complaining because Cryptic made it very clear that their intention is to continue to produce games like CO and STO. Their entire strategy is based on having an engine + toolkit to be able to 'mass'-produce MMOs on a 2 year cycle.

Now, both STO and CO are games that really stretch the definition of MMORPG. Both games were released unfinished, extremely light on content, are heavily instanced and, when you look closely enough, clearly show that they come from the same mold.  I'm not even going into things like selling life-time subs only prior to launch, the awkward relation between Cryptic and its customers, C-store etc.

Based on everything we know, whatever game they have in the works now will be similar to CO and STO (same engine, same tools, similar art style, scope). The limitations of their platform may have worked for a game like CO (which could have been better with more content), but certainly didn't work for a space game and will be problematic for a rich and beloved IP like FR, at best. Add lack of "massive" and content into the mix and you can see whay people have little faith in this new title.

But maybe the 3rd one is a charm, eh? They had enough time to practice after all ^^

I understand where you're coming from, based on STO and CO. You have to recall that even with two failures, people loved CoH/CoV. And I am just pointing out that we haven't even seen anything yet, and we are quick to say "Oh dear god don't let Cryptic touch it", without knowing what direction they are even taking it in.

I don't know anything about their engine, but whose to say that it can't be tweaked... Also, have they given us a Fantasy title like D&D before? (I'm serious, I only know of the three games I've mentioned)

No matter what IP they butcher err produce next, I get the feeling it will be another MMO-lite grab at box sales.

I truly hope it isnt DnD Forgotten Realms based.

Hopefully Atari has to give up the license in the future to pave way for another company handling the IP. If BW hadnt come up with their own world(DA), I would want them to get it. BG 1 & 2 were awesome....not to mention NWN.

Even though I dont see BW in the mix doesnt mean another company/companies couldnt do better justice for the IP than Atari. Which is kind of saddening, seeing as 2 of my first 3 gaming systems were 2600 and 5200(colecovision was other for those around in early 80s also).

But seeing as this isnt the same company(Atari was bought out), I guess it wont bother me too much if they have to fold(couple of major lawsuits pending).

If Atari were to fold, it is my opinion that Cryptic should do the MMO world a favor by following Atari into the graveyard. Although I suppose if they were under different ownership they could change their ways.

Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.

Not going to bother with any of cryptics games (or sony)

    I can already see it.

Instance spree with repetitive content galore.

    No thanks.

  • TorgrimTorgrim Member CommonPosts: 2,088

When STO was in the production CO was left behind It wasen't a priority to finish that half made MMO with cryptic store, just read the boards and talk to reg CO players how they feel they were left behind.

Now when STO are done with the same half made shallow excuse of a MMO with the same engine as CO is using.

Let's not forget that famouse 45 days patch that should have according to Cryptic have a huge boost in content and other stuff, it turned out to be some fleet fights more goodies in cryptic store and more bugs.

Now Cryptic are working yet again on another MMO.

You don't have to a rocket scientist to see a pattern forming.

So i hope to whatever god who is listening that Cryptic are not working on such a deep and great IP as Forgotten Realms becuse they have allready ruined 2 IP's.

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.

I'm into classic fantasy, so unsurprisingly, I havent played any Cryptic MMO yet.

Star Trek Online sounded nice until I checked out how they implemented it. Well ... meh. I had trouble imaging how a Star Trek MMO would work nicely, and apparently these developers had even more problems with it than I had.

But about Neverwinter Nights online, why you're upset ? We already saw how badly that one failed with D&D Online. I really fail to see the idea of having a D&D MMO. D&D had simply not been developed for a MMO. Its troublesome enough for singleplayer games. Its even more problematic for multiplayer like NWN. But for MMOs, thats just something I do NOT want to experience, thanks a lot.
