I would like a "Maybe" or "Haven't decided yet" option to the poll.
That is what my answer would be. Cata seems like a great expansion, I have no doubt about that. However, I'm well tired of the game and I'm not sure that another expansion can lit the dying candle a third time.
We'll see when it's closer to release, if I'll pick up on the hype or not. Afterall it's always the very same book we're reading, it's just a new cover with an additional ending to it.
I am fairly positive they'll open up new servers for Cata, and allow now transfers for a while.
With the re-make of all the 1-60 content it'd be stupid not too!
Even on an established server, I garauntee they'll be thousands creating new goblins and worgen, along with people doing the new class/race combos like Tauren paladins, human hunters, etc.
Cata indeed seems great, and it looks like its going to have some good, and some bad updates in it.
However, I highly doubt that I will be resubbing. After I quit WoW, I really havent missed it at all. It has been fun watching how the updates go and what they include, but well, thats pretty much it. I dont have the "WoW-feeling" anymore.
I'm seriously tired of the "lets make it easier" mentality to WoW. I miss vanilla it was beyond fun, now theres barely a reason to leave town due to the LFG system, the majority of pvp is instanced (which I've never been a fan of), and the best world pvp is ganking the random material farmer or lowbie and one small town.
After gearing a mage in full epics with maybe 1 small raid that only got me an off hand i realized even though he looked awesome it was way to simple and boring. Who wants to pay for a persistent world that has lost any value in playability. Some effort makes the result worth more.
When I first heard of Cataclysm the changes sounded cool, but the changes prior have ruined the game for me.
So, my answer to the pole is a solid No. Which sucks because I hate being without an mmo, hopefully Aion will hold me over for a while.
I'm currently still playing, but I might unsub because of some of the changes in Cat.
Spefically, I co-lead an RP guild with my wife, and we both Raid outside of our guild in a raid-alliance composed of friends between various different guilds, some RPers, some not. Because of the way Blizzard is deciding to change raiding and the whole guild leveling mechanic, is seems that raid alliances are at a severe disadvantage. As it is, those leading the raid alliance I'm apart of are pushing for it's members to shift into one single guild if the changes are released as is (or fairly close to how they currently are).
At this point, it seems like I may have to choose between the RP guild I've been apart of for several years, and my raid. I'm not really fond of giving up either, as both are a large part of what keep me playing, and I know for certain that only have one will quickly leave me bored and/or burned out.
It's a really unfortunate situation to be in, and feels like a kick in the teeth to be honest...
Eventually I'll give into temptation and resub to try out the Worgen, but not at release. The game just has very little to offer me at this point. Yeah, I didn't do much of the raid content, and half the gear on my main is still blues, but there's no incentive to slog through countless instances over and over and over again to get better gear just so I can repeat the process ad nauseum.
Add to that the fact my account was hacked 6 months after I quit (still my fault though, right Blizz?) and not all of my stuff was returned, and there's no reason to resub except to catch up with old friends. $15/mo. for a glorified chat program isn't what I'd call a good investment.
Stick a new shiney sticker on it, it's still the same old game with the same old people. They need to make a new engine, new animations, new textures, new sounds, new game mechanics... AKA make a whole new game. This method is just another grab at a fistful of customer dollars. If people love WoW so much why aren't they pushing Blizzard for WoW2 instead of letting them sell them overpriced bandaids. It's not like they don't have the money for developement. People are content to run on Blizzards hamster wheel for another 5 years.

for the last poster!no! they made ton of change ,saw it in hd and its good looking!the trouble is :from the preliminary look i got to view ,it look like they distanced themselves even further from vanilla wow then they had done in the past(i never even thot that could be possible!)
ill be very happy if im wrong and they do include the fun stuff player have been demanding.i wont mention them again they ve been listed long and wide trough the various post here and all over the web.but the change they made i view so far didnt answer the main stuff player were demanding and graphic has never been the first on that long list .
but they corrected the graphic to be everywhere on par with wotlk .(big achievement by the way).so now you ll be able to stare at it .but will you have the fun you had in vanilla?what i have seen so far doesnt bod well for that subject!
Despite having multiple max level characters with maxed professions, I will never resub to Wow until their endgame has a soloable alternative that can ultimately result in similar to raid rewards.
Although I would be tempted to play just to see the old lands revamped, inherently its the same game that I left (at its core) and I'm done with quest based progression leveling and classes.
However, if they'd make alternate rules servers with FFA PVP on them then I might reconsider, because then it might be a real challenge once again.

Well Blizzard is supposed to be making a brand new mmo with a brand new ip *cough* and I hope it does not use the WoW engine because if it does then be prepared for another copy/paste mmo job.
They would literally need to send a prostitute to my house to convince me to resub. After months of on and off, I finally quit for good and haven't played WoW in more than two years.
I must admit theres part of me thats tempted but then I remember that the WoW I enjoyed playing simply does'nt exist anymore . Too much that made the game great changed chasing the kiddie subscriptions .
Maybe if Blizzard introduced alternative servers .
Cataclysm will be much loved by the current WoW fans but I think it will disapoint those still hanging in there hoping it will bring back some semblance of what the game used to be .
The biggest problem is not that Cataclysm wont be half decent but Blizzard are gaining such a reputataion now for lacking integrity in regards to respecting its subscribers that not only Cataclysm but any other mmo they produce in the future will have a big question mark hanging over it for many players .
The funny thing is they had'nt made all these changes aimed at thier percieved audiance I think they would now have had subscribers in excess of 11.5 million . Also the RMT is causing a lot of alarm as well . They seam hell bent on damaging long term profit for short term gain.
Personally I left WoW due to loneliness, never did have friends in this game, probably never will due to how stubborn the biggest majority of players are. =(
I can certainly sympathise with you there.
Did you find a better game, or are you not playing any MMOs now?
Yeah, I decided to try out Aion again, I know there's not as many playing this but gameplay wise it's actually really good and hopefully more chance of meeting good people, I've not encounted any bad players yet so fingers crossed.
I voted no for many of the reasons mentioned. I just do not see Blizzard ever changing the direction of the game toward what Vanilla WoW was, more of less. I do very much like the revamp of Azeroth and believe that it should have been done as their first expansion. The old endgame dungeons and raids were awesome.
At the same time, between that douche Kalgan and Ghostcrawler, I do not see much potential, just more simplified gameplay + crappier PvP. So a part of me is curious, as the new Azeroth is an idea I have always thought was great but the other part of me simply knows better.
Other than that, I sold my account a while ago and have no interest in purchasing the game + 3 expansions. Not anywhere worth it. I would pay $25 tops + a sub fee.
My answer was no easily because the community itself has only gotten worse over time and Blizzard trying to draw back in some of the bad seeds that started it all won't improve matters no matter the eye-candy.
WoW just dont feel like an MMO anymore. I'm in a small guild 10-12man and these are really the only guys I interact with, the social part of WoW is almost all gone. Crossrealming dungeons, instazone into dungeons, all crafting can now go directly onto AH... all of this and more takes away the little interacting there was.
Whenever I'm in dalaran I see lots of ppl sure but nobody talking, everyone's just waiting to zone into the next dungeon/summon to raid. Sure I could PUG raids I guess, and look for crafters in trade but its more and more becoming a waste of time. Besides I have no wish to wipe over and over with randoms just to get to know the one or two guys who dont scream "wtf fail" and caps all over etc.
Anyways, expansion is looking really good eye candy wise. But I already quit before BC, came back and kinda regretted it. Quit again and came back to Wotlk with some buds and regretted it even more.
Two expansion from now ppl will log on every wednesday, get mail with random gear and log out repeat ad nauseum.
edit: I'm not a roleplayer and I guess I could just go out and FIND interacting couldnt I. But I really enjoyed being in a 50-60man guild working hard for achievements which created some kinda bond between people and a real feeling of accomplishment. Reading these forums I'm thinking I'm not the only one.

Nope, sick of the all the douchebags to sum it up.
whatever....
I don't know, I might give it a try when cata comes out. I'm getting out mmo's a bid.
The little spare time I have, I spend on playing aoe2 and css online with a few friends.
I tried ROM and DDO, but meh... I don't get the 'mmo' feel in those. So, if cata comes, and I got more time to play, then yes, I will be there again
-------------------------------------------------------------------
waiting for ... nothing..
I'll try it, like everything else, but will I resub for more than 2 months? Doubt it, my epic times and feelings are long time gone.

Many will be curious. Case in being, curiousity will not kill the CAT. People will try it out all the way to 85 whether they deny it or not.

yep on one side i feel the same, but a while back ;wisper began to trickle about the possibility of blizzard correcting their aim
so that wow would please both the old vanilla style player content that made wow big in the first place and the new casual player content
if this was to happen!im not sure the actual server total number capacity would be enough even with all the server they added
not that long ago we were almost at server capacity and core player werent and havent been in wow for a long time!
(pre-bc in fact)
but what i saw isnt what will bring me to wow ,we ll see what they announce in the futur!
