CCP Games has announced that EVE Online experienced an extended downtime today as the team worked to address database issues that have resulted in some players losing items. Players that may have been affected by the database issues are those that were logged into the game roughly 75 minutes before CCP took the cluster down for maintenance.
However, players who were not logged on but had outstanding buy orders or contracts may have been affected by those who were logged on and acted on them.
If you suspect you have lost items due to the database issues, CCP Games encourages you to file a petition with a list of the items lost. According to the announcement, CCP states these items are permanently lost but they have every intention to work with players affected in order to properly reimburse them.
Details on today's issues below:
Shortly after Tranquility started up after downtime on 7 May 2010, we noticed that players were having issues with items disappearing while doing market transactions, while unstacking items and during other "item-related" actions.
We identified the cause as an error in the running of a script which takes old itemIDs (each item has a unique ID number) from trashed items and reassigns them to new ones. Since that failed, newly created items were unable to receive itemIDs and this caused issues across several inventory-based systems.
In total, up to 114,000 itemIDs were potentially affected during the timeframe (11:28-12:43 GMT), which is 0.0071% of the total items.

Bah, I had a looooot of orders on the market.
I hope I don't have to mess around getting the items back!

I hope so too! Keep us posted!
That's what you get when you recycle *facepalm*.
Thankfully mine seem to still be there - a bunch of stuff sold although I don't know if that was during the ~75minutes - so maybe it just disappeared, I'll have to take a look.
Hope everyone else got off as lightly as I have!

Yeah, you should definitely double check to be sure.
um yhea i bought a gen freight containor this morning to have 1 dominix, 2 catalist, 1 myrmidon, 1 hurricane, 1 vexor, 1 hulk, 1 nemisis, a bunch of ship mods and bpo's and some imps i was going to have shipped down to null sec and when i looged in this afternoon the containor was gone with all the items in it.
Yea I hope this doesn't affect me or my corp. I had 50 ish contracts on the market and didn't quite make it to dock before shutdown. Although a bunch were delivered to me already.
This isn't the first time recently either.
Before I made those contracts I had to wait about a half a week because all of my corporate assets that were deliveries were unstable (There one minute and not the next, or shouldn't have been there because they were in a contract that sometimes was even completed.). It affected another player I know personally, but to a much smaller extent. It seemed to be a temporary database thing.
I was about to petition CCP about it when it was fixed. I would have done it sooner but RL things got in the way.
yeah 4 expensive skillbooks I bought dissapeared to me
There is no knowledge that is no power.
It is only stuff...just bits in a computer somewhere, all of it replaceable.
Lucky for me I decided to stay off eve for most of the day yesterday.
I've learnt my lesson. if Eves server is getting a little wonky you cease all activities and go play Xbox lol.
Playing: Rift, LotRO
Waiting on: GW2, BP
meh, I lost mission specific item from a story mission, it wasn't there when I arrived at pick-up point
But I ain't gonna petition for some 20 million isk, not worth the trouble
Lost a sacrilege in a buy order, 100mil. Filed a petition we'll see how long it takes.
