I actually just stumbled onto this game. So far I am having a lot of fun with it, only been playing a few days and want to spread the word and as far as I know it has only been in Open Beta for a little over a month.
It is pretty much a clone of Eve online. Now I have only played Eve for the 14 day trial and had fun, and liked the premise, but was turned off for different reasons. For those of you who have tried Eve, Outer-Galaxies follows the same game play.
If you haven't played Eve, or want more elaboration, here is the basic game play. You start with a basic ship, able to fight and mine. Your goal is to gather resources, ore and such, to "craft" better weapons and ships so you can travel to the higher end zones. Right from the start you can go out and hunt down NPC's (aliens) that drop money, random items, and blueprints (the patters for ships and weapons), or just start to mine and sell what you get in the market. Also as you kill enemies you gain "expierence" that helps you rank (level) up. So far the ranks mean nothing, it's a beta game ya know :P
I would deffinatly recommend this game as something do play in spare time or even as a serious player, it has the depth and long term player growth to do so. The only thing I had against the game at the start is the lack of info. The only button on the site, nice site though, is to play the game. So I am including a link the the Wikia page that has a beginner guide and FAQ which will help a ton

Nice slick presentation it has, but boy does it throw you in at the deep end.
"Here's the game! Figure it out for yourself!"
Video tutorials and wiki are must watch / read, but it doesn't prompt you towards either of them.
