My Review

Hellow everone, I purchased eq2 about a week ago and im here to give my review.

10/10 Graphics - Amazing, Not only are they good, there are alot of options to choose from

8/10 Sound - Great sound, supports 5.1 surround , but it sounds like any other mmorpg to me.

9/10 Gameplay/Fun factor - To me, the gameplay is amazing.  Endless amount of quests and mobs.  Maney types of armor/weapons to choose from.  If you want to sell a certian item, some merchants will give a low price, some will give a high price. Different merchants will act differently, speak differently, and look differently.  And also, merchants will sell you different armor/weapons depending on which merchant you choose. (prices are different too).  The combat is also fun.  Very fast paced i would say.  Raid parties and groups amount to endless hours of fun.  But you really cant feel it until you try it for yourself.  Last but not least, crafting.  Crafting in my opinion is to amazing.  Its not hard, just buy your items from a wholesaler and start the craft.  Maney artisian classes to choose from. And yes, there is gathering, i havent looked into it much, but from what i seen you gather/mine alot of different minerals/items.

10/10 Presentation - Ok now this got my attention when i first jumped into eq2.  The game is very "user friendly" with a help topic search.  And the trianing is very easy, it tells you everything you need to know. And when it puts you on the island (Refuge), you know exactly what to do.

Sorry if i missed any aspect, or misspelled

You forget the most important feature:

    - You feel like you are working for a Japanese company with Japan-minded culture, but toward a game inside a hobby.

It might be bringing a ''earned'' feeling, but it requiring a LOT of work in a hobby rather then requiring FUN!  image

But yes, EQ2 is overall, a nice game, as long as you love you guild and dont mind losing individuality.  In EQ2, they put the ''high end'' design faster into the game, so a level 15 have to be guild centered and experience it right away, for the better and the worst.  Enforcing was always a mistake.

Sorry to disappoint you Anofayle but this is EQ2 forums not FFXI, Lineage 2. EQ2 actually has nearly the full majority people living in the US. And secondly do you really think we would be playing this game if we thought it was "work." I think it's FUN lvling, questing, crafting in EQ2. That's why I play it. Wouldn't play it if I thought it was tedious or "work" as you put it.

How in the hell am I attacking her choice of games as well as her nationality. She stated the games like a Japanese company? I think it is she that is attacking Sony and their racial background. And how am I attacking her choice of game?! Nowhere in her post states what game or kind of game she plays! Get a grip man. Is this some sort of defending another fanboi?

Im no WoW fanboy, however I gotta question some of the points is this review.

For starters you say crafting is amazing then later state you havent looked at it much. Apparently so because then you'd know resources are limited and therefore camped early on. You'd also know that there are currently ZERO level 20+ resources in the game. At this point, crafting is broken. Any level 20+ combat type is going to have to rely solely on Looting to arm and protect themselves.

Combat is not fast paced in my opinion unless grouped. Solo play is very slow and painful to watch. I ended up spamming attacks and getting a drink half the time waiting for it to be over.

Armor is different lol, what game are you playing. Every single Mage I saw wore the same cloth armor. Every rogue I saw had the same leather armor, etc. If anything, there's not nearly enough diversity in armor which leads to the next problem why...crafting is broken

Sound is the one issue even positive reviews from game mags have pointed at as really bad, annoying is the most described word.

Gameplay, well I guess this is more of personal tastes. For me, it was boring and tedious running around looking for (and hearing 500+ shouts where is _ NPC) and usually the reward was something pathetic like 45c. Its almost as if the devs from SWG moved over to EQ2 and said "now to piss off players, make the rewards all really dumb for no apparent reason."

The worst part though has gotta be the total lack of diversity in combat professions. Again, EQ2 was supposed to improve upon previous mmorpg. Lets take a look, CoH and games like it where two defenders can be so completely different because they get to choose their own powers, secondary powers, extra power sets, etc. Not the case in EQ2 where my power is chosen for me. no choice between a stealth attack and some sorta traps. Cant be different if all is chosen for ya. In essence, if you see one Rogue, you've seen them all. Add to that the lack of diverse Character creation and you have almost ZERO difference in players.

This game was supposed to be great, instead it turned out to be a bit below average. Things that Im sure we all agree to be lesser quality... Character creation, sound, chat interface, and exploration (way to much zoning). This game was supposed to IMPROVE upon previous mmorpg designs..all I see is less improvements in 50% of mmorpg basic design.

I have to agree with the above posters review.  What I felt for the first hour of gameplay is what the first poster explained but what I felt after a few days is the above.  This game is executed well its just below par, and I think i'd rather play FF XI for the diverse classes and party roles than EQ2.  I'm not ever going back to FF XI though so i'll just keep playin EQ2 for a little bit and wait for something better.  It seems i'm playing MMO's just waiting for the next best thing alot lately...

**sniff** **sniff** Smells like a WoW fanboy to me

You obiously havent got past lvl 10.  Quest rewards are 45c?  Yeah most of the time, and most of the time they will give you a item of choice to either use or sell, the items vary in value.  Combat slow and boring?  I just have to disagree with you, even solo it is fun.

Eh? You complain about professions? There are plenty to choose from, and 2 more classes at lvl 20.  Not only that, plenty of artisian classes as well.  And i have NEVER seen any charater creation as in depth as eq2, none.

I have played, FFXI, DAOC, horizons, AC1, AC2, EQ, AO, EVE, and RoE.  No game has kept a hook on me like eq2

Thats comming from a person who never got past lvl 10?  Please, explain how you know this.

The only thing I will disagree with the above poster on is his/her statement about EQII's character creation being good.  It's the only major complaint I have with the game.  Character creation rather stinks...Of course I come from playing City of Heroes.  Now THAT was great character creation.

  • Ripp57Ripp57 Member Posts: 2

eq2 is great. You can adjust cheeks, chin, ears, nose, etc and a load of hairstyles and the result is a unique face. As for the classes...There are 4 starting classes and each class leads to like 9 classes each. And as for that part about the quest....it wouldn't be fun to run 20 feet away from the guy and tell his friend that he hates him and run back and get 30 silver, omg that ssoooo rocks, forreal man zer0 is right i love the idea of choosing between like 7 unique items that have like +4 str +2 agil +1 whatever and if i don't like any of the items i could always sell the most expensive looking one and get like 4 silver...
I would like to add that i find getting a load of coin from something i found on one little begginer monster lame. Look at Ryl, i found some of that well i forget the name but i found some stuff you use for your weapons and made like 30k.

Mabey if you spent some time in the creation you would find depth.  I mean you can move/adjust, cheelbones/lips/jaw/ears/eyebrows/eyes/body.  Give your character highlights and hair of maney different colors.  Different facial expressions, different skin color.  I just dont see whats lacking

And I agree w/ this poster 100 percent.   I got that character creation CD prior to launch.   A majority of the "adjustments" you make on your character are small and unnoticable.   I was extremely disapointed.

I have seen the Arctic Circle... And it is round.

Ok, i know alota people are dissapointed over the character creation, but thats not what makes a good mmorpg.  Just a aspect.

    Still no flames, damn.

Admins should really just ban them from this forum, but as usual they don't care. This forum have "somewhat" turned into L2 forum in it's earlier days. Thou this time it's wowcrybabies who have flooded the forum.

I've had the game for about two weeks and I'm having an awesome time. Alot of the complaints I here about the game I have'nt seen yet. And I'll admit, I was a huge blizzard/WoW fan awhile ago. If you don't belive find some of my older posts. I picked up EQ2 and so far it's yet to dissapoint.

The community had been cool thus far. Just about everyone I've grouped with have been mature and have actually had a sense of humor. As far as the graphics go, I have a terrible system and the game still looks sweet. GeForce FX 5200, 512mb ram, and the game still looks cool.

I love my race and class so far. I think the custimization has worked out really well. I've yet to see a toon that looks like me. All in all the game is just fun IMO. If you don't like it I'd say "play another game" It's really that simple.

Wow man you really do not like EQ and have a ton of time on your hands. Why not go to some other games discussion then? I agree with the review Its just a ton of fun to play in every way thats called our OPINION image

I have not played the game. I hope that I will not buy it because I do not need another kind of grind in my life.

I was addicted to Daoc from release until I maxed out my character, and I have never been obsessed with another game. Although I tried Lineage 2 and bought adena and used bots for a while.

Bought adena and used bots. Errr, no offense, but EQ2 doesn't want you.

To the original poster: Great review. I agree on just about everything. Having a blast and I'll add my review later.

i concede...EQ2 definatly doesn't want you. something is wrong with someone if they pay money for a game then pay twice as much REAL money to get some FAKE money, then let the game play itself...image
