Vanguard is still alive and kicking. I feel like it has greatly improved over the last couple of years. Currently there has been an incredibly large influx of players, both from MMORPG.com and from various other sources.
In the past week, due to the article that had made the front page of MMORPG.com, people decided they really wanted to give the game another shot. Initially people were worried about the population, but by not playing the game when you want to play it, you are contributing to the problem.
However, that being said, in the past week we have seen an even large amount of MMORPG.com people return to the lands of Telon. A guild was created by our leader, Vikin, called "After Hours", he expected no more then 15-20 people to show up, and in just this week we've had over 100 people join and we have several people trialing who are waiting to join. Now, let me emphasize this by explaining that all 100+ people in this guild, are subbed. We have very few alts in the guild, at most 10-15. So I think we are doing incredibly well.
Do I expect to see Vanguard disappear off the face of the earth anytime soon? No I don't. It's a great game, and SOE knows it, thats why they don't put their money there, because they knew early on that it could kill EQ2 (their flagship MMO).
If you are at all interested in giving Vanguard another shot, nows the time man, it's going good.
After Hours is located on the Seradon server, and you're welcome to message Vikin/Splinki/Cyrsi/Aimen/Sovrath to get an invite to the guild. Otherwise if you have yet to sub its /join mmorpg to get into our chat channel.
Many in the Covenant of the Phoenix have always found Vanguard to be an exceptionally GOOD MMO that never quite boomed due to a poor launch. Personally I believe Vanguard had great PvE and crafting, but my favorite was the Diplomacy system.
Originally on Sartok, the Covenant of the Phoenix has recently decided to do a re-start of our Vangaurd chapter on Seradon. Though we enjoy PvP, we have come to find that Sartok has too low of a population for our liking.
From all reports, Seradon is still thriving well, and I see Vanguard continuing to truck on forward... large population or no
You can also view the games we are involved in, and plan to be involved with in the future.
Every day I get closer to resubbing to Vanguard, but my recent re-activation of my LotRO account is staying my hand. However, once the Vanguard chapter has been brought up, I will more than likely activate that game as well and jump into Vanguard. My evenings and weekends have free'd up considerably for the next few months.

Don't get me wrong. I loved the crafting and diplomacy system, and the classes were fun too. But playing solo 99.99% of the time wasn't that great. Lack of people causes more lack of people <.<. So I would not prefer to pay 14.99 a month for something that I might not enjoy playing solo.
SOE is killing it,they are so desperate to keep EQ2 alive and cant accept that Vanguard has more potential to be a succesful mmorpg were people will enjoy a game. SOE wasnt the original owners of Vanguard, they bought it of Sigil that ahd no money to develop it further.
With the advent of new technology...Vanguard is no longer dying. It has gotten lipo-suction and a blood transfusion. There is a tummy tuck and an Ass lift in the near future....so rest assured...Demi Moore and Vanguard are gonna be just fine.
It's better to lurk in forums and be thought a fool...than to endlessly "Quote" and remove all doubts.

SOE saved it. Everyone hates SOE (so do I) but what would've happened if SOE hadn't bought it?
From what I've seen last few days there are ALOT resubbers or new players that loves the game. Vanguard is not going anywhere, SOEs station pass would be more worthless without it and there is pretty much core players in Vanguard.
You also find groups for the dungeons if you are in good guild or form the groups yourself.
I've just jumped back in for nothing better to do, and I'm enjoying it. always did really. yeah would be fantastic if there was a whole range of people at different levels, however soloing is achievable because of the amount of content.
Its the only MMO game I have played in the last 5 years that didn't have kids going on about 'my momma' and chuck norris. i think this is where all the 30+ players go to do what we like to do in a sandbox.
its never going to get populated again thats for sure.
like as was said above Sony are still thrashing EQII so they clearly dont care at all. no matter...
I think at the end of the day Vanguard will be always seen as a benchmark on scope and innovation. Both good andbad... in fact, both good and bad.

I have no idea what kind of numbers VG has, but for the 3 weeks I have been back playing the game, it feels like the population is growing. Who knows how long it will last, but over the last 17 nights, I have been able to find a group and run group dungeons every night.
This is something I could not accomplish last month in AoC because the only players are at the end game or running around for free in Tortage. Finding people to group with in VG is made easy since anyone can mentor down and earn EXP in lower level dungeons/content.

*Sigh*
EQ2 is already a successful MMORPG. Fanboism aside, why should SOE halt funding for an already successful and complete MMORPG for a game with the "potential" for success?

Update!!!!!!
Vanguard is not dying.....just taking some much needed vacation.....It will return in the fall.
That is all.

As someone else has already said its lingering. Soe has made it very clear that they will not support it. New content to come out is very slow and you will never see any advertising with the exception of devoted fans. If you are new to the game there is enough content to keep you busy for awhile but I wouldn't expect very much.
If they did a 9.99 for 3 months thing, I'd sure try it again. Otherwise, I just don't feel 14.99 is right.
you spend 14.99 for dinner or two, why not for 30days in awesome game?
I wish my wife and I could eat dinner somewhere (other than McDonalds) for that cheap. We had some seafood this weekend and it cost me nearly $50 although I live right near the Gulf.
Vanguard is a game that does not have a clear future. Is it a solid game? Definitely. Is the population out of whack and dying? Sort of.
Many people still say people are leaving the game left and right but the truth the ones who enjoy the game and have people to play with are resubbing each month. The people who can't stand playing alone are the ones leaving. Performance is not the major issue any more.
The game will never get the fame it deserves due to what happened in the past and the lack of developers that are assigned to the title. This game won't become like AoC and have a true revival. It is still a very good game with lots of depth and content though.
Word of mouth is the only way that Vanguard will become alive again, but there are so many naysayers out there and people with tainted experiences.
Wait! ....As it turns out....Vanguard is indeed dead......Vanguard family is being notified........
Updates to follow.
Has the Fat Lady Sung? I think NOT! lol! great humor btw!!
Seriously as mentioned above SOE Bought Sigil when funding was a zero at that company. They bought it to protect thier core product which was struggling at the time (Everquest 2). Now however there is a healthy EQ 2 population. Is VG Dead no but it will be comatose if people do not support it. Posting on these forums are great, but there is a small community that has been active on the station forums for almost 2 years ... we should thank them for keeping the game alive ...
I have been looking at other games including Rifts ... and well unless the combat system is like VG .. it reminds me a lot of EQ2 and WoW (not a clone but base racial premise) I do not believe in clones ...
I highly reccomend that if you are interested in VG to give it a try you get a free 14 day trial (i did that and ended up resubbing).

What was the middle question...Wanda?

The story is that there are only four developers currently working on the game.
Dying? Or dead?
I conside "dead" as in cancelled, no longer operational. Dying is more like its headed that way.
World of Warcraft is the original creation of God. Real Life is in fact a WoW clone.
I consider it long dead, but still haunting us because it cannot find the light.
EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

Vanguard is more like "lingering". It's never going to get any notable attention.
