Has it been stated how professions will work in regards to individuals of the same profession? Like if 3 elementalists are in a group and are the same level, will they all have the same skill pool available for their skillbar? Is there any hint that professions will be able to specialize(like water focus), or do you think the idea is that the main difference between characters will be distinct profession choice, and personal preference in skill choice?

Arenanet has stated that Elementalists will be able to "attune" to a certain element, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they can't use the other elements. I'm pretty sure that, like in the first one, it will be personal preference in the skills you choose. You really only get 3 skills to choose from, unless you count the elite and healing skill but there can't be too many of those, and those 3 skills are both proffession and racial skills. Also the first 5 skills are determined by your weapon, so really, I'm pretty sure, some weapons will be specialized for certain types of skills. So in all, it's really personal preference if you specialize. Now to anwser your other question, only if you have achieved (buying or earning idk) all the skills or are playing in structured pvp will you have the same pool of skills to choose from. So all in all I'm pretty sure that a lot of skillbars will be pretty unique.
Thanks for the reply, I think I'll go give GW another whirl to get the idea of how things are working there while I impatiently wait for GW2 hehe. I'm really impressed by their design philosophy on all aspects of the game this time around.

Customization of the first 5 skills is done through traits which alter their effects. There are also the other 5 skills you have command over for increased customization.
However weapon swapping and attunement in the case of the elementalist provides an even greater amount of versatility for the class with the same probably to a lesser degree to other classes e.g an elementalist can switch fromlong range fire skills, to short range fire skills through weapon swapping as well as changing to water earth or air skills through attuning with access to long range and short range for all attributes.
This gives a huge amount of adaptation for the elementalist as it can potentially use 45 skills inside battle although recharge, cast time and energy cost will probably limit an elementalist to two attributes every 10 mins
I was wondering since the Elementalist will be able to attune to the different elements (which is great concept and adds a great deal of versatility and character options) will the other classes(i know they havent been announced yet) have a similar mechanic of "stances" or whatever?
Has anyone seen any info on this arround?
Nothing from devs about that so who knows...we will probably know in few days when another class is to be revealed...
I think I actually spent way more time reading and theorycrafting about MMOs than playing them
