RoM is just WoW style but way less lagre and fun, only cost way more then any p2p.
At least at p2p you know how much you gonna spend & money will not influence your game, as well as for "free" are no services and no rights of users.
I played RoM from beta & till lvl 55 cap and spent like 750$ or more for my 3 chars, now my account got hacked as 100s of others (you can find very small thread on EU technical forum, very much down the page), and game is clear: nobody will help you to get your money / items back!!!!
Great f2p, you loose your money and waste your time. Just for info: at p2p (like WoW) or bought game (CD or key, like GW) you ALLWAYS get all back if got hacked.
Anyone belive then 100s of guys at same server tells his passwords to a mate? or dont have decent anti virus? to me it clear: RoM have hudge security problem, so this game looks more crap then it does only from crazy item shop.
I dont mind f2p games selling you costumes or even mounts but RoM thives sells you whole gear upgrades and you need or : spend tons of cash on real money shop, spend ages in game for token shop.
By the time you got your gear game made new laggy & buggy patch with better stuff and you start over!
If it fun you looking for: good luck with RoM.
if you think it silly & shame: never even start RoM.
"I played RoM from beta & till lvl 55 cap and spent like 750$ or more for my 3 chars" vs. " RoM thives sells you whole gear upgrades and you need"
Nobody forced you to spend over $750. for only 3 characters. Nobody forced you to play from beta to the Level 55 cap. That's all you and the choices you made. Presumably, you had fun during that time and felt the money spent was worth it when you spent it, else you wouldn't have spent it. As such, you got your money's worth.
Ultimately, what it really seems like is that you're upset your account got hacked and you don't get your "investment"back and are now lashing out at the game it's revenue model. It sucks that your account got hacked, but up until then it looks like you enjoyed the game just fine...

My account wasn't hacked. I haven's spent actually that much as 750$ on it. And after two years with breaks I finally decided to say good bye to it. What kept me in was pretty much stupidity, yeah, shame on me. I was stupid to think that the company will eventually fullfill atleast one of their promises.
I was in RoM since closed beta. Just a few facts what we were promised back then:
Quality is the most important thing
Simply no comments on this as RoM after two years still has bugs that are there since initial release. Crashes a few times per day are something normal. More than that crowded areas can cause you to crash even each few minutes even on hardware not older than 2 years and on the lowest possible gfx settings in some cases.
Customer support is important for the company
Another thing that they lied about those 2 years ago. After two years even newsletter doesn't work properly as some ppl are not receiving it even if subscribed. Frogster blames for that everyone else but not themselves. As always btw. Pretty much each time something wrong happens like you pay for dias and you don't receive them Frogster blames everyone else for that including you. But suprisingly they are always clean. Even responce to a simple question takes ages... If they answer at all.
Frogster wants to bring new quality to f2p market
Seriously I don't really see how it's happening. Just to sum it all let me quote one of my friends that moves there a few months ago: "And we left Metin...". Ppl that moved there with him didn't decline. Seriously if you are comparing game with things like Metin it simply must be bad. Especially if it comes from the person that actually works in this industry (not just plays games).
Balance is everything
Yeah, and hatery towards scouts is baseless. Just a few visits to endgame arenas shows everything you need to know about class balance. Then balance between free and paying players is also something that is either limited or in most cases simply not existing.
Item shop not required
Another thing that they promised us was optional item shop. Meaning you can do anything in the game, just some stuff may take you a little bit longer to achieve. Is it that way now? In a way yes, it is BUT in the beginning (meaning chapter 1) the game didn't really required any more grinding from free players than from paying ones. Ofc you were weaker even significantly but you still could do the same stuff they were doing, Right now when you look at ppl at 60 or around it's clear that without item shop what you can do in gamefor free is to create character and level it up to max level. But from there pvp doesn't exist, pve content outside instances doesn't exist anymore unless you count laggy and buggy events in Dalanis. And endgame instances unfortunately require some touch of item shop but those are pretty much the only thing that can actually keep ppl playing right now as everything else is pretty much screwed up with no real hope of improvement.
Just to underline how the company cares about it all. No idea if it still is there but it was still a month ago. For already a few months there is a well known bug in game that hundreds of ppl are using repeatedly. Basically under some circumstances you can for one hour do as many daily quest per day as you can for free. Normally you can do 10 and after that you need to buy reset from item shop. Frogster knows about this bug since atleast summer and last time I checked (like a month ago) it was still there. So simply ask yourself if company that can't really take care of their own business is able to seriously treat players? Personally I doubt that.

I've never experienced any such issue and I've played on an almost 4 year old laptop on higher than the lowest settings.

Ppl that moved there with him didn't decline. Seriously if you are comparing game with things like Metin it simply must be bad. Especially if it comes from the person that actually works in this industry (not just plays games). RoM is widely regarded as the best, from scratch, F2P. It definitely has competition now that DDO, EQ2 and LoTRO have been converted to F2P, but RoM did change the F2P market, just like WoW brought MMOs to the masses.
Balance is everything
Yeah, and hatery towards scouts is baseless. Just a few visits to endgame arenas shows everything you need to know about class balance. Then balance between free and paying players is also something that is either limited or in most cases simply not existing. I truly can't speak to that, having never achieved a higher level.

While I can't speak to this directly, it seems to be a matter of opinion. I've seen posts arguing that purchases are required and posts arguing that purchases aren't required.

For already a few months there is a well known bug in game that hundreds of ppl are using repeatedly. Just to underline, you played the game for two years. You didn't have fun during those two years? If you played that long and had fun, then what is there to complain about? It's perfectly fine being disillusioned with a game, being tired of it, bored, etc.., but that doesn't necessarily make it a bad game. That being said, some of your concerns may indeed be valid. I certainly can't stand Frogster's customer service, for example and the item shop may indeed be required for maximum effectiveness in PvP and instances at max level (I don't know).

Fun itself stopped aroud chapter 2 which actually screwed up things even more. After that? Only cos some friends of mine stayed there. And that never was from my part treated as a longterm mmo for me. In those 2 years I also played other mmos. A few months of break to play WAR, then another 2 months for Aion finally Allods. That meant to me like up to one year of actually playing RoM itself excluding a few months in closed beta.
It's perfectly fine being disillusioned with a game, being tired of it, bored, etc.., but that doesn't necessarily make it a bad game.
Problem is not a boredom or anything like that. Actually if low levels and getting to nowhere with your character in the end is fine with you or you have kinda alot of money to spend on it (or alot of time to spend on grinding gold soyou can buy stats on ah) then if lack of game stability and pretty much bad lag in addition to lack of customer support is also fine with you then you may enjoy the game atleast for a while. But if you prefer quality over quantity then RoM can easily make you thinking twice next time you choose mmo to play.
That being said, some of your concerns may indeed be valid. I certainly can't stand Frogster's customer service, for example and the item shop may indeed be required for maximum effectiveness in PvP and instances at max level (I don't know).
Regarding item shop costs. It is true that some classes are more expensive or less expensive than others. The best examples that come to my mind are tanks and m/p or m/d on the other end. I had myself k/s level 60 and m/p level 57. What I can say just for myself from what I have experienced is that m/p was like two up to three times cheaper than my k/s (which is btw anyway "cheap" in comparison to other tanks). It's another problem of game's design. Compared to games such as WoW, Aion or WAR (which are btw the games that, as they said once, they are aiming for with the quality) it can be hardly called balanced.
