I also predict this thread will derail from a topic on games we wasted money on, into what games we are angry with and now, in hindsight, consider a waste of time, as someone above me has already been kind enough to demonstrate. Typical.
So let me get this straight. You're going to judge what someone can or can not consider a waste of their money in reference to games they purchased?
I'm not judging anything. If I were inclined to judge anything, it would be the definition of the word 'waste' which the OP has correct but others simply use as a soapbox to complain about something else. A true waste is something from which we get nothing in return - poop in the toilet or extra money spent when the game is sold cheaper somewhere else - not a game we played for a few years, had fun, met friends, purchased expansions, then later got angry because Blizzard some developer nerfed rogues their favorite class.
And I actually wasn't referring to you with "someone above me," you simply submitted yours before I did. I apologize if that felt personal.

EQ2 - some multipack deal on steam for $15 (played about 10mins of that crap)
GTA 4 - worse console port ever
my best buys of the last few years
Wotlk
Batman arkham
Company of Heros (1st expansion)
Mass effect 2
Left for deal 1 & 2
SC2 beta - ok not bought but it sure will be.
You must have a sucky computer or no idea how to play a real rpg if you put dragons age on worse purchase list,And Eq2 steam deal was a great deal and sure not a waste of m,oney.Only thing i can figure out is your computer must really suck which would make you not enjoy either of them.
$30 on Neverwinter Nights. I loved BG and BG2 and was hoping for something similar, but just couldn't get into NWN despite all the glowing reviews. With a total playtime of under 5 hours, it was a total waste.
Most other games I got at least my money's worth - even the really bad ones.

It would be $50 FFXI for XBox360. I didn't know it was an MMO when I bought it (that was a couple of years ago) and then I learned about the monthly fee. I just didn't want to pay $30 per month for my FFXI sub and Xbox360 sub. So in the end I never got to play FFXI.
I think mmorpg's saved my life as far as spending money on games. Before I got into them I would easily spend around £200 a month or so on whatever was out on x-box at the time. If I didn't have money I would trade stuff in, sell records, sell my girlfreind, swap the family cow etc so I could aford them. Nowadays I just spend £15 a month to what ever mmo I am subscribed to.......apart from Steam......Steam just makes things to easy. I try not to look at the special offers page. But it's so hard....they do such sweet deals sometimes.
guildwars was the only MMO that i would say i wasted money on. i played WoW for about 3 months and then quit. wasn't a bad game, just not enough low lvl players to quest with.
as far as non-MMO games go, probably like $50-$100 in the last year, i haven't been to careful with them lately. but i buy my games for $20 or less, so it's not a big loss.

Only $ spent that I feel is "wasted" is money spent on EQ2, Tabula Rasa, SWG, Earth and Beyond, WAR, FFXi, and Guild Wars.
All games that either are gone now, changed/bad enough they might as well be gone, or I never played past the free month.

I have never WASTED $$$ on games
Well...there was the time I bought B&W 2....ugh.
But besides that all my purchases have been carefully done to make sure it's something I Like before I grab it
This includes MMOs
