THE GAME

starfoxx31starfoxx31 Member UncommonPosts: 67

Okay, so i bet your wandering right now, what is "THE GAME" well, its simple. Im going to name all the characteristics of my dream MMO and you will name MMOs that are similar and meet at least two of the characteristics. The more games you can name the more points you will receive. The game can be in any stage ( Alpha, Beta, Released).

#1: Non-instanced world

#2: Player housing : Non-instanced and cusomizable

#3: Fantasy Theme

#4: Combat system simmilar to Darkfall or Mortal online

#5: Terraforming

#6: Players must rely on others: One character cant simply become a god (like runescape where everyone can do everything)

#7: Many ways to customize character appearence : Armor, wepons, hair, clothes, whatever it is, i want to look unique

More to come as i think of them!

Final Fantasy XIV. Also, what the hell is Terraforming?

Non-instanced – there are actually instances but there are so few you could miss this fact and you don’t zone into them with a loading screen, you just get a pop-up window saying you’re entering one.
Player Housing – I had a tent when I last logged.
Combat System – FPS like MO and DF, but less silly in that everyone is not jumping around like a bunny. Also similar in not being class-based.
Character Customization is great, no one looks the same really. Lots of different armors even if you are going for the same stats.
BUT not fantasy, no terraforming, you can be an effective jack-of-all trades,

    Ryzom
    Non-instanced world – Yep.
Fantasy Themed – basically, actually is a science-fantasy hybrid.
Combat System – similar in that is in not class-based.
BUT no player housing iirc, tab and click combat, character customization could be better.

    City of Heroes
Fantasy Themed – it is comic book, but has magic characters, science, tech, and mutants.
Players must rely on others – best PUG game around.
Character Customization – best in an MMO even your power animations.
BUT very instanced though they actually make the system useful instead of just a crutch for massive populations.

    XSYON

  • GTwanderGTwander Member UncommonPosts: 6,035

There is only Wurm and Xsyon, at least if you want every point you made filled. Lots of games just lack the terraforming part.

Vanguard is actually a pretty good game with just a few flaws. The biggest being that it's really just one huge grind. Coupled with the low population means you'll be grinding yourself silly, alone and bored.

Or don't play it like this.

This is a case of players being their own worst enemies. They disover the easiest way to set themselves on a treadmill, hop on he treadmill but hate it the whole time.

It's possible to play these games without grinding your mind out. Of course, if you are the type of person who just has to have best gear, top levels and fast then there is nothing to be done short of a paradigm shift.

However, one could just explore the world that Vanguard offers, crafted gear is just fine, and not worry about keeping up with the jones's

I wasn't talking about having the "best" but rather being able to explore the world. Try exploring the Vanguard world at level 1. Go ahead try it. See how far you get before you're one shot by just about everything around you.

If you want to explore and see everything that vanguard has to offer you're going to have to level up at least a little bit. And the leveling is what feels like an unending grind. Unfortunately you may have to do a lot of your leveling alone because of the low populations.
